Wednesday NFL Draft Discussion Thread / Scouts Inc. Michigan players predictions
ESPN inSIDER for entire 7-round mock draft: http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft2013/story/_/id/9202096/2013-nfl-draft-scouts-inc-complete-seven-round-mock-draft
Michigan players:
Round 6
13 (181) | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Denard Robinson, WR, Michigan |
I'm no draft expert, but there is NO way Denard goes in the 6th frickin round. Also, Campbell is one of the top sleeper picks of the draft.
I'm a homer, but I even feel Kovacs and Demens will go in the 7th round.

Hate to say it guys but I kinda agree with ESPN on this one. You have a player switching positions who just happens to have a severely damaged elbow that shows no signs on healing on it's own (thank you Detroit Tigers). This means surgery and Ulnar nerve surgery is no "sure thing" by any means which is one reason why I think he's put off having it and hoping time and rest will heal the nerve. And so far it hasnt.
Denard is probably perceived as damaged goods and when you add in he's trying to make a team at a position he's never played before I would say his draft status is not that high right now.
Unfortunately.
so he is healing...
Yea unfortuately I agree. Obviously the NFL guys know more than I do, but I went to Gibralter Sunday because Denard was signing and he couldnt even take the cap off of the sharpie...I just don't see any value he can add to a team unless they know he can use that hand
That 2 catches for 21 yards in the Senior Bowl was electric....
Unfortunately, I think you're right. Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal has him rated the 24th WR in the draft, and McGinn has super contacts with NFL scouts, who share their evaluations with him. Denard's so far down that he doesn't get a write up. It only takes one, obviously, but I wouldn't be surprised if he falls all the way to the 6th round.
Here are McGinn's WR evals...

Best candidate to land Denard is the Eagles I would think with Chip Kelly's spread offense and whatnot

I would not be surprised to see Denard go in the late 2nd/early 3rd. With the athleticism and skill he has with the ball in his hands in open space and the potential to play multiple positions in an offense, all it takes is one team that really wants him to jump the gun so that they don't miss him. See: Tim Tebow taken in the first round

Who knows. I remember thinking how in the world Hemingway and Molk didn't get picked up until late in the 7th round.
to either the Eagles or the Pats...I hope he ends up in Detroit, but he would have to fall all the way to the 6th round in order for that to happen, and i do not see that happening given how dangerous he can and will be in the NFL
As much as I love both Denard and the Lions, no way should he play here. He deserves to go to a legit team with a stable culture and a good opportunity to contribute.
edit: how the hell is this flamebait? Unless it's from a kool-aid sippin Lions slappy
5th Round Baby (aka The money round) (aka the round in which the best player in NFL history will be taken) (aka Denard will be that player who was picked in the fifth round, which in turn made the 5th round of this draft forever known as "the round in which the best player in NFL history was taken")
I see Denard in the 4th with a chance of getting reached for in the 3rd or slipping to the 5th. As for the rest, someone may take a 6th or 7th round flier on Campbell, but I'm not holding my breath for anyone else.
Im on the same boat with you. I think some peoples expectations are a little high about this draft. I do see a couple guys getting on an NFL roster like Kovacs and Omameh.
It does feel strange that Michigan doesn't have any big hype players in this draft. It'll be nice in a couple years when we are slinging first rounders :)
Man, those recruiting classes look brutal now.
Denard has a shot with about 3 teams before the fourth round, in my opinion. I think we are overrating his stock a bit around here.
Gallon I would say has a pretty nice shot at a successful NFL career. As far as Fitz, I'd say he's a practice squad guy. Schofield has a nice chance. Cam Gordon's future depends almost entirely on this year.
although I predict someone will pick him surprisingly high a la Tebow to the Broncos, all other comparisons to that mess aside. I could see the Patriots doing this, but could also see him in an Eagles uniform running some of Chip Kelly's Lamarcus James/De'Anthony Thomas-type plays. I hope he doesn't go to the Bucs, although not sure exactly why. Doesn't seem like a good fit.
Walter football also has Denard going in the 6th round - last pick of the round to the Steelers. http://walterfootball.com/draft2013_6.php
In other news, Walter Football projects Taylor Lewan to go #13 in the 2014 draft, lol.
Looking at it from the least homer aspect possible, it makes sense for him to fall even if he has a third round grade. Position switch and ulnar nerve are one thing but also what game film do you have to look at for him at WR? Most of the game footage of him catching the ball isn't too convincing to say "this guy is an NFL wide receiver"
On the other hand you have a proven leader with a great attitude which always gets overlooked in evaluations by "experts" but not by coaches, an explosive runner with elite speed, and a guy who has looked incredibly improved catching the ball.
I'm still guessing fourth round.
I think the last couple of years every single one of our graduating scholarship seniors got them. I wouldn't be surprised to see Kovacs make a roster.
1) I don't have the requistie # of point to post: A piece on former team captain and draft hopeful, Jordan Kovacs: http://www.mlive.com/wolverines/index.ssf/2013/04/from_puking_in_a_campus_trash.html
(I searched and did not find it posted on the MGoBoard.)
2) I think Jordan is a late-round flier or will sign on with a team right after the draft. After all he's been through and everything he's accomplished, I think it's almost fitting that he might land in the NFL the same way. And hopefully, it ends the same way too.
You got fourteen instead of seven because apparently I don't understand calanders or the ability to edit point awards. Seven expire on 4/30, the other seven expire on the non-existant 4/31, so I don't know what kind of Bermuda Triangle magic will go on with that.
Thanks!
In regards to the Lions, I really do not like drafting Jordon or Ansah that high and I am worried about Miliner's injury history.
If Fisher doesn't fall to 5 (which is looking increasingly unlikely) I would be really happy to see us trade back to somewhere in the mid to late 20s and take Werner from FSU and get an additional 2nd rd pick plus a 3rd-5th rounder (I am not sure what the value of the 5th pick would be exactly, but I imagine swapping 1's, and getting a 2nd and 4th would be reasonable).
As someone who has followed the NFL draft for awhile, but is admittedly not an expert, this class seems to be lacking top notch talent. I think this is the ideal draft to accumulate mid-round picks and get a lot of solid, value-pick type of guys versus trying to snag that one guy you really want.
Here's how CBS Sports projects Michigan players:
RANK | PLAYER | POS. | POS. RANK | PROJ. ROUND |
192 | Denard Robinson | WR | 23 | 6 |
333 | Craig Roh | DE | 26 | 7-FA |
419 | Patrick Omameh | OG | 24 | –– |
445 | William Campbell | DT | 33 | –– |
471 | Kenny Demens | ILB | 20 | –– |
661 | Jordan Kovacs | SS | 27 | –– |
681 | Roy Roundtree | WR | 88 | –– |
792 | J.T. Floyd | CB | 78 | –– |
910 | Ricky Barnum | OG | 50 | –– |
Denard's NFL.com draft profile (HERE), and half the profiles that I can find, compare him to Antwaan Randle El. Other profiles on different sites seem to believe that Denard Robinson could go as high as the second round, but in my unscientific summary survey of draft sites, slightly more seem to go with fourth or later.
I made a negative prediction about Michigan (possible first round exit in NCAA tournament), I was proven wrong, so I have no qualms saying I could see Denard even being a free agent, just because of the lingering injury and position switch, as well as a not impressive senior season which he missed half of.

Unless it is the Eagles! I could see Chip Kelly making a reach for Denard. If he ends up in Detroit (6th or 7th) -- we are talking some serious speed on the field all at once (Megatron, D Rob and Reggie Bush). That works!
Fischer will be gone before 5. Heck i think Johnson will be gone at 4.
If Lane Johnson is there at 5, take him.
A ton of d ends their at bottom of round 1/ early 2
can always trade back into round 1
If possible, i'd like the lions to take Johnson at 5, and Tank Carredine if he is there at 36.
Denard 5-6th round range
Campbell maybe in the 7th
Roh, Demens, Kovac -- camp invites
Stay away from Ansah !
if your guy is not their, trade back, trade back multiple times if you have to.
I like Womack also, but not at pick 5 overall,
The 6th round worked out ok for the last Michigan QB to be taken in it...
but said months ago he might not be drafted. from some of the comments here, there appear to be some 'in the know' scout types that agree. want to be wrong, but he's still injured and as great as he is, he's switching positions.
