NFL Draft / Browns & Lions Super Bowl Open Thread, Part 2
Wonder if the Lions are looking at Uche tonight? I would be a fan.
Wouldn't mind that at all in the 3rd round. I believe Lions have 67 and 85 in the 3rd. If he is there at 67 I think that would be a good pickup, doubt he is there at 85.
Wow I totally forgot Jacob Eason existed
Damn. Guess I'm way more of a glass half full guy.
I don't usually give up on them until week 2.
I gave up on the 2020 Lions in 1995
Lions won’t win a Super Bowl in my lifetime.
I have about .... 35-45 years left based on my lifestyle.
But they won’t win in any of our lifetimes cuz we’re all gonna die or go back to the stone age cuz of COVID
WR's going off early...Tee Higgins, weren't we after him at one point? Lions on the clock; hold onto your butts.
LIedOwNS take a running back!
D'Andre Smith out of Georgia.
Ya got 3 out the 5 letters, so you're more right than wrong I guess.
I'd cry too if the Lions drafted me.
Lot of WRs drafted so far. We'll see if that is good for DPJ.
Well there you go, Lions take a RB. Not surprised one bit.
Should’ve drafted Swift’s dad to play d-line.
I wonder if he has any eligibility remaining.
Can they sign his dad to play MLB? Dude is JACKED!
Dad looked like a fuckin’ beast.
Interesting move; at least it wasn't Dobbins.
Position of need? Nah
Best available? Nah
Lions? Bingo!
Lions badly need a RB primarily because Kerryon is too injury prone.
Swift was the best RB in the class.
Love the pick in a vacuum, but they can't keep drafting to fix problems of their own making. That's why they keep spinning their wheels.
"Only 440 carries...… not much tread on those tires coming into the NFL"
Sounds like Mel doesn't understand why tires get changed.
These tires are bald.
I’ve only driven 1,000 miles though?
I would have taken Taylor, but very impressed with the Swift selection. Great pick.
Me too. Taylor is an exceptional talent. He’s just a tad faster than Swift as well. Swift was a great pick though. He was a top 10 pick on most boards. Well done by the Lions.
There's 40 fast, then football fast. Not calling Taylor slow, but Swift's one-cut is deadly and he EXPLODES out of his breaks. I like the pick.
Normally I would too but Taylor fumbles a lot for a prospect of his caliber.
I imagine that concerns a lot of teams. That one data point can lose you football games all by itself.
I don’t hate the pick but I don’t necessarily love it either. DL or OL is where the Lions needed to go.
They don’t need OL. Not at this point anyways.
Lions need playmakers badly.
This. One of Bob Quinn's flaws in drafts has been his tendency to try to get cute and avoid big name players like Swift. Martha Ford spoke to the media this offseason and basically said this is the year for Quinn and Patricia. If they don't make the playoffs they likely won't be back next year.
Seems like Bob heard Martha loud and clear and is going for obvious studs instead of guys he thinks are diamonds in the rough (Jahlani Tavai, Will Harris, Jarrad Davis, Teez Tabor, Kenny Golladay, Tracy Walker). He's playing it safe this year but in a big way. I like it.
Like you said the Lions desperately need playmakers and they've taken two studs with their first two picks. Now they definitely need to address the D-Line in round 3. Hopefully with both picks.

But how do I get street cred on the internet? Do you have street cred? How did you earn it?
...so many questions.
I would like this pick a lot better had they gotten the first round pick right. Take into account last years first round jaw dropper and my god these guys don't have a clue.
Okaduh was the right pick.
Even Simmons @#3 for detroit would have been a great pick as was Okudah both are probably 3 contract guys.
And Jonah Jackson will be a lineman in the league for 10+ years. I think Detroit has had a great draft. Very deep draft @ all positions.
So many Michigan highlights. They just unfortunately involve Michigan getting blocked, sacked, run past, or run over.
Can Uche just come off the board so we can finally see good highlights, please?
another RB. they use a high draft pick on a RB every otner year. i would have rather taken the best available at a more pressing position of need.
I like Swift the most out of the RB in this class. Will offer more out of the backfield than Taylor or Dobbins as well. Value is good as he was a 1st round talent to most draft boards.
Just thought we really could have used this pick to bolster the defensive line. The pass rush seems like it has actually gotten worse since last season with Kennard leaving and not signing any DE or edge rushers.
Where were people predicting DPJ would go?
3rd to 4th round I believe. 11 WRs drafted so far.
Thanks. I spent a minute looking it up. He was projected anywhere between 100-150th taken. If the WRs keep going off the board this fast, I'd be surprised if he went that late.
FWIW, ESPN just showed Kiper's top remaining 4 WRs available and DPJ wasn't on the list.
I read Kiper's take on him and it wasn't overly positive. It was basically, "Shea was good enough for DPJ to show out and Ronnie Bell showed him up."
The NFL combine scouting report was also lukewarm on DPJ.
Yet his SPARQ score was apparently in the 99th percentile of NFL athletes.
DPJ is a head scratcher to me. Good mind. Great athlete. I’m not sure why it didn’t all fall into place on the field.
He isn't a football player. He is an athlete that plays football.
Lamar Jackson gets another speed demon to put up video game numbers with in JK Dobbins
That thread title brought a good chuckle.
Van Jefferson drafted before DPJ. Who would've thought that 2 years ago?
Him and 11 others and counting. At this point, you cant blame it on Harbaugh or the system, these teams have obviously seen some things that are lacking. I know we all got tore up about misuse of our "NFL" wide receivers but Nico was the only one that I saw consistent effort from. Black was never the same after his injuries and DPJ was inconsistent.
Make that 13 total WRs taken now.
I don't know who's to blame, but I don't think Harbaugh and co. can completely escape it. With an athlete of DPJ's stature, aren't there more ways the staff could've gotten more out of him? With all due respect to Ronnie Bell who has been excellent 2yrs in, we're taking a ~1000 ranked guy and feeding him the ball, but we can't find ways to get it to the #1 WR in the country out of high school? Could DPJ just not cut it in the slot like Ronnie? Just feel like we could've done a better job getting the ball to a rare ELITE athlete that Michigan lands.
