The College Football Playoff Semifinals MegaCast kicks off with ESPN airing the traditional telecast, which features the network’s innovative technology combined with unique vantage points, providing fans with a state-of-the-art presentation. More than 50 cameras will be deployed inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas and Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.

Featured in at least one of the CFP semifinals will be:

AllCam: Captures the entire field at all times

Eight End Zone Pylon Cams: Cameras inside all eight pylons

First and Ten: Cameras at multiple angles of the first down line

Alternate Presentations (all available on the ESPN App):

Command Center (ESPN2): A multi-angle presentation, which includes up to four different vantage points at any one time, with real-time player and team statistics supplementing the game action.

Skycast (ESPNU): The popular view from above the action and behind the offense on most plays. This unique angle has long been one of ESPN’s alternate viewing options and is readily available on multiple games every week. Replays will be shown regularly throughout this presentation. Anish Shroff and Roddy Jones will help guide the action.

All-22 (ESPNEWS): Watch the game the same way players and coaches study film, with a vantage point high above the field of play. The angle allows for the 22 players on the field to be seen at all times, providing the ability to distinguish how plays develop while listening to the ESPN Radio call.

New in 2021, the halftime marching band performances at the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic and the Capital One Orange Bowl will be available on the ESPN App. The sights and sounds of Alabama’s Million Dollar Band, Cincinnati’s Bearcat Band, the Michigan Marching Band and Georgia’s Redcoat Marching Band will be streaming live from their respective College Football Playoff semifinals via the All-22 view.

Maybe this is the old man yelling at the clouds but is there anything wrong with current standard viewing angle of the game. You know, the one that's been around for like 60 or 70 years. You're gonna get all the reply angles anyways.

Although I must admit the ref angle is sometimes fun, especially when a player blows 'em up.

There's definitely not "anything wrong" with it, and none of this is intended to supplant it. It's still the main feed and you have that option. These are all the supplemental options. Think of them as extras, bonus coverage.

No one watches the director's commentary version of Heat, and then wonders why they just dont make regular movies.

But yeah, for you and likely the majority of viewers, you'll get your main ABC or ESPN feed. Fowler and Herbie will be there. Hard cam on lock. A few fun replays with the extra cameras and extra production value. But for people who want to watch all 22, or have second screen experiences, these 'big game' options are great!

Oh and honestly, I think I prefer it this way. When game directors have too many options, it seems like they feel they need to use the extra cameras, which to me sometimes distract from the actual game. No one is here for your artistic interpretation of how a college football game COULD be broadcast Sal. I'm reminded of that basketball game a few years back where they gave us floor level sideline cam (aka vomit cam). Stick all the extras on other channels and keep the main broadcast "traditional".

You can’t really see shit down the field with the current camera angles. The All 22 actually shows you wants going on down the field with coverages and WR routes. This is why Devin Gardner comes off as harsh on Cade McNamarra on MMQB; he sees the All 22 of every play and sees multiple plays a game where he’s not throwing deep to some wide open guys. We don’t really see what’s happening down the field unless the QB throws it deep or we get a rare replay off the downfield coverage on a key 3rd down failed conversion.

But what about the commercials? Do they still show all the fansville ones as well as the Coors Light snowman and yeti singing "more than a feeling"? If they don't have Flo Progressive ads, I'm out.

Thread jack: I have a question about getting ESPN. I have the AT&T cable package without all the extra channels like ESPN. This is a problem only 4-5 times a year. Unfortunately, that includes one of the most important games in Michigan football history this year. Also, with the new and more infectious strain of COVID, I'm not keen on watching it in a bar/alumni event with lots of people of undetermined vaccine status. (My wife is high risk.)

So, is there an economical way to subscribe to a service that includes ESPN? I do know how to use my cell phone to link up to my TV, so online access only would work just fine.

I might be wrong but I think the ESPN+ sub only gets you the "extra" plus stuff and does not give you the primary ESPN channels.  Now in this case it might somewhat work because of the different views on different channels but I don't think you would get the primary ESPN feed.
