McCarthy Mega Camp - Get ready to Like JJ even more
Looks like JJ McCarthy put on a "Mega Camp" in his hometown of Chicago for 600+ kids to attend and brought along a fair number of his teammates so they could have the experience and benefit off of the NIL money from it. See the 247 article on it with plenty of quotes from teammates appreciating JJ for the opportunity and leadership

Thank you!
Both our #1 and #2 QBs are such great high character men. We're fortunate to have them in maize and blue.
I wouldn't need to know this anytime soon, but I wonder how much NIL $ he's getting? Other guys on the team? Other sports (Dickinson, etc.)? Non-revenue sports?
That does not answer his question as there are only 2 Michigan players on the list and #1 is Adrian Nunez
I posted it because it’s a searchable database and the closest we’ll get to useful information on the topic. I figured it could answer some general questions about NIL or provide some context for where M players stand. If you go to The Wolverine homepage you can see the M players summary: https://www.on3.com/teams/michigan-wolverines/. How reliable these numbers are is anyones guess, but it’s a starting point.
It's also just On3 guessing at this point.
It’s Nunez business?
Some observations from that list:
1. 3 of the top 4 players are not in college yet. Bronny James is number 1 and he isn't even a five star prospect.
2. You have to go all the way down to number 37 to get to the first Michigan player. Who is it? Adrian freaking Nunez. The next closest is number 87, Blake Corum.
3. OSU, Bama, Georgia, Oregon, USC, and Miami (YTM) are well represented on this list. It's unfortunate that Michigan feels a little left out, in my opinion. 100 names feels like a short list though. Maybe if it were expanded out to 200 or 300 there would be a lot more Michigan representation.
Edit - I looked at the CFB list and Blake jumps up to 70 with DJ Turner slotting in at 92. Still, those are the only 2 names on that list from M. When focusing purely on college basketball... Adrian jumps all the way up to 3rd! Hunter is number 47 with 62k. Moussa is number 99 at 29k.
NOTE: According to On3, their rankings and values do NOT indicate how much money a player has made. They are an estimate of a players financial worth at the current moment in time. I did not dig further to figure out the length of that time frame.
Adrien Nunez is a TikTok influencer so his NIL valuation shouldn’t come as much of a surprise
Wondering if "Adrian freaking Nunez" is his full name or his TikTok name.
It is a good attempt by On3 but those numbers don't look reliable, at all.
It must be like "offers", self-reported. So some folks could be inflated but a lot of guys don't report their deals.
He's not even on the list?
Also what is this bullshit in the first place? On3's evaluation? Where do these numbers come from because they look like On3 picked a number out of their ass and put it next to a guy's name for clicks.
Do these numbers actually come from knowledge of a players NIL deals or are they just a sites "evaluations" (aka bullshit)?
I believe it is mostly dependent on their social media profile hence why guys like Bronny and Arch manning are top picks, Shareef and Shaqir O'Neal are so high. Their famous family members boost their notoriety which boosts their NIL opportunity. Also explains why Adrian Nunez is so high.
According to On3, the numbers are not actually what they've made. They are an estimation of a player's current value at this point in time. I did not dig further to figure out how they calculated it or how long that amount of time is.
Kayshon Boutte valued at $619k. I wonder how much of that is from his commercial with our local personal injury attorney? Get Gordon, get it done!
This seems so simple and efficient to make it rain NIL.
This list is the perceived NIL value, not an accounting of deals earned. Its a weird list to put together because none of the deals are actually public knowledge so its based on very little. Wouldn't put much stock in this list.
Unless I’m mistaken, that’s simply an On3 estimation on the NIL worth of a player. What they think a player might get based on their view of his “worth.” Not how much money they’re actually getting.
They even make these estimations for recruits
Thanks for sharing Randy, this is bookmark worthy and a good starting point for tracking purposes. I'm willing to bet as NIL matures lists will get more accurate.
I could be wrong...but it feels like JJ will be the next U of M QB to make relevant waves in the NFL when it is his time.
Amazing vibes: teammates, friendship, leadership, community, kids, charity, NIL, Charles Woodson - nothing not to like. Thanks for sharing!
I'm hopeful, over time, that this approach to NIL--the big names helping ensure it gets spread amongst teammates--will be a competitive advantage. As money comes out in the open, guys will play harder for teammates who support them too.
Good article overall, especially the money quote from JJ at the end of the piece:
“So, a lot of the NIL... let's just say like the top 5% of the team is mostly getting a lot of benefits from it,” McCarthy explained. “And something like (the Mega Camp), the guys that don't (normally) get that benefit, they need to be getting it. It's just an opportunity for all of us to be together doing it and get the same amount of profit. It's just awesome doing this as a like team building, just chemistry and all that and just being out with the guys. There's nothing better. And NIL kind of allows us to do stuff like this. And at the end of the day, it's bringing us closer, so it's just a blessing for sure.”
Stuff like this from JJ impresses the hell outta me. Add to this all the other things he has done to build up his team and teammates since his verbal commitment and we get plenty of proof of his leadership abilities.
Both JJ and Cade (and not just them, Blake Corum being one of the best examples I've seen of high-quality Michigan Men) just ooze the kind of leadership that will bring out the best in everyone around them while they're representing the Maize and Blue. Leaders and Best, and indicative of the high quality young men our staff looks for on the recruiting trail.
And on the field, no doubt this offense will be in good hands no matter which QB wins the starting job.
So this McCarthy is spreading the wealth around. I know another McCarthy that would take issue with that.
I’m taking a guess at the other McCarthy... but there is a humongous difference between an individual sharing his wealth and the government confiscating the fruit of your labor and giving it to someone else ... that is theft
You make an OUTSTANDING argument in support of reparations! You should be the spokesperson for the cause. :)
I think that's called income tax. While many might agree that it's theft, it's a staple in all capitalist societies except several that are natural resource subsidized.
JJ does have the "it" factor. Both of Michigan's QBs will be winners on and off the field. Gladly would exchange a couple "W"s to have more people like this representing our school while in A2 and beyond.
Dwayne Haskins seemed like a good guy but that fatal accident story just got real ugly.
My grandma always says don't speak ill of the dead.
Unless it's Hitler, because fuck that guy. And Himler, and Goebbels, and Goring... Fuck them too. And don't forget Ante Pavelić. Fucking asshole.
But in most cases, your grandma is correct.
You forgot Stalin, Mao, Maduro, Pol Pot, and pretty much any other person who tried authoritarianism, socialism or communism as a form of gov't / economy since all they have proven to be effective at is getting the common man killed en masse.
Also, Jeffrey Dahmer was a prick.
And Pinochet, Arbenz, Videla, Pahlavi... I was just focusing on Nazis because I hate them the most.
And yeah, I hope Dahmer is on a vegan diet in hell.
It is truely incredible that people neg you for pointing out that the totalitarian dictators of marxist states have been responsible for killing more people than the killers originally listed. Apparently if you are a true believer you can not acknowledge the evil perpetrated by others on the left.
PS Even if we agree not to count the mior league leftist murderers you left out the Kim family, Chavez and Maduro.
FWIW, I didn't neg the good drjaws.
But what I find truly incredible is that you feel the need to make this a left/right issue. It seems like every time someone mentions Hitler, there is now always the common refrain 'well what about Stalin'? Well what about him? He was a fucking killer. The left-wing totalitarians killed a lot of people, but you do realize that they were in power for a lot longer than the Nazis, right? And while the left killed a lot of people, they didn't do it because they viewed those people as inferior. Hitler, on the other hand, attempted to wipe out an entire race of people and he damn near succeeded. 2/3 of the pre-war population of Jews in Europe were killed. Ante Pavelić and the NDH/Ustaše wanted to exterminate all Serbs. There's a certain degree of evil in the racist ideas of the Nazis. I think that's well understood by most people except those constantly viewing things through ideological goggles. That's why I mentioned them. I don't see why you feel the need to diminish that or say 'well, what about those damn commies' whenever Hitler is mentioned.
I wasn't intending to make a political comment. But if you want to go on listing left-wing dictators that were killers just to prove how awful the left is, I can easily go round for round with you with dictators on the right. Say when.
By all accounts, what happened to Haskins was a freak accident. Not something he brought on himself, was under the influence for, etc. I don't think you meant anything but it but I'm not sure that's a really fair comparison you're making.
When someone is that drunk (0.24 BAC) and walking across 10 lanes of a high speed interstate in the dark, I would say that's not an accident.
It's unfortunate but at some point the guy had to make just one better decision to avoid losing his life.
You're implying suicide? Intoxicated poor judgement is does not mean he wanted to die.
It's an accident if it's not intentional, and there is nothing whatsoever to suggest it was intentional.
Plenty of accidents are attributable at least in part to alcohol impairment. While having a high BAC may have been bad judgment, plenty of people -- including, I'm guessing, many here -- have occasionally had similarly high BAC's and made bad decisions as a result. As such, I would suggest your "It's unfortunate but" phrasing is out of line. Haskins was a sports hero to our friends from Columbus, and a damn good athlete who had his whole life ahead of him. It's a tragedy, period, that he died.
We also need to realize the invincible factor of youth. We all think we will live forever when we are that young!

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins was intoxicated when a dump truck hit and killed him on a Florida interstate earlier this year, according to a toxicology report released Monday by the Broward County Medical Examiner's Office.
The medical examiner's office determined Haskins had a blood-alcohol content of at least 0.20% at the time of his autopsy, more than double the legal limit in Florida of .08%.
Haskins' toxicology report also notes that ketamine was detected in his urine at the time of death, though no drugs were detected in his blood.
Ketamine can be used as a sedative or treatment for depression, but it is also known as a "club drug" that can produce "dissociative sensations and hallucinations," according to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Thanks for posting this link. For me, reading it explains the accident and serves to close the chapter/book on Dwayne Haskins. It wasn't "a freak accident".
Huge upside. Bad choice. Sad ending ...
Idk we can try to insulate our insecurities but at the end of the day I would venture that most of us (99% of us) have gotten dangerously drunk more than once and didn't die that night. We're all humans, even those of us who make bad decisions sometimes.
Everyone makes bad decisions w varying degrees of consequences that can come down to dumb luck or misfortune.
This is true - humans make bad decisions, and we should be kind and forgiving.
But I hope most of us (e.g., 99%) don't drive while intoxicated, because in many cases, it's others that you kill. We just had a few teenagers who live near us die because some asshole was drunk driving.
Michigan is very lucky to have a man like this on its roster. McNamara included. He just seems incredibly mature for his age, and its not something you see all the time.
Showed some promise this past season, but if he can keep progressing on the field, along with displaying this level of attitude and maturity, he could hear the league calling his name in the next few years.
This is part of Harbaugh's attempt to restart satellite camps. Genius move.
Saban can get off his high horse about those now that he can pay them to stay home. Or Texas AM can if Nick can't come up with the dough.
That was my first thought too.
For instance, let's say my Michigan friends and me who live in Tampa, FL want to have some athletes down here to talk to local kids about how great UofM is, how great A2 is, the world-class education, etc., is there anything holding us back from doing that? I feel like there are alumni who would absolutely support stuff like that, even if it wasn't hugely lucrative for the athletes. Especially hosting such events in the hometown's/home states of these same athletes.
