Optimism Attache

Now, THIS is why I made the TWIS prediction thread. Disappointed that almost nobody participated. We gotta be able to laugh about it after that cosmic misfortune if we are going to survive as lifelong sports fans.

All things considered, factoring the god given right to freak the fuck out after such a dong punch... That wasn't all that bad. I think that's because compared to the other fan bases featured, around here there's obvious reason for optimism.

If I can't get a meteor, I'd hope OSU annihilates MSU into oblivion.

1) I at least respect OSU, and you can tell Meyer respects Michigan to at least some degree. I have no respect for Mark Dantonio, his team of hooligans, or a fanbase that completely epitomizes everything it means to be a little brother.

2) I have a mentality with OSU of "nobody kills you but me." I hope they come into Ann Arbor undefeated with a chance for our team to have the honor of ruining their season.

Wow I made TWIS.  Badge of honor or eternal shame?

Those refs were horrible blind motherfuckers. Each one is a remedial posterchild of ineptitude on a scale unknown to mankind. Idiot dolts called out penalties on Michigan when it was the guy in white #4 who they meant. Getting a TD wrong 3 times in a fuckin row, targeting on a kid who was clearly pushed down and a whole host of other bullshit makes me want to ask the B1G wtf the qualifications are to hire these clowns.

Seriously I'm waiting for one ref to ride a midget tricycle and 2 others to tool around the fuckin field in a short bus with a monnkey in tow.

The level of ineptitude was only matched by the amount of interference their bullshit overlayed on the game and destroyed momentum on both sides. This crew of fuckers must have had money on their fan duel picks because NOBODY can be as fucking horrible as the shit we saw today.

Everyone Murders

A year ago, two years ago, and well before then TWIS was a family snapshot album that I could go to week after week and catch up on the zeitgeist of Michigan football fandom.  "Hey, it's just me, EM - checking in."

Now, it's more like returning to the scene of a car wreck that I'd not seen in a while.  Or the feeling of a gymnast who is normally spot-on uncharacteristically slipping up on the parallel bars because of some wet talcum powder on the apparatus.  Or playing 2-under through nine and whiffing on the tee of the 10th because you sneezed.

It sucks, sure.  But it's not "the usual" this year.  So I've got no problem with this TWIS.

We definitely did alright for TWIS, even above and beyond what was in the article - as we know, we get just the right mix of rage, depression and intellect.

The folks over at Red Cup Rebellion were doing OK too though after loss to Memphis:

Can I get a D! D!

Can I get an E! E!

Can I get an F! F!

Can I get an E! E!

Can I get an N! N!

Can I get an S! S!

Can I get an E! E!

What does it spell?!

Give up on life"

Given some of the at times cringeworthy emo stuff about fathers and sons, about seeing the bright side in life and shit, about how caring just hurts too much, I thought that our selection did not fully reflect the state of meltdown this board was in Saturday night.

Why do PSU fans expect a National Championship caliber team? You lost many scholarships because your coach covered up child rape. You should still be on the death penalty. After all, SMU players only allegedly killed five hookers, who were supposedly not minors.

but you'll have to settle for an app +1. It's as if they fail to realize that their football team had anything to do with mass child rape. Like "why should we pay for that?" when it was their entire football staff, AD and University covering it up. Hey, psu fans, should you be penalized if you buy recruits? Yes? Ok. How about pay officials? Absolutely? Ok. Coaches hide the rape of children by a staff member...allowing him to keep raping? No? Let's start over. Etc. They don't get it.

You know how in the midst of the sickness of grief you can sometimes find something that makes you crack up, and which momentarily lets you escape those bad feelings? Last summer, my sister called off her wedding and was a basket case, understandably. I flew her out to be with us for a bit, and one day, while riding in the car, we passed a David's Bridal. I slammed on the brakes and said, "did you need something from there? What, too soon?" She stopped crying and we both laughed hysterically.

I realize the comparison is a bit strained, but thank you, UMproud, all the same. The image of that ass hat ref riding a tiny tricycle around the Big House made me laugh, and I actually feel a little better.

I think Brian calling the refs "Space Dumbasses" on the podcast should definitely have made TWIS. Priceless. There's no worse dumbass than a space dumbass.

I think the reactions were so tame is because it was just so shocking that nobody knew what to say. During the horor we had been losing since the 2nd quarter so when the final play happened I was just instantly filled with rage.

The thing is our season is still much alive after last week while after the horror it was pretty much down the toilet.

I'm sure our rival fan bases enjoyed the finish of "Wolverine jubilee," but yes, we got off pretty easy compared to most others after a loss.

Did he usually include big underdogs who lost? I don't recall that, but don't have time to go back through all his old ones. Just curious, because not sure why Nanni bothered with Penn State. They were a 17 point underdog who lost. I do recall Brian giving them a pass for all of 2012 because of the sanctions.

The suggestion to give the younger quarterbacks an opportunity to play a bit.

Could Shane possibly be worse than Rudock?  I will suggest that Shane might have hit at least 30% and perhaps 50% of those wide open deep receivers.

So he has a few other fuckups.........any more than JakeR?
