The Video:

[After THE JUMP: Dooley arrives so we get off-topic.]

---------------------

1. Minnesota Preview: Offense

starts at the top

Do they have Darius Taylor or not? If so they run the ball. If not, they will try to run the ball. WR Daniel Jackson is a threat. What's up with Brevyn Spann-Ford?

2. Minnesota Preview: Defense

starts at 17:42

They're just guys up front, with some transfers who aren't cutting it at this level to replace better transfers out. Somehow though they held on to Tyler Nubin, who's a dude. Tricky coverages.

3. Jug History and NIL with Professor Greg Dooley

starts at 34:18

We start off with some of our favorite Jug stories but of course we also have the guy who teaches the biggest NIL class in the country so we also talk about the direction things are going with collectives, who are moving away from that term to being more like agents. We also get into the landscape once revenue-sharing comes into play, how realignment is basically all about lining things up for that, and how that might spell doom for a lot of non-revenue sports.

4. Nebraska After Review

starts at 56:33

One JJ keep is all it takes. Discussion on the offensive line vs a real opponent and a lot of twists. Defensive line is comprehensive. A little concerned about the secondary.

About the Featured Musician: KYLE MACK

image

This year we are partnering with The Blind Pig for bumper music, since that's where I've seen most of the bands I've been pushing anyways.

Detroit's own Kyle Mack (not to be confused with Detroit's own snowboarder Kyle Mack) will be performing at The Dojo at The Blind Pig in Ann Arbor on Thurs. Oct. 19th. The beats behind his lyrics are worth listening to on their own, but the vocals are awesome. There's a lot of Detroit style in there, but also a lot (maybe too much?) of Lin-Manuel Miranda, and also some very on-purpose MLK gospel (can't share explicit lyrics on the podcast but listen to "Still I Rise" if you're trying him out. The fusion feels really…I dunno…us.

Song choices:

Also because Across 110th Street will get our Youtubes taken now now, the opener and outro:

  • “The Employee is Not Afraid”—Bear vs. Shark
  • “Ruska Vodka”—Motorboat

THE USUAL LINKS:

Thanks Dooley, you gave me the idea!

What's up with the time stamps?  It's hilarious to imagine that it took 15 seconds each to review the Gophers' defense and the Nebraska game, though.

Excellent discussion, including with Greg. Love having this at noon.

What's the reason for always using the Ruska Vodka song as the outro? I do love me some Mötörboät, but I'm also familiar with a diddy of the same name from Goran Trivic in the original Croatian (yes, it is the same language as Serbian and Bosnian but don't mention that in the Balkans).

There is also a live version of it but YouTube won't let me embed it because it's "too sexy": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvdDXzFV7YM

Mötörboät are fans of MGoBlog and were happy to allow us the use of their song on Youtube, whitelisting us from the bots that go around trying to find copyrighted music and putting strikes on content creators without checking for fair use. When some company bought the company that bought the company that bought the company that claims to own the Michigan Replay song and added it to the trollers list, our youtube shows were getting their sound turned off, and I had to swap it out quickly. Mötörboät was responsive and so was Bear vs Shark (the opening song) so they got to be the music from then on.
