Well let's look on the…

Well let's look on the bright side.  There are a lot worse teams to be 0-8 against.  We know that from our football experiences.

MIsuse of the word …

MIsuse of the word "literally" makes me figuratively insane.

Agree 100%   The combination…

Agree 100%   The combination of transfer portal and one-and-dones makes the sport feel like you're just watching a semi-pro minor league.  Football isn't as bad because there are no one-and-dones, but the transfer portal is wrecking that sport too.

Beilein really screwed us…

Beilein really screwed us over leaving the way that he did.  It was terrible for both UM and for him.

I'm willing to give Juwan a pass since he had never been a head coach and we were more or less forced to take a gamble on him since we were hiring after most coaches had already gotten jobs.

I think that he loves Michigan, and he conceivably could have gotten an NBA job by now.

He had some great recruits but didn't do anything with them.  I think that he got a harsh lesson in the concept of team chemistry.

Give him maybe one more year.  If he misses the tourney next year, he should go.

IIRC we wore the blue pants…

IIRC we wore the blue pants in 2021.  You're right about '15, '17, and '19 though.

I'd rather not leave anything to chance at this point and go with the blues.  But eh -- whatever.

It's pretty much impossible…

It's pretty much impossible to interpret this as something other than another massive "L" for the university and for us as a fan base.  We saw Warde and Santa puffing out their chest and we figured that we finally had a fight on our hands.  Then UM clearly got cold feet and backed down humiliatingly, with our rivals doing victory laps all over the country and the B1G rubbing it in our noses.  If you thought that we were getting murdered in the PR battle then you hadn't seen nothin' yet.  Pure idiocy and incompetence by the people in charge once again.

So Purdue had our signs in…

So Purdue had our signs in the B1G CCG?  We’re lucky our players didn’t get hurt.

The B1G's approach to this…

The B1G's approach to this situation is a great example of the saying "democracy is three wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner" in action.  Or in this case, 13 wolves and 1 sheep.

I suspect that when all of this is said and done, the B1G does actually have the power to do what we suspect they will do.  If you share a conference with 13 teams that hate you, I suppose that they can band together to completely fuck you over.  Maybe that's reality.  If that's the case, then maybe we should leave the conference. It's not as if being in the B1G has charm anymore anyways.

It's time to stop making…

It's time to stop making excuses for our running game.  It's simply not good.  At all..  As a group, Corum, Edwards, and Mullings are averaging 4.6 ypc. That's after 9 games against total cream puffrs. Just to give you some perspective, in Hoke's final year, Deveon Smith, Derrick Green, and Drake Johnson averaged 5.4 ypc.

Last year Corum, Edwards, and Stokes averaged 6.2 ypc.  Something has gone very wrong with the running game this year and it's time to sound the alarm.  It looks like Corum never fuly recovered from his injury and I don't know what is going on with Donovan Edwards.  It's McCarthy or bust for us.  He has been carrying the offense on his back this year and I hope that he can do it against PSU, OSU, and whoever we play against in the post season.

These UFRs so far this year…

These UFRs so far this year have felt like they have been whistling past the graveyard vis-a-vis the run game. It's just not that good.  For whatever reasons.  Seven games in, you know what you've got.  Nothing to be ashamed of there.  Oluwatimi was a once-a-generation combination of athleticism and awareness that you don't just plug in a new guy and replace.  On top of that, Corum just isn't the same Corum.  Knee injuries suck.  But we do have JJ to potentially offset any shortcomings in that run game.

What in the hell does signal…

What in the hell does signal stealing have to do with the health and safety of the MSU players?

Sounds like projection to me.

OL was at least good in pass…

OL was at least good in pass blocking but run blocking they looked physically inferior.  D-line was great against the run.  Not enough pressure in the passing game though.

Doesn't really matter much…

Doesn't really matter much when your OL is getting their ass kicked at the point of attack.

OL had their worst game run…

OL had their worst game run blocking since at least 2019.  Way too much reliance on JJ McCarthy to convert 3rd and 10s.  If the officials get that illegal forward pass call right and we maybe miss one or two of those 3rd and 10s and 3rd and 11s, this game feels a lot worse.

Failing to run the ball against a cream puff like ECU has historically been very ill tidings for Michigan. ECU might have been packing the box but that's because we had an extra tackle and two tight ends out there a lot of the time.  Guys were getting whipped one on one and if an O-lineman got a second level block all day, I missed it.

Worst game for special teams that I can remember in quite some time too.

But the Marcus Hall double bird moment definitely belongs to the moment that the B1G signed this shitass TV deal that put the game on Peacock.  Their game coverage was absolutely shitty and you still had to sit through commercials.  They missed a full Michigan play because they showed the replay of Kalel Mullings's pass from last year three times.  And Chris Simms offered nothing of value commentary-wise.  Just banal crap and no virtually no breakdowns of plays. I wholeheartedly endorse piracy at this point.

And I'm so glad that the NCAA has eliminated 10% of the plays from scrimmage this year.  If there's anything we college football fans hate, it's plays from scrimmage.  Fortunately, tickets are 10% cheaper to account for it, amirite?

Blech.  Tirico is the…

Blech.  Tirico is the classic example of a great studio host who doesn't have the voice for play-by-play, but somehow got into that role anyways.

I'm resigned to it happening…

I'm resigned to it happening at this point.

It'd be nice to see the OSU…

It'd be nice to see the OSU fans bickering on their message boards about their coach for a change.

I agree about 2024.  We need…

I agree about 2024.  We need the three-peat this year, because I don't expect us to be very good next year.  Massive rebuild everywhere on offense and we're going to pay the price of a poor 2023 recruiting class. Schedule might be absolutely brutal too.  7-5 or 6-6 could be in the cards.

OSU has changed somewhat…

OSU has changed somewhat under Day from Meyer. They have gone full Fun-and-Gun it seems, whereas Meyer was very much focused on the ground game or at least having a balanced attack. I wonder if returning to Meyer's style of football just isn't in Day's DNA.  I think that he's a "throw for 400 yards per game" guy and that's just who he is. This works against a lot of teams but they have been totally unprepared for us in the trenches the past couple of years. They may have gotten too QB and WR focused, and their defense has been spotty (and just plain bad against us).

It took 7 years for Michigan to build what they have right now. We actually have a program right now with a unique identity.  Imitating that is something that can't easily be done overnight.

That is not to say that I expect a repeat of '21-'22 any time soon, but I don't see Day running off six or seven in a row against us.

This is very true, although…

This is very true, although if Day loses to us again in '23, I think that the pressure will ramp up that high for him in '24.  Especially if OSU loses another game before that.

I'm sure that Day is under a…

I'm sure that Day is under a ton of pressure this year.  When you beat your rival 15 out of 16 times and then suddenly lose two in a row it must feel like the end of the world.  Truth is, 15 out of 16 is "Michigan dominance in Brown Jug game" level dominance, and it's not reasonable to expect that. Reasonable expectations for OSU would be 6 or 7 wins a decade vs. Michigan if both teams have competent coaching, and that means that occasional 2 game losing streak.  Even Auburn is 5-11 against Alabama under Saban's tenure.

There's no way that we should have ever lost 15 out of 16.

The Bucks have also lost 2 games or less 12 years in a row. Imagine how pissed the Buckeye fans will be at Day if he has a 9-3 season or, god forbid, an 8-4 season.  It's inevitable though.  Nobody stays dominant forever, even though when they have been dominant for a decade it's hard to imagine anything else.  Just look at Florida State -- 14 seasons in a row losing 2 games or less from 1987 through 2000, with two national chamionships in there.  If you told people in 2000 that Florida State would be crappy for most of the next 20 years, people would have thought that you were crazy.  Ditto for USC under Pete Carroll, Florida under Spurrier and Meyer, etc.

Its kind of a meh hire. …

Its kind of a meh hire.  Babcock got probably more credit than he deserved for winning a Cup with the Wings but there's no doubt that '08 wasn't just talented -- they were hard working and disciplined too.  A year later, there was a dropoff and you could see the difference -- maybe his act was wearing thin by then?  Then he coasted on the Euro twins before Toronto snatched him up. As a Red Wings fan, I wasn't saying "good riddance", but I wasn't super sad to see him go either.

With that said, it's a fairly common cycle with professional coaches in every sport now -- a guy like Tortarella or Babcock can get really high performance out of a team for a short time, but then it wears off quickly.

Heck you don't need to be…

Heck you don't need to be BPONE'd to not like Michigan -36.5  Without looking, I'd guess that's in the Top 10 point spreads that Michigan has ever been favored by. That makes sense against the dregs of I-A but East Carolina?  ehhhh I'm not so sure about that one.

Iowa having to cover 21.5…

Iowa having to cover 21.5 points against a non Division II team does seem like a tall order.  With that said, Weber St. beat them by 28 last year.

Yeah, it kinda is. But I…

Yeah, it kinda is. But I also think that what's happening here is that the people who make money off of sports are progressively pushing the boundary of "when will the fans just get up and walk away?" So far, we haven't, because we're basically addicts and we'll do anything or pay anything to watch Michigan sports. (or the NFL, NBA, etc if that's your thing). Taking all of sports broadcasting it and fragmenting it into pieces that you have to pay for individually, on top of the $200/mo that you already pay for DirecTV and whatever you pay for internet is the latest step. The results of this money grubbing strategy are going to become very clear as us older addicts die off and the younger generations that grew up with a larger variety of entertainment won't even be slightly interested.

At any rate, B1G games ending up on Peacock is epic fail by the conference. Job #1 in a TV contract is making sure that your games are actually on fucking television. Kevin Warren's legacy is ensuring that B1G sports fans now have to pay for a Peacock subscription if they want to see all of the games -- that's on top of everything else that you pay, which is already a huge number.

Is Detroit strapped for cash or salary cap space?  My first guess would be "no" but I don't know.

I'd love to bring him back.

Edit:  $3.7 for cap hit for Vrana and Abdelkader (still).  Also -- Andrew Copp makes $5.6 MM per year?  How in the hell did that happen?  Is that really the going rate for a guy who averages less than half a point per game?

Is anyone else here happy…

Is anyone else here happy not because they dislike Boston, but because they thought it would be brutally unfair for the Bruins to win a Stanley Cup when the '96 Red Wings didn't even get to the finals?

Lindros FWIW was worth of…

Lindros FWIW was worth of the hype, but he played in the dead puck era and the dude couldn't stay healthy.

Crosby has been worth the hype too. I hate saying that as a Red Wings fan but he's got three Stanley Cups as a captain and a ton of other great accomplishments.

But I do love what McDavid has done.  I'm glad to see that he hasn't been neutered like so many stud scorers over the years who have had to adapt to me more defensive.  Of course, that could also at least partially explain why Edmonton has only had one decent playoff run since he has been there.

I feel like you could much…

I feel like you could much easier find a negative back-to-back paring in recent history than a positive one.  Lots of huge quick momentum turns in the OSU series, in particular.

If you are talking strictly…

If you are talking strictly back-to-back, it's tough to think of a bigger pair.  This year's OSU road win was probably our biggest win since 1997.  There are certainly some memorable wins and huge plays in there, but I'm not sure that there'a a "back-to-back" that was more meaningful.

Edit -- the closest thing that I can think of is the 2004 MSU game -- three plays with an onside kick recovery, a run by Hart, and then a TD pass to Braylon.

I'd be surprised if Mullings…

I'd be surprised if Mullings leaves since he will probably have a clear short yardage role and he might develop into a really good "thunder" to complement the lighting.

Stokes, on the other hand -- hard to see him getting many meaningful carries.
