What was Sam Webb's News?

Submitted by WestQuad on

Sam Webb teased that he had some big breaking news this morning, but then said there was some red tape that had to be cleared before he could announce it and that it might not be till after the show.   Did he announce it?   What do people think it will be?   New RB coach?  New Hockey coach?   Player commitment?    Wild speculation accepted.

the team will train on the Moon and Elon Musk is the coaching staff addition as the Astrophysics Assistant.  Zero gravity training will give them a huge edge plus the entire team will grow 2-3 inches for a big heaight advantage.

If I'm picking up what the Scout guys are putting down (Sam Webb, Allen Trieu).  They are saying that Harbaugh will shuffle a current staff member to RB coach and bring in another new coach who they say is a great hire and a well known name.   IN HARBAUGH WE TRUST

Im not impressed with this Frey guy. Indiana has been somewhat competitive as they always land in the middle to the lower end of the conference. Truthfully, I havent seen anything worth celebrating. I think Les Miles would be a helluva hire because he loves his alma mater, his record shows he can coach, he's won a Natty, he's beat Saban and he can recruit his ass off I bet Les Miles could have found more looks to use Peppers in. Les would be a great hire.

If its not Les, it should be someone who has had great success as a RB or as a RB coach. Our RB's are too talented to have a novice or someone who's specialty is another position coaching them. They deserve a specialist because a few of these guys have All American/ future NFL player written all over them. Not hiring a specialist could impact their development in a negative way.

A Frey coached O-Line helped IU RBs gash us for over 300 yards in 2015 and helped their QB go 14 of 30 for 191 yards in that ugly game vs IU last season.

In 2015, IU had the 4th best scoring offense in the conference and the 2nd best total offense.

Their scoring offense dropped down to 9th (due in part to lack of a run threat with Jordan Howard being gone) in 2016 but their total offense was 3rd. Where they fell off in rushing the football, they made up in passing the football. They had the second best pass offense in the conference last season.

NONE of that is possible without an effective O-Line. Conversely, in 2015 we had the 7th best scoring offense and 9th best total offense. Last season, our scoring offense was tops but our total offense was just under IU's. We had the 7th best passing offense. Our rushing offense was second only to osu's and I can't see a Greg Frey hire making that worse, especially with the talent we have in the backfield. It certainly won't hurt the passing game.

Personally, I think it's a home run hire assuming he's actually coming here.

I think Michigan is taking the team to Europe for spring practice.  Perhaps in an attempt to say "hey this isn't about recruiting after all"?  Again I am wildly speculating based on 3 things - a previous post from umbig11 in another thread and tweets from MGoBlog and Nick Baumgartner.

  1. this is less of a hypothetical than you think

  2. I didn't choose the word "Europe" for my health.
