We’re going to beat them this year!
Well, I’m not so sure but looks like Vegas is leaning in our direction.
So? Vegas had us beating them before kickoff last season too...
Yeah, I remember. Just trying to be optimistic. 8~)
Yes, you're right. Vegas lines aren't perfectly predictive of the future. Remind me [...] When was the last time you saw someone argue they are?
Just take this as a positive heuristic and be done with it. Vegas hadn't spent an offseason favoring Michigan in every regular season game since at least 2003. Until now. Whether that's because the team is stronger than it's been or because the conference environment is weaker, the heuristic is no less positive, and though it'd be foolish to glom on and predict a perfect season, it feels good to see that "10-2 or better" occupies this large swath of the team's probabilities.
I think it’s also due to the fact that Urban is gone. It is a big question mark now that Ryan day is in charge. Urban Meyer was without a doubt the 3rd best coach behind saban and swinney. That’s a huge loss for them
No doubt. The environment might have changed more this offseason than the team. The offense may be in a bull market, but the defense almost certainly can't be Top 5 nationally again.
Losing a hall of game coach is always tough to overcome. However, last year was a historically bad year for their Defense and it wasn’t due to a lack of athletes. With an entirely new defensive staff except for Larry Johnson, you have to expect a sharp improvement this season. Day ran the O and will likely being the same style, combined with a QB run threat although the passing game will almost have to drop off. Playing in November means the offense will likely have come together but also a higher chance of a dinged up QB with a huge drop-off if a backup is needed. IMO they have a definite edge but we all know what opinions are worth.
Think it was right around 3.5 points too...
Thank you for sharing your opinion with the group.
Danny DeVito as Martini. Loved that character and the movie.
If we get past Army watch out.
I fully expected this to be a Mineral King thread with no link, just “trust me!”
Underrated comment. +1.
What if Mineral King is a persona Jim Harbaugh made up?
You mean to say Shea isn't real?
After what happened last season I have zero expectations that we will win. Even if we’re 11-0 going into the game I will not believe we will win the game until I see it. Leave it all on the field and please no shit talking it’s pathetic. On that note this is the year to finally break through. Everything is there to take
Yep. I have become Detroit Lionized with Michigan vs OSU.
That’s a disgusting statement right there. Scares the crap outta me
Not trying to be a a*#hole here but "this is the year to finally break through" comment has run its course on this site. When the clock shows all zeros and UM has more points than the cooler poopers, thats when I will believe it. Other than that I agree with you.
If we finally channel enough bpone the football gods will smile on us. I get the sentiment, really I do.
It's hard to impartially look back over the last 15 or so, but if I'm being honest, there were the years (all of them) when I hoped we would pull it off, and tried to will that hope into reality, and there were the years when I thought just maybe we would do it. In that regard, over the last late uncomfortableness, it's only 2016 and 2018 where I really thought we *could*.
Best 3-5?
Whatever happens, the press had to be banned from asking any player if they guarantee a win. It’s a bs ploy to generate clicks and put someone on the spot.
How about don't say something stupid if you can't back it up? Harbaugh when he guaranteed the win wasn't baited, he did it on his own. Higdon flat out didn't need to say what he said. It would have been very easy to deflect around it and say "We're going to give them our best shot" (even though they clearly didn't).
I think OSU will have 2 losses going into The Game.
who? my best guess is Wiscy & Pedo State but those are both home games. so is MSU.
they're @ IU, @ NW and @ Nebraska and they can damn near sleepwalk through those games and win by 21 on talent alone.
i hope you’re right though
Don’t worry, my local YMCA team would beat them by two touchdowns.
Don’t sleep on Nebraska this year....they will be a much better football team than the last couple of years.
It would be bad for UM if they lost to PSU (they won’t) the week before UM. They aren’t dropping back to back games short of a QB injury. I think it’s likely that both teams come in with 1 loss.
Thanks for making me laugh.
Not a chance. 1 at the most. Meaning we MUST win to make it to Indy
I don't see who can beat OSU before the Michigan game. I expect OSU to come in undefeated. Michigan may have 1 or 2 losses coming into the game but I hope we can finally beat them at home. If we don't our next best chance would be in 2021 at home!
Revenge Tour II !
Better have a better game plan than last year then......62-39
once we figure out how to stop a spread passing offense with man-to-man coverage, i think we'll be set.
Sorry but the only way I believe we win that game again is me physically seeing it happen. The clock has to read 00:00 at the end of the 4th quarter and show that Michigan has at least one more point than OSU. Not getting fooled again. Until it happens, here is all I will be wondering about the game.
1) By how many TDs do we get crushed by? Or:
2) In the years that it’s close, how are we going to manage to blow it, shoot ourselves in the foot, and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory yet again?
I'd prefer 10:00 on the clock and we're up 49-0. I want a little bit of time to actually enjoy the game while I'm watching it for once.
I was completely defeated after last years game. I can’t do it anymore. I am taking my family to do something during the game this year. I am going to record it, and shut off my phone for 5 hours. Will check the score when I turn on my phone, and delete the recording if we lose, and watch happily if we won. I can’t waste a whole day anymore and angrily put up Christmas lights again all day after. My wife told me that game is not healthy for me anymore. I will believe it when I see it. Vegas does know what they are doing and this line will move a lot depending on health and record. I believe Michigan will be better this year than last but I also believe there schedule is not easy and army is no joke.
Totally agree. Not worth it anymore. I will be recording it and just enjoying my day.
I wish I had that much self control. The Game is unlike any other sporting experience in my eyes, good and bad. 365/yr Michigan fans get belittled due to lack winning in the rivalry and honestly what does the fan base have to show for it? Not much as of recent. It will turn around much like how Michigan vs MSU is turning the corner, but I’m in your boat, how many more years can a fan take the disappointment?
I understand the sentiment but man will that be tough to do in November. There will likely be a trip to Indy on the line as well as possible playoff implications. The pull to watch it will be strong.
I would never miss watching Michigan play OSU. I'm always rooting hard for Michigan. I thought we were going to win the 2016 game but a few mistakes let OSU right back in the game. Last year was close at half time then the team fell apart after Shea through the pick 6 in the third quarter. I thought we had a real chance in 2018, and was hoping the D would hold the lead but the could not stop OSU passing game in the 2nd half. Harbaugh really needs to win this game to push Michigan over the top, otherwise we may just end up being a perennial 8-4 or 9-3 type team.
I have actually taken this approach the last two years. I didn't get emotionally invested in the game to then get angry when the outcome wasn't the way I wanted it. I had no plays to review in my head and thought of shoulda/coulda/woulda. It was a really healthy way for me to keep my blood pressure low and just realize it is always just a game. Depending upon how this season goes, we will see if I take the same approach. Go Blue!
So I'm not the only one who storms out of the house in the 3rd quarter to put up the Christmas lights I've been procrastinating on...interesting lol
My wife has also told me several variations of how this isn't healthy and I need to get control of my Michigan football-induced anger. I won't believe this team can beat OSU until I witness it happen...even then it's fairly likely I'll think I'm hallucinating.
For the first time in a while we should have the advantage at QB but I’m not counting on Meyer retiring as a good thing. Day was the brains behind the offense that dropped 62 on us. Their defense will be better but if Fields goes down, they have no offense. I’m not one of those guys who wants them at full strength. As long as we win, I don’t care who does or doesn’t play.
Meyer did not retire, nor did Tressel.
and yes, I don’t want them at full strength either. Why would anyone? Who gives a damn if they talk shit if we win because if injuries? OSU benefitted from that several times in the past fifteen years. Only thing that people remember and care about is the winner.
Urban is still a member of the athletic department. I’m sure he’ll offer Day plenty of advice during the season.
Just like the great Isaiah Hole states, I cannot pick Michigan to win The Game until they actually win The Game.
Remember when Clemsoning was a thing. Hoping UM can kind of repeat that transformation to champions.
41-17 good guys!! Oh wait, this isn't the "Guess The Score, Win Something" thread? Damn.
Screw that! Deliver a beat down worse than what they gave us last season. It's only fair.
Michigan is favored right now due to the question marks around Day and Fields. First few games will be telling. Their talent and depth is off the charts but not at the QB position and how Day performs under pressure is the key.
