none of the above. Those players are young.
Our linebackers next year are going to be awesome. As this blog has said many times, Ross was limited this year because the DL couldn't keep him clean. When he was kept clean, he was a menace. See Northwestern.
JMFR never showed what he is capable of this year due to injury.
I don't think Morgan is an all-big ten type Mike, but he's good, and he's going to be a senior next year.
Gedeon, Bolden, Jenkins-Stone, will all improve this off-season (Especially Gedeon. He's going to be a monster)

1) Given his unique athleticism, the coaches felt he was an asset on special teams, where athleticism is often the most important trait.
2) Mattison has stated in the past how Thomas will likely be an NFL player. Perhaps the coaches felt it unlikely that he would stay 5 years, so why not get him on the field this year?
In my optimistic oppinion, the fact that Thomas played special teams this year but didn't start speaks more positively of him than if he had been redshirted and annointed as the future of the defensive backfield.

I believe what you are referring to are the defensive linemen saying they were scared of him when he pulled because he packed a punch. The coaches never said he was one of the better guards, and he was never higher on the depth chart than Glasgow or Burzynski.

Ah yes I see that now.
That's a fair point, but even with Pipkins out, our front 7 is going to be very very good.
|3 days 19 hours ago||But MSU and OSU are making||
But MSU and OSU are making replacements too. The unproven argument is nullified because every team replaces people. Pipkins and Thomas were heavily praised by Mattison, and the consensus on Thomas was that he needed year to improve his coverage, but that he was easily one of the best athletes on the team. Pipkins was a starter this year before getting hurt.
Chris Bryant never received such praise and started the year behind TWO walk-ons. apples and oranges there.

I'm oddly optimistic about next season. We replace starters Thomas Gordon and Jabril Black on defense with Dymonte Thomas (probably) and Ondre Pipkins while keeping in tact a really really good linebacker core of Ryan, Morgan, and Ross. Depth will be in our favor with guys like Ojemudia, Poggi, Stribling, and Gedeon all progressing. Not to mention the addition of Jabrill Peppers.
If we can avoid crippling injuries on defense, and if our offense can figure out how to gain some consistancy (that's the big 'if") then I really think we could win 4 of those road games and compete for the B1G title.
I think there's a good chance we turn the corner next year. I'll predict we lose to ND, but win the rest.

The difference is in poker there are 52 cards that never change. Football is a bit more complicated.
Either way, these automated decision functions are heuristics at best. They should never ever considered to be deterministic.
Though ultimately I agree with you. A good coach should be able to use all the available data (both historical and situational) and consider the constraints and the specific situation in order to make the best call for the given situation. The best call isn't always going to be the one dictated by these charts.

Only way we win this game is if the defense does some crazy shit.
So we play the most aggressive gameplan possible. Blitz 8 guys every couple plays, go for interceptions, go for strips, try to jump the snap at risk of being offside.
Playing conservative will guarantee a loss. Our only chance is to play super aggressive and hope that the breaks go our way.

Turning The Game into The Fashion Show. Dislike.
UCLA vs USC is always blue vs red. I would absolutely love to see that in The Game. Both teams in their traditional home uniforms rather than these stupid gimmicky single-use shenanigans uniforms.

Welcome to the wonderful world of scotch! Im not the most knowledgable, but I know a few things:
Id reccomend figuring out what kind of scotch you like: Islay scotch (peaty (smokey), sometimes leathery, peppery), Sherried scotch (sweet, bold, winey), or if you're more middle of the road. Some entry levels for each:
Islay: Tallisker 10 year, Highland Park 12, Laphroaig 10 year.
Sherry: Aberlour 12 year, Macallan 12 year Sherry Oak
Middle of the road: Glenfiddich 12 year, Glenmorangie Original, Cragganmore 12.
Once you know what aspects of scotch you like and what you dont, you can continue on your quest to find the perfect scotch for you. Personally, I will drink any of them but Islay scotches are my favorite. Lagavulin 16, Laphroaig 18, Tallisker Storm... Those are my happy place.

If you can find it, you won't regret buying it. A bit more intense than the standard offering, and oh so complex. The finish is the longest I've experienced.

Im currently holding my 2-month old daughter, listening to the new Arcade Fire album on vinyl, and deciding which scotch Im going to drink when my wife gets home.
I appreciate your sentiment but Im feelin pretty damn good right now regardless of Michigan football.
Hope everyone out there keeps perspective.
PS- Im leaning towards Lagavulin 16 year Distiller's Edition.

Well, Hand is an 18 year old who may or may not end up being great. Messi is one of the greatest to ever play the game, is 25, and the only real center forward on Barcelona.
Also I have a dog named "Messi."

I think there's a confounding variable here. Where do head coaches come from? The ranks of coordinators. Usually successful coordinators get head coach positions. To be a successful coordinator, you almost gave to be a "guru." There is no leadership coordinator

auburn's long term success is irellevant. theyre winning now. under the same circumstances you claim are the reason for our lack of success. Demonstrating our real issue is with the coaching.
|3 weeks 5 days ago||two years ago we had veterans||
two years ago we had veterans on the offensive line. auburn is a top 10 rushing offense with the same youth issues we currently have. The point is they adapt and find ways to succeed given their constraints.
If you think Michigan needs certain circumstances in order to win, then youre going to accept a losing team for many many years. a great team can win under any circumstances.

Theres a difference between tempering expectations and accepting this flaming tire fire of an offense.
I said nothing of tradition. I spoke of infrastructure. When you have the infrastructure that Michigan has, there are no excuses for not being a perennial top-15 team. You can attract the talent, you can pay the coaches.
