What do you want to see from the spring game?

Submitted by ThadMattasagoblin on

Obviously number one on anyone's list is no injuries but I like that Harbaugh has gone live with everyone as there is no two hand touch in the fall. After that, I'm going to go with

1. quarterbacks connecting with receivers. As long as JOK and Speight don't look like Sheridan and Threet, I'll be pleased since I think we can be very good even with a game managing qb.

2. Wide receiver depth. Will Drake Harris finally emerge? Will Ahmir Mitchell play well for a freshman?

3. Will Tyrone Wheatley JR live up to his spring hype?

4. Jabrill Peppers at LB. I'm guessing this gets shelved until the season so nobody gets ae on it.

5. Offensive line getting push. We have a great DL even though we're without Glasgow and Gary so as long as we're not getting stoned on every run and get some good runs I'll be encouraged.

6. A reasonably full stadium. With colder weather, M14 construction, being on a weekday etc. I think that it will be very sparsely populated. We probably won't get 60K again this year but hopefully we don't have a completely empty stadium for recruits.

Any others?

no injuries.

aside from staying healthy, id really love to see several of the 2nd OL group play well - kugler, dawson, bushell-beatty, ulizio, runyan, etc, dont really care who, they just need to find another 2-3 guys capable of playing.  i think bredeson will play this fall regardless but itd be nice to see real growth from that 2nd OL.

also really hoping dymonte thomas picks up where he left off last year and continues to progress into solid playmaker

Happen to have the day off Friday so I am planning on going. Interested to see how the QBs look.

5 things: 1. Mason Cole managing well at center, snapping, and getting the line together on calls and picking up blitzes. 2. LB's playing well. Specifically would like to see at least every LB make a quality play or two (or three) but just show that they are capable. 3. Some fierce battles between the wideouts and the secondary. 4. Jabrill being Jabrill. 5. Four or five commits would be great. Maybe Ruiz, Singleton, Lenoir, Malone-Hatcher and maybe even DPJ...we can only hope. Go Blue

even though it's just the spring game, it would be nice having someone (either O'Korn or Speight) have a really impressive day.  Sorry but I can't see any possible way that Morris is in this mix ... he's already had 2 years of trying and he's never been able to show good decision making.

Solid QB play will make this team competitive with anyone they play !

NO INJURIES. That is all.

If the offense looks real good, MGoFolks will panic about the defense. If the offense sucks, apologists will break out the tired refrain about "the defense is always ahead of the offense early in the year." No matter what happens, we are all certain to over analyze and worry. Such is the life of a fanatical fanbase. Everyone will be like...

No injuries is a prerequisite.

After that, I don't think we'll see stellar play from the OL because it won't be the cohesive 1's and 2's together.  But if they can at least manage a decent game, I'll be happy with it overall.  I'd really like to see a balanced game, with both offense and defense showing some playmaking ability.  The D making it hard for the O to sustain drives, but the O doing it sometimes, anyway.

With limited packages on both sides, and (no doubt) some cautionary words about hitting, I'll settle for a good, balanced game that isn't an easy win for either team.

Speaking as someone who has been to 14 spring games at the big house, I can probably count on one hand the number of truly exciting plays that were memorable. It would be wise not to take too much from whatever happens Friday. Some of Michigan's best players have had horrid spring games over the years and unknowns have looked like team MVP's. I specifically remember thinking Mister Simpson would go on to become a Michigan legend. Lesson learned. Then there's the usual tradition of half the team not being able to participate because of injuries, which made the last four spring games of the Lloyd Carr years boring as hell. I suspect that this year will be the same as the last seven years. Game play at the spring game will be underwhelming, not very noteworthy. And as a result, MGoBlog will freak the hell out. That's just the way we fly.

1) NO INJURIES. Everything else is secondary.

2) I'd like to see the QBs on point with the receivers. Chesson and Darboh were making gong strides, especially Chesson, towards the end of the season. Part of continuing that momentum is having the QB be on the same page as they are.

2) Would love to see the OL and RB play pick up where it left off. I don't expect them to have a ton of success against the DL, but ideally I'd like to see a give and take battle between both lines. The OL guys have been starting and playing together for a while now. Hopefully it all starts coming together this Fall.

3) LB play. How good do Peppers and Bush look, specifically? I know there will be growing pains at this position, but we've got two darn good athletes at that position now so I'm hoping they look comfortable tomorrow.

4) No injuries. Again, please, dear 8 lb 6 oz baby Jesus, no injuries.
