What will it take for Alabama to drop out of the Top 5
Alabama loses to an unranked team… yet stays the front runner for “next in the top 4.” They got put in front of other undefeated teams + 1 loss teams whose loss is to a top 10 opponent (ex: PSU, ND, or OSU). Will the system allow other undefeated or 1 loss teams to jump them in line?

A meteor.

I was gonna say, a Marshall type plane crash, heaven forbid.
Still probably get ranked in the top 25

That is in poor taste

Dark humor, it's an acquired taste.

What an asshole

Lots of comments here so someone may have mentioned one surefire way for Alabama to drop out of the top 5:
Whisper "academics" and the Tide will get rolled.
October 11th, 2021 at 4:09 PM ^
It's true that Alabama is not the best school academically, but if anything, their football program's reign of dominance has boosted their academic profile significantly. For one thing, Alabama Football generates a lot more money per capita than it did before Saban, both directly and indirectly (i.e., revenue from licensing, etc). And because Alabama the most dominant program in football, more kids want to go there, which has made admissions a lot more competitive.
As paradoxical as it is, that school is academically better off for having such a dominant football program.
October 11th, 2021 at 4:18 PM ^
I totally stay away from the "academics" stuff anymore as it just seems like a copout when we're not at the same football level as Alabama. Do you really think we don't try to recruit the same players that commit to them ?
October 11th, 2021 at 9:56 AM ^
Nick Saban's head violently exploding during a fake-polite post-game interview with some excessively attractive ESPN model-reporter who thinks "RPO" is a brand of designer luggage?
October 11th, 2021 at 10:03 AM ^
Dude you just wake up throwing out the sexist comment?
October 11th, 2021 at 10:09 AM ^
No, I got coffee first.
October 11th, 2021 at 11:05 AM ^
He didn't say what gender the attractive person was.
October 11th, 2021 at 11:11 AM ^
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
October 11th, 2021 at 10:11 AM ^
Did you happen to catch Maria Taylor's cringeworthy interview with Josh Allen last night? She's trying to play the pop culture reference game and she seems to be doing pretty well, saying that in her notes she said that Chris Pratt would play him in a movie or some shit, which was pretty spot on actually. Then she says something about Captain America, which yeah, is not Chris Pratt but Chris Evans. It was just so stupid and really highlighted the contrived familiarity in these types of pieces, as well as puncturing the image these sideline reporters try to give off of being the girl next door who would watch Avengers with you or whatever the fuck.
October 11th, 2021 at 10:24 AM ^
The network sideline reporter is the most irritatingly useless thing in all of sports, whether male or female. It's like putting a fashion critic on the beaches at Normandy asking the officers if they think their troops' uniforms could be a bit more form-fitting.
October 11th, 2021 at 10:27 AM ^
Agreed. It was kind of refreshing watching Harbaugh totally blow by Molly McGrath on Saturday night
October 11th, 2021 at 10:48 AM ^
I can't imagine blowing Molly McGrath off under any circumstances....
October 11th, 2021 at 11:04 AM ^
Be careful, the sexist police are out today. Next thing you know, some bougie douche in here is gonna call you an incel for finding a woman attractive.
October 11th, 2021 at 12:42 PM ^
Dude, what's hilarious is that it's your post that typifies a typical incel response. But you keep doing good old clueless you.
October 11th, 2021 at 7:40 PM ^
What is truly hilarious -- as you think you know but your really don't know what the definition of the word is... is that your post proved my point for me. LOL!

but sometimes it yielded gold:

Lloyd Carr had one of these too. It's at 0:35 of this video, at halftime of the 2003 OSU/U-M game.

Speaking of game coverage, was anyone else super-annoyed during the game with the 20 minute discussion about a burrito while they kept cutting back to the game when the play was already started?
I was yelling at the TV more about that than I was at the game.
October 12th, 2021 at 6:02 AM ^
Yeah, that was just as annoying as when people post Facebook pictures of what they're having for dinner. Unless you've made me some and are delivering it to my door, I don't give a shit.
October 11th, 2021 at 1:07 PM ^
Followed closely by the multi person pregame show. I don't see how people watch these shows. Don't know why you need so many people on these shows.
October 11th, 2021 at 2:42 PM ^
I keep the remote in hand so I can mute that annoying, valueless drivel. It's as bad as a commercial.
October 11th, 2021 at 10:31 AM ^
It was a 24 minute one-on-one interview. Give her a break. I also mistakingly made the Chris Pratt and Captain America connection in my head for some reason, not really a Marvel fan. Some of you will find any reason to nit pick women.
October 11th, 2021 at 10:47 AM ^
I actually find the female sideline reporters to be much better than the male ones we used to see more of. Before it was some former NFL lineman or some such that seemed like they just rolled in from the pub and would rather be swapping stories about their glory days with the play by play crew than actually doing their job. I think the female reporters who have become more common are much more professional, do the job well, and play a positive role to the overall game day experience. So they sometimes mess up? Sure. Who doesn’t? Are some of the interviews contrived? Yes. But blame that on the producers, not the reporters.
October 11th, 2021 at 12:02 PM ^
You must watch a helluva lot more college football than I do, because I've never seen a single sideline interview that was anything more than the sideline reporter asking obvious and/or dumb questions that didn't illuminate anything.
October 11th, 2021 at 12:08 PM ^
I haven't either, but it seems the goal is more to just fill time/give the commentators something to talk about for an extra 30 seconds or so. It's the same philosophy you see everywhere these days: "It's content, and we know people will consume it."
October 11th, 2021 at 12:34 PM ^
I don't think he ever did college games, but you are perfectly describing Tony Siragusa.
October 11th, 2021 at 1:47 PM ^
He was my head canon for my description.
October 11th, 2021 at 1:16 PM ^
Anybody worse than this guy?

Molly McGrath is beautiful, she's my favorite sideline reporter.
October 11th, 2021 at 9:56 AM ^
Well if any team deserves the benefit of doubt, it's Bama.
October 11th, 2021 at 10:01 AM ^
As much as I hate this answer...you are absolutely correct. Heads up I'd still take Bama against any other team in America. Georgia is probably better this year...but Bama has a video game level track record.
October 11th, 2021 at 11:36 AM ^
This^^^...no doubt there is a lot of Bama bias out there, but it's really hard to argue it isn't deserved. Don't conflate SEC bias with Bama bias. If you can name 3 other teams out there who you would put money on to beat them, I'd be happy to hear it.
October 11th, 2021 at 3:44 PM ^
Closest I can get to "three teams", Georgia at home, Georgia on neutral field, and OSU at one with their pick off the most homer refs, but even then I'm not sure I'd want to put money on it.
October 11th, 2021 at 9:57 AM ^
I think you know the answer to this question - at least another loss. Top 20 teams losing on the road at night to P5 teams just outside of the T25 has happened quite a few times this year. There is SEC bias in this world, but if any team is going to be given the benefit of the doubt (and deserve it to some extent), it's going to be Bama.
October 11th, 2021 at 10:00 AM ^
It's not just SEC bias. I don't think anyone really disagrees Alabama and Georgia are the two best teams right now. It's just one of those years.
October 11th, 2021 at 12:08 PM ^
Yeah. C'mon, Alabama still has a 50% chance to win the national title this year. They are loaded at most positions. Maaaybe this is the year that Georgia eeks them out.
But nobody thinks Iowa or Cincy or someone like that would even stay close to them if they met on the field, and with good reason.
October 11th, 2021 at 12:49 PM ^
Football games, like hockey games, are also subject to the plinko effect.
October 11th, 2021 at 9:57 AM ^
If Michigan, MSU, OSU or PSU win out they will jump past Bama.
October 11th, 2021 at 10:40 AM ^
A one loss PSU isnt jumping a one loss Bama. Not happening. Just beating Iowa isnt going to get you over just beat Georgia.
October 11th, 2021 at 12:05 PM ^
If PSU beats an undefeated MSU & Michigan plus a 1 loss OSU and their only loss is to an undefeated Iowa…they will jump Bama rather easily!
October 11th, 2021 at 8:46 PM ^
God I hope this plays out. There is no way in hell at seasons end Bama walks off the field after beating Georgia and the next day they are ranked behind PSU. Maybe if we are talking 2nd 3rd place for better matchups... maybe. Otherwise that isnt happening there isnt a team you can beat in the big ten that gets you more credit than being Bama and beating Georgia.
EDIT** I DO NOT HOPE THIS PLAYS OUT ACTUALLY. lol
October 11th, 2021 at 9:58 AM ^
Probably a thumping by Georgia in the SEC championship game is about the only thing that could do it.
I'm as sick of Alabama as anyone, but they outgained A&M by a margin of 522-379 and lost on a field goal at the last second on the road. Plus, is there really anyone ranked below them that you'd pick over Alabama on a neutral field?
October 11th, 2021 at 12:52 PM ^
It's going to be painful when an undefeated Cincy team is totally left out of the playoffs.
