"Coach Howard does an elite job," UCLA coach Mick Cronin said before his team beat Michigan in the Elite Eight. "He doesn't do a good job. He does an elite job. When your team is as organized as they are on both ends and plays as physical and tough as they do, that is a reflection of their coach."

His contemporaries seem to concur.

I coached his daughter's basketball team for 5 years.  All he ever said was "Great job."  Better person than he is a coach.  Well deserved.  Future is quite bright.

That's very courteous of him, as we would all expect. But I also suspect it means that you were doing an actual great job. He doesn't strike me as the kind of man who would let his daughter's basketball development suffer under five years of less than excellent coaching. Well done!

Don't want to create a new thread but update on some of the MBB signees on ESPN U today.

Caleb Houstan on with Montverde right now -- like his defense and almost too unselfish on offense. 10 points in first half.

Diabate was on earlier for IMG - did not see it but Matt at Endless Motor tweeted out some highlights. (Which I have tried unsuccessfully to embed) featuring athleticism at the rim, good defense, and a nice 15-foot jumper.

Also for Montverde -- Jalen Duren (2022 Center - recent CB to M) is clearly the #1 player in the class over Bates.  I doubt either set foot on a college court.

John Beilein was my favorite coach at Michigan ever in any sport. To think that he could suddenly depart and be replaced by a coach who has a great chance to be even better is mind-boggling. Juwan has passed every test with flying maize and blue colors.

I keep thinking how frustrating it was when Tressel flamed out at OSU, only for Urban Meyer to fall into their lap. This could be our analog to that, minus the sleazy scandal part and plus the tremendously high character of both the departing coach and his replacement. Optimism doesn't come easily to Michigan fans these days, but how can you not be optimistic about Juwan and the basketball program? He is the antidote to BPONE.
