That's why the US plays games in Denver and Seattle as often as possible.

Honduras's national soccer team's home stadium.
The size of a fucking postage stamp, a field that is as much sand as it is grass, and there are concrete barricades exceedingly close to the field of play.
Dangerous as fuck.
Also, it's usually 95 degrees and 100% humidity there.

If you list them in order, Derrick green is in the third spot. If you look at home run statistics, for example, and there is a tie for first, the third person has the third most home runs, since two people have more than him. He wouldn't have the second most home runs.
Therefore, green is currently 3rd string because two players will be ahead of him in the depth chart

Tonic has quinine. Which is a very polarizing flavor. I think tonic tastes like horse piss mixed with earwax, myself.

Pelosi can also play left back, I could see him playing there if we have a logjam at mid and a dearth of fullback.

He declined a Germany call-up, and lived in the US for 6 years. It is more than a hope that he plays for the US.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||I disagree. We may only list||
I disagree. We may only list 15 here but make no mistake, we have a large body of talent in the pipeline that isn't being discussed yet. The difference is our best prospects have lower ceilings right now than Spain prospects.
In the past, we would have to field journeyman untalented guys like Wondolowski, Bornstein, Ricardo Clark, etc... I think you won't see any of those type of guys on the 2018 roster.

|10 weeks 5 days ago||I dunno man. The US pipeline||
I dunno man. The US pipeline is in better shape than ever before. The probability of more than one guy not on this list to make the 2018 roster is pretty high. It is likely that a relatively less heralded player makes huge strides in the next four years simply because the number of Good US prospects is higher than ever right now. For the first time ever we don't have to pin our hopes on a guy like Joe Corona. If he doesn't reach his potential, a guy like Paul Arriola, Joe Gallardo, or Marc Pelosi will.
The arrow of US soccer is pointing firmly up.

Chile's offense is going to give the Brazil backline fits. Luiz, Marcelo, and Alves are going to need a lot of protection when they make their runs. I think this game should be very exciting to watch.

I agree with a lot of what you say except for your conclusion.
There was a huge study done years ago by a British institute aiming at the same questions brought up here. Their conclusion was that America lacks competent coaching at all levels. Previously, most coaches knew very little about soccer at all, let alone world class soccer. This is absolutely changing. Kids have more access to high quality coaching than ever before. You will see the US continue to gain relevance in the soccer world as we bring in foreign coaches and learn from foreign coaches and create our own national brand of soccer.
That is where Klinsman is proving to be the ideal hire. He has not only managed the men's senior team, he has dictated a US style and made broad changes to the youth system by bringing in amazing coaches, establishing infrastructure for kids to get more access to coaching, and by creating a semblance of a talent investment structure similar to that of Germany.
The arrow is definitely pointing up for Us soccer.

Meh. Donovan is a shell of his former self. I actually like that roster.
|18 weeks 5 days ago||I'd like to see it normalized||
I'd like to see it normalized by position.
Pick a random white player out, it's more likely (based on numbers of players entering the draft at each position) that the player you picked is a lineman or a linebacker. Words like "gritty" often describe these posiitons more than, say, a wide receiver.
I dont think the conclusions would be any different, but it would be a more solid application of statistics.

|21 weeks 3 days ago||Assuming that we are talking||
Assuming that we are talking about a series of indpeendent and identically distributed trials (which sports are surely not), it won't produce extraneous results. Here's why:
By using "at least" what you're saying is that everything after the 4th win is irrelevant, the computer is basically multiplying its answer by 1 for every game after that 4th win since a win or a loss by team A still results in team A winning the series.
The order is incorporated into the binomial distribution calculations done by Excel.
Considering the answer given by Excel is identical to the one done by hand, and identical to the one produced by the OP's code, i'd say it's pretty accurate.
|21 weeks 3 days ago||wut?||
|21 weeks 3 days ago||Alternatively, you could look||
Alternatively, you could look at it as a binomial distribution question and compute P(A wins series|A win game X)
Which, on Excel, would be "=1-binomdist(2,6,0.5,true)"
2=number of successes
6=number of trials
This will give you the Probability of A winning between 0 and 2 games, meaning Team A loses the series... So you do 1-that answer to get the P(A wins series).
Doing it this way negates the neccesity to do different calcluations for th series ending in 5, 6, or 7 games because we use the "at least" term. The computer will still compute all 6 remaning games, but as the numbers show, the results are the same.... and it's a lot less work.
