Which win has meant the most to you in Michigan's 2012 season so far?

Submitted by WingsNWolverines on
The Wolverines finished 8-4 this season after an impressive 11-2 season last year including a BCS bowl victory. To all of us beating OSU was the biggest W on our 2011 schedule next to ND and VT. This year the Wolverines ended two streaks against teams the Wolverines hadn't beat since the 2006-2007 seasons thus being Iowa and MSU. In your opinion which game to you personally felt like a bigger must win game. Yes its important we win them all because every game is crucial but what game to you has stood out to be as "most important" as a Michigan fan? To me personally it was MSU. I couldn't stomach another loss to those idiots from EL.

and it ain't even close.  Really, Iowa compares to that?  If I had to hear Spartys chirping for ANOTHER year, it would've been ugly.  To such a streak never happening again!

But a loss to Northwestern would have been devastating. If we didn't pull that out in OT, we would be looking at another Gator Bowl trip right now.

was over MSU.

MSU may have finished  6-6 (3-5 Big10), but earlier they were ranked 13th pre-season and after knocking down Boise State, were considered media darlings and a Big Ten favorite alongside Wisconsin.

Of MSU's 6 losses this year, 5 of them were by 4 points or less. Only Notre Dame beat Sparty decisively 20-3, and in East Lansing no less.

MSU's offense was basically mental case this year, ranked 10th in scoring, 9th in YPG (in BIG10).  This is the main reason why it lost 6 games.

Oh, and penalty yards? MSU finished ranked 3rd, same as last year.  They gave up 663 yards.  Way to go Nardoesn'tzzi

  1. MSU - had to end that streak, and not let them beat us more times in a row than they ever had before
  2. Iowa - had a 3 game losing streak, hadn't beaten them in 6 years
  3. Purdue - at 2-2, a lot of people doubted Michigan would do anything, only favored by 3, etc., etc.  Shut up a lot of the critics.  Defense is here.
  4. Illinois - Because shutouts are always good
  5. Minnesota - Little Brown Jug!
  6. Northwestern - Div. game
  7. Air Force - Meh
  8. Massachusetts - Meh

The 2008 Northwestern game was the first game I ever attended at the Big House and it was a disappointment from fan behavior, leaving early, and U-M losing (the weather was also terrible so this is all understandable). Getting to watch U-M win this year was the complete opposite environment and felt redeeming.

but even that game was so damn unsatisfying due to the bleh offensive gameplan.

I was actually ticked off they needed a mini-miracle to beat those clowns.

And the fact that many fans werent even that happy after an MSU win, says everything you need to know about this season.

If you weren't happy after that game, you need to get some perspective.

It was a win over a rival we hadn't beat in 4 years. Not happy? Holy cow. If you were an ND fan you'd probably be depressed right now from all the poor performances they had this season. Give me a break!

If the question were "Which win has meant the most to the TEAM in Michigan's 2012 season so far", the answer with out a doubt should be MSU.  It's a rivalry, and their streak was much longer than it should have been.

However, with the question worded the way it is, the win that meant the most important to ME, was Iowa.  The reason for this is because up until this year, Iowa was the ONLY B1G team I had not seen Michigan beat in person, and I was at the game.  I have now seen Michigan complete the cycle(for a couple more years at least).  I have now witnessed Michigan beat live, Iowa and Nebraska once, OSU twice, Wisconsin 3 times, and the rest of the B1G anywhere from 4-6 times.  I am also from Ohio, so I don't really run into any Sparty fans for that to influence my answer.

I'm just glad we didn't go 0-4 against them while I've been a student. That would have left a bitter taste in my mouth. It stinks that seniors last year had to endure that.

We had 8 equal wins over 8 kinda-equally mediocre/bad teams. The season was disappointing because we didn't win any one of the marquee games. The season was average, IMO.

That said, beating mSu carried the most baggage.

MSU mainly because I was there. It was such a hard faught battle. Both teams had to scrap for every inch and point they got. To see us pull out the win right at the end and rip the hearts out of lil bro was just priceless. Watching Dantonio and Tom Gholston walk off the field with their heads down was awesome too.

but Northwestern was the mist exciting game. Hopefully 8-4 will be the basement for losses in a season under Hoke. I just can't believe how mediocrity has become something people are happy with.

to undervalue a couple wins. Sure, beating Iowa, Minnesota, Purdue, Illinois are not exactly stellar wins, because Michigan was heavily favored (how the hell did Iowa beat MSU, again?). But MSU and Northwestern are actually good...MSU lost a ton of close games by single digits. Northwestern, as hilarious as it was how the collapsed in 3 games, could just as easily be undefeated right now if they didn't give up those comebacks. That win was a pretty big one for Michigan, given the "trap" feel it had to it.

Sure, it sucks to lose those 4 games, but not that long ago Michigan got blown out in those kind of games, and the only one that happened this year was Alabama (before they were really ready for a matchup like that...I wonder if they play them now how much closer of a game it would be). Now, I wanted those other 3 wins as much as the next guy, but sometimes the luck and skill just don't fall your way. ND was much better than anyone could have imagined, Nebraska...well that's what happens when your #1 QB goes down, your #2 QB is a WR that hasn't practiced at QB in weeks, and your #3 QB is a freshman who looks like a deer in teh headlights. Depth issues lost that one. And OSU....Borges, man, I don't know what the hell. Despite those losses all sucking, Michigan was right there in each one. I have faith that this coaching staff can turn more of these close games into wins rather than losses.

Bottom line: Michigan was 2-4 in close games this year. It's disappointing because just one more win was all it could have taken. But, sometimes it just doesn't go your way. I don't think M is too far off of where they should be right now.

I want a bowl victory and our bowl record to be pulled to .500.

That is what would mean most to me this season. I want another bowl victory. A great program like Michigan should not have a losing bowl record.

There isn't much else among the wins that compares to the feeling I had when Gibbons put that FG through with 5 seconds left on the clock. Further, the roar that erupted in Michigan Stadium when Dileo caught the pass that put us withing FG range was quite memorable. For me, between the drama of the last Michigan drive and the ending of a dismal stretch in the Michigan-Michigan State rivalry, that was the most emotionally charged (and by extension, most meaningful) win for me.

Growing up in Lansing, I would not have been able to stomach another year of listening to the belligerent musing of ol slappy.  I barely survived the previous four years; that was by far the biggest game of the year for me. Go Blue!
