Michigan did hold Wisconsin to their lowest regulation points total (57) in Big Ten play and their second lowest regulation points total on the season. The UM defense is bordering on legit.

Next year is THE year for basketball. Return to final four - someone just needs to let Caris LeVert and his senior year of eligibility know. Team will be absolutely stacked, especially adding in Duncan Robinson.

I think Michigan wins by 25-30.
Wait, this is the Nicholls State preview thread right?

No way Walton gets that few minutes a game. Last night he had 24 minutes only because he was in foul trouble from the get go and that will not happen but once in twenty games.
LeVert/Irvin/Walton are going to be out there the entire game if it allows. What you'd like to see develop over the season is Doyle, Chatman and Donnal to play well enough to eat into Spike's minutes, relegate Max to the bench and to cover for any of the big 3 that happen to get into foul trouble on a given night.
LeVert - 38

I'll advocate for the Air Force game. Michigan won 31-25 but was one fourth-and-goal stand from being down with a couple minutes to play (AF tried some wonky fake field goal).
And Michigan's only offense that entire game came from Denard juking out the entire AF defense on two 70 yard TD runs. (Go re-watch those runs on the highlights, well worth it)

It's going to be a growing pains year compared to the last two years of basketball we've been spoiled with. There will be ugly losses and they won't win any championships but they will make the tournament and are building towards a dynamite 2015 year.

I still feel pretty good about blaming Borges and Hoke for squandering Denard's upperclass years.
|14 weeks 4 days ago||Penn State being awful and||
Penn State being awful and the bye week offered a nice feel-good reprieve from an otherwise historically bad season. However, it was more sleight-of-hand than reality and this week reality bites.
|14 weeks 5 days ago||So you're saying he had a||
So you're saying he had a solid year in his first year as a starter under the tutelage of RichRod where Denard was put in a position to succeed and then both years under Hoke he was asked to do things he couldn't do and didn't develop.
Denard was never going to play QB in the NFL but he could have absolutely dominated the college game as an upperclassman but was never afforded the opportunity.

Bottom line is this is a losing team with not a lot of upside. Whether you boycott or not, support the players or protest the admins it will not change the fact -- ticket prices and demand for this game (the marquee game of the worst home schedule in decades) continue to plummet.
It's going to get worse before it gets better.

All of the great coaches know when to "turn it up to 11" when giving the business to the officials (sometimes they walk a fine line, other times they cross it, but they all do it). Even John Beilein has added that to his aresenal.
That Brady Hoke never changes his temperment is reflected in how his players play.

I don't think anyone is advocating to continue to pay the massively overstaffed do-nothing Brandon installed administrators. Cut those positions and pay way back to make room to pay for coaches.

Love me some legacy numbers. Now I'll always remember Hoke as the coach who benched Tom Harmon.

|16 weeks 2 days ago||Which makes it altogether||
Which makes it altogether more mind boggling that the athletic department wouldn't give the football headcoach the support he needed to get all of the pieces in place for the program.
Could you imagine them telling Hoke he wouldn't be allowed to hire Mattison? Beilein that he can't hire LaVall or Bacari? Or our next football coach whomever he needed? That would be utter madness, just like it was when it was done to RichRod.
|16 weeks 2 days ago||So true. It would have taken||
So true. It would have taken exactly one meeting of athletic department staff for Bo to call out and put and end to the in-fighting shenanigans.
Instead you have the faction remnants of a broken and lost era fighting over succession and politics - that continue to fight and work against the players, the fans and the program to this day.

Silent obedience is a vote for the status quo and an implicit endorsement of Brandon/Hoke.
Not everything is so black and white to me that I can't reconcile poo-poo'ing the AD (chants/kick-offs/protests) while still cheering my heart out for Gardner and Co.

Michigan beats Minnesota if Devin Gardner is the QB from the get-go and probably so if just for the second half. If Michigan beats Minnesota, they'd be favored to win this game and we'd feel a lot better about Rutgers.
Since the benching of Tom Harmon was a completely arbitrary coaching decision, one that their hand is literally forced to not make this week, I'll still with the original trajectory of a Michigan win not dissimilar to UConn of last year: 24-14 Wolverines.

Look, after three seasons the coach had a losing overall record (46-53, 0.464), awful conference record (21-33, 0.388), 2-for-11 against rivals, a worse winning percentage against ranked opponents, and only one post-season appearance. And recruiting was not looking great either.
There's no way John Beilein should have been given a fourth year, right?

Don't underestimate a seasoned radio/show host being able to talk both sides of a point and obfuscate to make their guests look bad.
Good practice for Brian, he'll need more of it to succeed in other public forums in the future.

Lets see... just how was Shane playing before he got concussed:
* Sustained high ankle sprain
You gotta know when to pull your guy out to save his confidence and build up the teaching, but this was never about building up Shane Morris this was about sending god knows what message to Devin Gardner.

2011 was a MIRAGE. Nebraska was the only decent win.
Notre Dame 8-5.
Western Michigan (7-6), Eastern Michigan (6-6), San Diego State (8-5, beat no one of significance), Minnesota (3-9), Northwestern (6-7), Purdue (7-6), Illinois (7-6).
With losses to 7-6 Iowa and MSU (11-3). Michigan's schedule also had them skip 11-3 Wisconsin and 10-4 Penn State.
Anyone could have coached that season to 9+ wins, including RR.

What are the "ups" you're referring to in the Brady Hoke era?
Presumably the mirage of the 2011 season, when literally anyone could have coached Michigan to 10 wins? I can't think of any positives outside of that false one. And every single measureable trendline is moving in the wrong direction.
