Young and stupid is fine when it's only you that bears the consequences of your actions.

There is a reason why young drivers pay relatively high premiums and it is called risk aversion.  I get the mindset; many of us who are no longer young once were that age, but none of us have lived through a pandemic.

My concern with kids coming back to campus is the Ann Arbor community having lots of older adults that may end up paying a price for youthful indiscretion.

I agree to some extent.  I don't really see why in-person classes are going on right now or how they're going to continue.

I do think you'd have some problems with students partying on campus even if schools did go completely online.  If I'm 20 years old, have a lease I signed in December 2019 for this year I can't get out of, I'm sure as hell going to say screw it and live on campus in the house/apartment than stay at my parent's house.  I don't see how the university can stop that.

Might be helpful to do a little research on things you can do to minimize your risk of getting sick.  There are actually quite a few things you can do to bolster your body's defense against SARS2.

I'm 50 and I would have no issue walking through crowds on a football Saturday in Ann Arbor even if there were lots of students around not wearing masks.  I already know I've been exposed to it and it doesn't frighten me.  It shouldn't frighten you either.

Pretty sure everyone posting on this board has lived through at least 1 pandemic.

Zika in 15 - 16
Eboal in 13 - 16
MERS in 12 - present
Swine Flue in 09 - 10
Mumps - 2000

Those are the pandemics in the last 20 years.  Epidemics are far more prevalent and the US isn't immune to those either.  We are not living in uncharted territory here.  The only thing uncharted is our understanding of the virus.  We now have an example of a re-infection in Hong Kong.  The virus has already mutated.

It looks like the NYC health department specifically noted this.  See section 4, second bullet.

https://www1.nyc.gov/assets/doh/downloads/pdf/imm/covid-sex-guidance.pdf

"Rimming (mouth on anus) might spread the virus. Virus in feces may enter your mouth and could lead to infection."

Somebody needs to get over there and remove that banner.  Its a clear public health threat.

In all fairness, this is going on all over the country at campuses open in every state. I believe most (not all) college kids get it, but just like any other demographic you’re gonna get a chunk of people who either (a) don’t care or (b) don’t get it or (c) are in denial

They don't believe it for a second.  But they're giving it the old "college try" pun intended knowing that if (when) it doesn't work, the students will have no one to blame but themselves so they'll feel better about collecting tuition and the students probably won't feel bad about paying it since, you know, they didn't exactly heed the advice of, well, anyone.

I'll be honest, I don't really have a huge issue with ~10 people outside. There's a balance between being smart and maintaining your sanity and I don't think this is that absurd. That sign is stupid though

FYI, representatives of that fraternity are saying that:

1. That is not their house.

2. The banner was stolen or is fake.

So maybe some caution is merited before they are thrown under the bus with the kids in the photo.
