Date Title Body
No. This really has nothing…

No. This really has nothing to do with the current Title IX. The conduct occurred prior to August 2020, so the current version of Title IX technically doesn’t apply (although UM can set up a system that uses the current system for older cases).

UM didn’t go forward because the “main” respondent left (and ain’t never coming back) and the two students who stayed (but certainly could have violated the policy for taking pictures etc.) didn’t say anything that would lead to them being found responsible (if they said, “I don’t recall” or flat out deny it, UM faces a particularly uphill battle in a case with a complainant who can’t rebut their statements … because she’s dead).

You have my personal email address. You can find me if you want assistance working through this. But the process, though conveyed to the world in the coldest way possible (likely to drive the story AND/OR to spark change to the systems that exist), seems to be correct (or mostly correct) on all fronts.

You make an OUTSTANDING…

You make an OUTSTANDING argument in support of reparations! You should be the spokesperson for the cause. :)

You’re probably also annoyed…

You’re probably also annoyed that firefighters are allowed to pour water all over strangers’ homes while you can’t.

It must be hard to live life without putting things in context.

We keep talking about these…

We keep talking about these players like their primary goal is to get paid as much as possible next year. If she’s passionate about playing at the highest level, then no amount of money (except generational wealth) would make her stay. Staying in college probably feels like choosing to stay on the JV team in high school because someone offered you a relatively small amount of money to do that. NIL should be a non-factor most of the time when it comes to keeping our best or most competitive players.

100 yards against Hawaii to…

100 yards against Hawaii to get into the Heisman race … looking back in awe at 80 yards against Alabama … thanks for the early morning laugh. I needed it.

I don't have a horse in this…

I don't have a horse in this race, but that's just a guess (that you probably want to be true). You have no inside information on why he resigned. It's POSSIBLE you are right, but so is the possibility that he's been fielding offers from ESPN or TMZ or a new Michigan basketball site.

It's just so odd to me that people have started treating life like a soap opera. "Dude's 100% the father of his brother ... I just know it!" Good for you and your "definitive guess." But it's grounded in nothing but how you hope the world works. Unless you have some inside information. Then I'm all ears.

It's time to stop naming…

It's time to stop naming things after people. If the press conference goes according to plan, this is a massive fall from grace.

If there are three people on…

If there are three people on him, all the more reason to identify that and make a quick one touch pass to eliminate those three players. There is no reason to start a match, like he did yesterday, turning it over 6 straight times. He was just doing too much and not doing it well. Gio and Weston were experiencing similar treatment, but they stayed within themselves and played it one touch or demonstrated elite ball control. At the level we expect Pulisic to be, "There are a lot of people around," just doesn't cut it except when he's trying to shoot. Especially with the support he has. If only someone would create an all touches video for him from last night. It would be mostly ugly, especially early on, with a handful of brilliant moments. But he's a Chelsea contributor. The expectations are no longer about having a few high points in a CONCACAF match. He's already being outplayed by Gio and Weston, and they're mostly just taking what's being given to them.

And I agree on the spacing. It's horrible. We pass and watch or simply don't move as a team to create diamonds.

He's a national treasure…

He's a national treasure. The camo tuxedo jacket had me laughing.

I wish this was true, but…

I wish this was true, but Pulisic's touch has abandoned him the past 2-3 months. He literally failed to keep possession today until the 45th minute. If there's a stat tracking his passing by half, it would be grim first half. He was better second half, but that's when he had space to turn and run. Gio or McKennie are going to take the captaincy from him if he doesn't improve quickly. OUTSTANDING penalty kick though. World class. But in his current form, he'll rarely start for Chelsea next season.

What a major accomplishment!…

What a major accomplishment! Congratulations Coach!

I laughed at that joke…

I laughed at that joke minutes later, AFTER leaving the website. Well played.

The Loyola-Chicago shirt was…

The Loyola-Chicago shirt was ok, but THE Oral Roberts is hilarious!

Yeah, I assumed that was the…

Yeah, I assumed that was the case. Withholding information like this is the baseline. I'm saying it's the job of a good search firm/committee to find the disgruntled employee, speak to his last couple ADs, follow up on the random leads, or simply talk to your insider at LSU and ask that person to "blink twice if it's possibly a devastatingly bad idea for me (the AD or the search firm) to hold this grenade." And maybe all this was done. Either way, Athletics has always been a results oriented business, and the results here were poor.

It'll be interesting to see…

It'll be interesting to see how long F. King Alexander stays on at Oregon State.

If you hired a search firm…

If you hired a search firm that didn't find out that LSU's AD officially requested that Miles be fired for insubordination and for sitting alone in cars with female students, you've failed at overseeing the search process. No doubt about it.

Actually, I was wrong. He…

Actually, I was wrong. He can also be impeached by the state legislature. So a legislator would be a hypocrite if they didn't call for Cuomo's impeachment if a full investigation shows he was a predator.

(I REALLY wanted to make a …

(I REALLY wanted to make a "because of racism" joke, but internet humor just doesn't translate the same way a friendly, in-person conversation does . . . even if you say something ridiculous and then say it's just a joke). Anyway, it's not hypocritical YET. Les got a full investigation. Two actually if you include the separate review of the investigation. Cuomo hasn't gotten the first investigation yet. Once it's completed, and if the investigation confirms most or all of the current allegations (if not more), anyone supporting Cuomo is certainly a hypocrite. But as the other poster says, who is the AD/President in a situation involving a governor . . . the voter. So Cuomo as a D/R/I/Communist/Whatever is in a completely different situation until we create a GD ("Governors Director") for NYS or give the president the power to dismiss governors.

Not to stir the pot (I…

Not to stir the pot (I seriously don't want to), but a certain segment of the readers here certainly realize something that another segment hasn't picked up on. And that's that Les is also . . . racist. Or at least perpetuates racism. I doubt any black, asian, etc. women were "qualified" to work for him. In Louisiana no less. And those opportunities are an amazing thing for students/younger employees to put on their resumes (while also possibly being the cause for countless counseling sessions). Just one more point that will stick with me although it will never be the heart of this story.

That's like asking, "If I…

That's like asking, "If I get fired for misconduct, why would I ever be able to get another job in my industry?" She wasn't shot into the sun. She's just dealing with the punishment associated with a one-two combo of terrible decisions. Anyway, here's what I can think of quickly:

Some institutions accept essentially any student that applies to them (that's not a joke - it's a part of their mission in some cases).

Admissions offices are made up of thoughtful people, and one group of people may be more lenient, understanding, or forgiving than another. I know a person who did some OUT THERE stuff, but a respectable school saw the soft/golden core while other schools wouldn't touch that application with their bare hands. Groups of humans don't all act the same, go figure.

She may actually take actions between now and when she starts applying again that establish personal growth.

She may write a personal statement that addresses the situation proactively instead of getting caught and then defending herself.

Some school may not be good with the Googles and let her in not knowing her past. Wouldn't recommend she intentionally pursue that path.

She could get a recommendation letter from the people she hurt or from people who can speak to her true/current/baseline character.

Schools can view Tennessee as giving her the slap on the wrist she deserved. So she's done her time in the new school's mind even though the new school would have rescinded her offer if in the original situation Tennessee was in.

I could go on.

It's unlikely, but she could even get into Tennessee in the future (after a year of bettering herself/building a case that she isn't that person on the video, after going to another institution and then transferring there, or as a graduate student).

We frequently see stories of people with stains on their life resume that go on to be respected members of society. She wasn't canceled, she's just being forced to deal with a negative consequence of her actions. With the right steps, she'll be back on her feet.

You're quite literally…

You're quite literally changing the subject, but if I had ever directed pure hate toward someone at 14 solely because of their race and then shared it using my social media account (essentially glorifying my act), I would know I put my UM admission at risk. This person obviously knows it. And you know it. That's why you're making the "could you and I have been caught doing something outrageous too" argument, not the "Tennessee shouldn't care and can't take this action" argument. She can bounce back. It'll be painful, but she can do it. Just not at her school of choice. Lesson learned.

My new thing is to actually…

My new thing is to actually look up these "one dumb thing"/"cancel culture" situations people refer to. It's always so interesting. It looks like a student was admitted to Tennessee but her acceptance was withdrawn before she started. So you have a problem with a university withdrawing admission if a video surfaces of a student angrily using the N-word toward black people (from the safety of her car I grant you)? What about the fact that she then sent the video of that conduct to a friend? That was hateful conduct by her that was then intentionally distributed BY HER. You don't have to be afraid of the "woke SJW snowflake mafia" to make the incredibly reasonable call that she showed incredibly poor decision-making that disqualified her from stepping foot on campus as a student. What a strange example to use.

Pump fake. Spin. Dribble…

Pump fake. Spin. Dribble. FACIAL!!!!!

"about as good as can be…

"about as good as can be expected."

Even this statement is way understating how well things went. Other than losing Somerville, there was nothing even resembling a negative (it appears our OL coach was hated by everyone), and 3 quality DTs to close out wasn't expected. We have Harbaugh on the cheap, the new staff is younger and already showing results as recruiters, we finished top 10 in team recruiting rankings, and we're off to a great start in 2022 recruiting. Warde gets an A+ for how that turned out (so far . . . let's see how the assistants are at coaching).

And it's likely Iowa no…

And it's likely Iowa no longer has to cover Doyle's family's benefits based on his day or so of employment with the Jags. Urban did a great job of making things worse for everyone. Impressive.

The advice here ranges from…

The advice here ranges from thoughtful to dreadful. I'd say:

- You must let your daughter feel she has some control in this situation even if she's not always driving the bus. At a minimum, her concerns should be the primary ones, not the school's, or yours, or her mother's. ALWAYS keep the focus on the person who had the difficult experience. She has to live with this when it's "over" and she's alone with her life thoughts. [This is the area where your understandable rage could result in the most damage]

- Related point, you don't actually know what happened. Many times you get additional info as things go on. There could have been more extreme behavior, this could be the end of their dating relationship, etc. The key is to listen so you can actually provide the support she needs. This may be a dating violence issue, which you would initially address in a different way than a "stranger danger" situation.

- Unfortunately, sexual assault, sexual harassment, etc. are fairly common in K-12. What I would actually do in your case is reach out to a local rape crisis center (yes, even if this isn't rape) or counseling center to get advice on next steps. They're really caring people who have the process down and know where to direct you. They know the resources available to your daughter/family.

- The school has an obligation to address this, and they must have an assigned Title IX Coordinator leading this process. In K-12, it's usually a person with at least one other job. State law may dictate some of the finer points, but Title IX (the federal law) almost certainly applies here.

-The criminal justice system is unrelated. So you'll need to do a separate analysis. Think about the school like a/your church. If you buy something from them during a fundraiser, you can haggle with them and the hierarchy about getting the $200 easter basket you ordered but never got, or you could call the cops. Or you can do both. The three options have merit, but one may be better in a given situation. But it's never an either or, no matter what anyone tells you. Although actions by your school may impact law enforcement or the other way around.

If you have another concern, let me know. I'll check again at some point today. Btw, this does not constitute competent advice. Listen or not. I don't know the situation or facts, so you can certainly ignore all of the above. Maybe you should.

It's called the sports fan…

It's called the sports fan effect, just applied in a higher stakes area. It also applies when you love one group/person so much that the other becomes evil. Strange to think we can HATE anything coming out of Wisconsin, but we all do. :)

If Milton was performing on…

If Milton was performing on a high level Nico would likely have come back. I don't see Nico sitting out if Trevor Lawrence is our starting QB. I think the ceiling this year is serviceable. But I hope I'm wrong.

There's nothing you can know…

There's nothing you can know. It could be terrible (Harbaugh hid it) or heroic (Harbaugh literally stepped in and stopped what was happening) or something in the middle (Harbaugh was informed by the AD that he shouldn't talk to other universities or to the NFL about that player). Also, it's not even clear that Harbaugh knew. There are "good" reasons to lie about Harbaugh knowing.

It would be interesting if…

It would be interesting if we later find out that getting Covid had a small but relevant impact on player performance. Especially if Michigan or another school easily wins the NC and SEC defenses continue to perform like they did last weekend.

"He died at his home Sunday…

"He died at his home Sunday in Danville, California, family spokesman James Davis said in statement Monday. Morgan was suffering from a nerve condition, a form of polyneuropathy.

Morgan’s death marked the latest among major league greats this year: Whitey Ford, Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, Tom Seaver and Al Kaline."

YouTube TV just added NFL…

YouTube TV just added NFL Network at no additional cost so there's that too (if you follow the NFL at all).

You follow the team and…

You follow the team and conference closely. Just take a second and think how stupid that tweet is. The Michigan schools alone can't stop the conference from voting to go forward, Whitmer had no say on this topic (and is allowing sports to be played), and there are SEVERAL other schools in the conference that are strongly opposed to fielding a team. There's no reason to single out Michigan and MSU. So why are we having this mindless conversation? Votes. F*cking votes in November. This isn't about Michigan or MSU football. It's a sloppy attempt to anger Michigan voters in a state run by a Democrat. The tweet is so stupid and childish I wouldn't be surprised if it was actually Stephen A. Smith who posted it to start up a moronic sports debate.

I get your frustration,…

I get your frustration, disappointment, pain, etc, but you and the millions of people who share your gut feeling are as qualified to out-think Schlissel on this as you are to out-coach Harbaugh any given season. That doesn't mean everything will always work out perfectly (or even well) for us, but following wild ass guesses/gut feelings isn't leadership, it's desperation (or the job description of sports talk radio host). Let the people who have dedicated their lives to this do their job. If you don't like it, fine. Go be an SEC fan, or simply move onto anything else that makes your gut feel good. But if you think you've spent 1/100 the number of hours Schissel and his team of experts have put into working through this (and the interconnected issues), you're delusional. It sucks to have important things be 100% in the hands of someone other than yourself, but it's no coincidence that you and your millions of like-minded gut thinkers came to the brilliant conclusion that Schlissel should just give us our toys back. I'd rather listen to the people who are qualified to lead.

I can't tell if you're…

I can't tell if you're joking. Can you see how your title and that quote don't actually match up?

I don't have enough points…

I don't have enough points to post, but several Harvard graduate schools have announced they're going 100% online Fall semester. One school has announced they will be online during Spring as well.

It's actually not that…

It's actually not that strange. Individuals in smaller/underrepresented groups are quickly identified/ostracized if they report and action is taken, so they often don't report at all for fear of having literally no friends that they feel a deep bond with for the rest of their time at the university (not to mention the impact if their families have deep ties or that group will be relied upon for post-college opportunities). Twitter is a rather "ideal" setting to report. The report could be from ANY time the named person was on campus, the pool of people who could have submitted the report "feels" bigger (increasing the feeling of true anonymity), and people are bolstered by seeing other people's experiences (something they would never be able to do normally). Racial minorities, members of the LGBTQ community (especially T), members of the kink community, members of severely under-represented/far away nations, members of close knit clubs/groups, and others would find value in gravitating to that account.

Who is teaching, feeding,…

Who is teaching, feeding, etc. these college-aged kids (who are not all college-aged kids)? College isn't Burning Man with books.

We are officially the

We are officially the luckiest team in America today.

Our skill level looks very

Our skill level looks very good.  Our foot speed (and other fast twitch movements) are severly lacking though.  The defenders are in the right place until the Maryland players start running (by them).  Almost everything we do, except that 4 on 2 break is getting to the ball and playinig backward or kicking it long.  I might blame the cold weather for our speed, but that shouldn't be an issue for us.
