I did

trialing directv stream right now and pretty impressed honestly. Has 5.1 surround sound on a lot of content and picture quality looks better (although less 4k offerings). Also can do Picture in Picture on iPhone and iPad which youtube tv never allowed.  Will probably stick with this even though it’s a little more expensive

But most people aren’t likely to return is the point. Considering the people that cancelled have largely went ahead and signed up for an alternative streaming service. It’ll be reflected next month for sure, but you can just look at this thread and see a number of people who cancelled and have no interest in going back.

That was the last straw for me. Between the $15 increase for a bunch of crap channels I don’t watch, the dispute that took the app off the Roku, and this, I am trying Hulu plus live TV with the Disney+ and ESPN+ bundle for a while.

I did notice the basketball game on BTN was a little pixelated last night on Hulu, so we’ll see how this goes.

I bet they bled subs yesterday, right into Disney’s pockets.

That’s you. Plenty of people watch those other channels. Freeform and FX are hugely popular movie channels. ABC is hugely popular for local news sources and pretty much anyone with kids uses Disney channel.

You specifically only needing Disney for their sports isn't representative of everyone else. This impacted a lot of viewers outside of the sports world, and thinking they only exist because of ESPN is really ignorant of the reality here. ESPN brings in a lot of revenue but is also extremely expensive to operate.

ESPN isn't the cash cow it used to be for Disney, and there have been rumblings in recent years that Disney may jettison them since most of their value comes from carriage fees from cable packages (streaming fees are significantly lower right now) and those are dwindling.  Plus, all those fees they pay to sports leagues are pretty expensive and are only going up.

Looks like I'll be celebrating by watching that storied rivalry game...Old Dominion vs Tulsa tomorrow on The Worldwide Leader.

Nice to see them make a big, beautiful deal before any bowl games of consequence happen (considering the games are basically all on ABC/ESPN/ESPN2, save for ~4 games). Glad I decided not to lift a finger for a few more days...

  1. My daughter missed the biggest win in women’s Bball history so google could make an extra buck. Fuck everyone involved in this bullshit.
