IDK why but this gives me confidence. I understand that Rich is a national brand and so it makes sense to make the announcement on a big stage. However, the fact that Rich is also an alum gives me hope that Blake is doing this to make his return announcement bigger for the fanbase.

"I feel like if he was leaving, he's do a Twitter post thanking the fans, coaches, etc for all of the good times and support."

Use the subjunctive, please: "...if he were leaving..."

Being a grammar Nazi helps reduce THE INCREDIBLE ANXIETY I now have as I wait.  A few Calculus problems are probably in order as well.

I feel like if he were staying, he'd do a twitter post thanking the fans, coaches, etc for all of the good times and support then stating he's coming back.

Announcing he's going pro on the show of a guy who covers the NFL as much or more as he covers college makes more sense to me, but then I'm a glass half-empty guy.

Would love to have him back, but NFL RB shelf life is short.  If he gets a solid NIL deal in the area of a 3 to 4 round NFL rookie contract then it makes more sense.  If not get paid when you can get paid.

Hate he got banged up, he may want one more run at the biggest prize.

The short shelf life of RBs in the NFL may change the economics for RBs in college.  Someone like Blake Corum (one of the best at a position that is undervalued by the pro league) may actually actually be able to make enough NIL money to justify coming back.  It would be similar to what Hunter Dickinson experienced with the NBA - traditional bigs are undervalued in the current form of the NBA, so he could make comparable money in college.

What'll also be interesting, long term, will be whether that change in economics in turn changes how NFL teams value RBs.  If they start seeing really high quality RBs stay out of the draft, does that induce NFL teams to take RBs in higher rounds again?  There will be interesting 2nd- and 3rd-order effects that will take years to materialize.

Agree and like posted in the past, if you are a Mike Hart type who has charisma and coaching capabilities, why not make your college career as amazing as possible? You can thrill alums for 50 years of nostalgia and still make a decent living after as coach or commentator.

In the NFL you get chewed up and spit out and you're an afterthought. I think about people like Biakabutuka, Chris Howard, Chris Perry, etc. Hard to be the back that sticks around for a decade.

In college less chance for the worst of concussions too. In NFL faster swarming players with monster hits. Without even thinking concussions I think some if the guys above (and many others) had injuries in the NFL that just didn't happen in college due to competition level.

Stay safe and sane with NIL money in college. Be a popular UofM lifer. To me, it's a better life.

Can someone break down what a hypothetical NIL deal could be versus a first-year pro running back’s income? Isn’t the biggest perk about the NFL, in addition to the multi-millions guaranteed, starting the clock on your pension and health benefits? Kenneth Walker makes $2 million a year as a 2nd round rookie on 4-years, $8.5 million, with $5.5 million guaranteed. Rachaad White makes about $1 million as a 3rd round rookie on a 4-years, $5 million contract, with only $1 million guaranteed. Is it really possible Blake is getting a million dollars let alone millions plural in NIL for one more collegiate season? I find millions plural a little hard to believe.

He's a projected 3rd - 4th rounder, which would slot his salary into the high 6 figures, not 7.  So it's quite possible that NIL can match that, if not surpass it.  All the numbers I've seen say he could get ~$1M in NIL at Michigan.  If that's true, it beats being a mid-round selection.

He had alot of carries up until the injury.  If he does come back, they really need to limit his carries in the OOC games and the lighter work of the schedule.  Toting it 25-30 times per game wears on a RB.  Donovan needs to stay healthy too to share the load, in addition to another guy or two that can be trusted.

I'm expecting he goes to the NFL with this announcement though.  Based only on the short shelf life of NFL RB's and no idea of any NIL plans that may keep him for one more year.

Either way, he has been an awesome player at Michigan and I will always be rooting for this dude.

Yes of course the staff would say yes to 15 carries per game if that's what it took to get him back. But that would reduce his Heisman chances and first round opportunities.

He could make decent amount in NIL and potentially (no guarantees these days) go higher in draft and get much better NFL deal.
