In Beilein we trust and all, but I'm just not seeing it without the offense improving massively in the very near future. Right now I'm filing this in the same bin as the "What happens to Hoke if we win out" question from early October: technically it's possible, but not really.

FWIW Brian has written an official mgoblog stance on the topic. Only really old timers remember it and it isn't linked in the about bar anymore, but here it is:
There are innumerable websites on the internet for those need to see hawt chicks. It shouldn't get me in trouble in HR if I spend a few minutes checking for new Michigan news while my code compiles, but once bikini pics get involved it's a problem. Please grow up and stop it.

I'm sure the Raiders want to believe they are strongly in play for Harbaugh still and have told Glazer that. But it doesn't matter because It's Happening.

I'm sure it's possible Lochman was being a good soldier while fighting Brandon on all this stuff, but...
I doubt it.

Fun note: I went back to the article with Lochman's quotes so I could snarkily paraphrase some of them in honor of his fleeting four-year relationship, but the Denard quotes have disappeared down the memory hole. But it still talks about how smart the dance contest is.

Well, you seem kinda like a jerk, and he was in charge of finding 20 girls willing to date you, so by the end the pickings were probably kinda slim.
And given the way the last guy got treated for not being a Michigan Man and the ADs focus on getting any Michigan Man the next time, there aren't going to be many plausible candidates jumping at the chance to coach Michigan until you get to the Hokes of the world.

What is it about Wisconsin that makes their coaches want to leave for middle of the pack programs in other leagues? First Bielema, now Andersen.
|8 weeks 2 days ago||Why do they need to be a head||
Why do they need to be a head coach? If we limit our search to that, the pool of previous head coaches who would come to Michigan is extremely limited unless we want to try a MAC coach again.
I don't think we should try for Narduzzi because not only do I think he would turn us down, I think he would make a big deal about turning down Michigan to stay at Michigan St. to the delight of his fan base. But I think eliminating any coordinator right off the bat is short sighted.

At least they announced he'll be back so the coaches know what the (near) future will be while out on recruiting trips. What do our coaches say?

It's "free" and doesn't require a login if your ISP pays a per-subscriber fee for it. They're trying to make the internet like cable TV where people pay for a bunch of stuff they don't watch, and it's crap.

I'd bet a dollar the open scrimmage this fall was a "maybe we should do something nice for fans for once" thing mandated from on high. Too bad it took masses of unsold tickets for the AD to do it, and then any good will bought by the event was undone by all the blunders afterward.

Verizon FiOS is listed on the login page, so that's probably the reason you don't have to log in.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||Who is your ISP? ESPN3 isn't||
Who is your ISP? ESPN3 isn't free, it's "free" if your ISP pays a per-subscriber fee to ESPN (and then of course those fees get passed on to the subscribers). Those ISPs then get directly into ESPN3. Some cable companies also pay the fees, so if your ISP doesn't pay you can use your cable login to get access. DirecTV doesn't pay that, but IIRC Comast does.

While there was a certain amount of "getting it done" involved, no amount of "getting it done" would have made it happen if Meyer was still coaching at Florida. Who knows if Michigan could get it done right now if Meyer was available given the general chaos of the past few years, but it doesn't help that there isn't a multiple national championship winning coach available and looking for work.

The thing about EECS 100 is that they weren't trying to teach you C++. They were trying to teach you how a computer works, and the best way to do that is to start by programming the 1s and 0s (don't miss you, LC2) and then show how that evolved into C++.
|11 weeks 6 days ago||If you ever wanted to see||
If you ever wanted to see what it was like to have MSU take over Michigan Stadium, by all means bring Hoke back. They'll be the only people looking forward to that game, and chomping at the bit to kick us while we're down. At least we won't have to worry about being unable to give away tickets for that one.
|12 weeks 1 day ago||What about a power-based||
What about a power-based scheme makes you think the offense would have been any better? As I said up thread, we hadn't been running one the previous couple years under Carr - those last couple offenses were all zone-based schemes, and Carr had been recruiting Molk-type linemen more suited for zone blocking than man blocking. The line woul dhave been even more inexperienced in a power-based scheme than a zone-based scheme. Why do you think this would have improved anything?
|12 weeks 1 day ago||What offense did you think he||
What offense did you think he should run?
People with this complaint act like Michigan had been running a man-blocking scheme under center forever, when in fact Michgan had switched to a zone-based run scheme for the last two years under Carr. In 2007, damn near every game started with a zone stretch behind Jake Long because that was the base play of the offense. Switching to a man scheme and running isos would have been an even further departure from what we had been running under Carr. In fact, as far as the O-line was concerned, it was pretty much the exact same thing. Only real difference in the run game was that the quarterback was always in the shotgun and occasionally kep the ball to keep to keep the defense honest.
As far as the quarterbacks go, you act like no QB available could do what RR asked of him, but do you really think they would have been ok sitting in the pocket, surverying the field, reading coverages, and making accurate throws? Threet couldn't do this at ASU after he had a few more years experience. An old school pro-style offense relies even more on the QB than the spread, and the options available for that didn't look promising.
The problem for the offense that year was that the line was incredibly inexperienced and couldn't block anyone, and the quarterbacks were young and sub-par and couldn't overcome the line. They weren't going anywhere that year, especially if they switched to some half-ass pro-style that they hadn't even been running the previous couple years. The 'refused to adjust his offense" meme needs to die.

This is hindsight bias. At the time of his hire, he was most known for tanking at Iowa St., and I think that was his only head coaching experience at the D-IA level. Auburn fans were so unhappy with the hire they literally had fans show up to the airport to to boo him! Hindsight says it worked out ok, but at the time of the hire it was a stretch.

Well, none of the schools we traveled to in October were having breast cancer awareness day, so we couldn't do it on the road. And our only home game this month was UTLIII, and sales of uniformz obviously trumps breast cancer awareness. So November it is.

Some of one of those things - highly motivated - has to do with them being more intense. But the rest of that, and the other things - better prepared, competent gameplan - goes right back to better coaching.
|14 weeks 2 days ago||I think these tweets have||
I think these tweets have quite a bit of hindsight revisionism. Newspapers need to assign a narrative to the game, and MSU is obsessed with Michigan, so when MSU wins it was because of the obsession.
The real reason MSU has dominated this rivalry recently is because they've had better teams. MSU lived for this game before Dantonio was their coach, but they ususally lost anyway because Michigan was the better team. However, since Lloyd retired, MSU has usually had the better team over the whole season. And (suprise!) they usually ended up winning this game too. I think very little of the outcome Saturday will have to do with intensity of mid-week presser quotes and a lot more to do with which team has better coaching.
|14 weeks 3 days ago||You got tickets after it||
You got tickets after it changed to a donation based system. Prior to that, it was a list that you actual had to wait on until your turn until your turn came up after enough people died/stopped renewing their tickets. It was supposedly like 20 years long in the early '00s, and I remember signing up after graduating even though I was moving to the other side of the country just in case I was back in the area when my name finally came up - if I waited until I actually moved back to sign up, I might never get tickets.
But then Martin switched to the priority points based system, and he and especially Brandon jacked up prices and PSLs until they burned though any waiting list people who might pay more than exisiting customers, and now there is no wait as long as you have enough priority points. It was great for next quarter's revenue while things were going well, but it killed fan loyalty for times times like right now. Why renew tickets during bad seasons when you can just save your money and buy your way back on when things are going well? It's not like the athletic department will care about your loyalty if they think someone else might pay more once things are going well again.
