UofM is one of the hottest schools in the country
InsideCollege released their list of the hottest colleges in the country. It's not detailed like US News & World Report, but it's always cool to get the love.

Don't strain your eyes looking for schools in west hell or south hell. They're not listed.

Why does the app state loss hurt hurt hurt so much? i mean they were Defending national champions, the toledo loss that hurt hurt hurt
February 28th, 2012 at 4:06 PM ^
Michigan was ranked in the top 5 with national title hopes when The Horror happened, while Michigan was projected as a 6-6 team at best when the Toledo game happened.
February 28th, 2012 at 8:46 PM ^
than to be projected to suck in the first place? Is that whats obvious? I would take option 1 because after the loss to crap state we managed to pull off an ok season
February 28th, 2012 at 4:20 PM ^
That was the first game out of the gate my senior year in the band, so that really sucked. The first game is also very emotional because we've been busting our butts in the blazing sun on what used to the the broiling blacktop of elbel for two weeks, so I, at least, feel super invested in that first game.

Also, the national media attention. Being a Top 5 program losing to a division 2 team hurt. ESPN, one's rivals, and one's critics don't generally consider context, do investigative reporting, or think rationally so explaining to them that App St dominated Division 2 and is better than many Division 1 teams really doesn't work. Analyzing upsets in that year, the USC loss to Stanford is actually probably a bigger upset but the stigma of Division 1 and 2 prevents us from overcomming that fact. Also, it really fricking sucked.
February 28th, 2012 at 9:52 PM ^
Um, Appalachian State isn't a Division II team, and wasn't back when Michigan played them either.

Both my schools (Michigan & Boston University) are among the hottest in the nation!
By the way, Boston College wouldn't be on here if the people writing this article had to live anywhere near it, or spend any time with people who go there.
February 28th, 2012 at 3:41 PM ^
Since you don't feel the same way about Boston University, it can't be a local population cause. Could it be arrogance if I dare use the term? I've never been around either, just curious.

BC kids often remind me of stereotypical MSU kids. The BU kids are annoying in their own respect, especially the undergrads, but it's not to the same degree. It's definitely not arrogance, because I hold no real emotional ties to BU - it was a means to an end, and my heart belongs to Michigan (along with my lovely wife, who happens to read this blog).
When I used to smoke, I would sit on the porch and watch the BC kids loudly tromping home at 2 AM in what I can only term a "Bro-cessional" or a "Bro-torcade." The sheer quantity of dudes in sweatpants, track jackets and backwards ball caps I see on a Saturday morning at the Eagle deli would make you scream, "Sparty no!"

Frankly, I don't have a real good impression of New Englanders in general, but I admit it's a fairly small sample and unfair.
I'm not sure about Pennsylvanians either after a recent business encounter. I lunched with two business associates in the Pittsburgh area that I had just met. We knew little of each other except our businesses & home bases, them PA, me MI. We spoke of several pro quarterbacks & their relative success in the pros vs lack of same in college. They were of course big Ben Rothlesburger fans. Tom Brady's name naturally came up and they both ragged on him as overrated, slow and wouldn't be shit without the teams he was on, not knowing my connection. I spoke of his competition at UM with Brian G. & Drew H. & the old story of that making him a better qb. One of them said Brady was "such an asshole." I kept my cool, but I don't see us doing much business with them in the near future.

New Englanders get a bit of a bad rap, because they're very slow to be friendly. There are those who revel in the fact that they're "Massholes," but most of them just mind their business and want you to mind yours.
Good folks once you get to know 'em, though. If you ever get the chance.
I'm from the Midwest, though, so I'm pretty much an open book.

Rothlesberger is not (an a__hole)? I think some number of various types of persons would beg to differ.

It's that damn Hansel! He's so hot right now!

Greatest movie ever.
As soon as I reach 100 posts, which is like 4 or 5 posts from this one, I am planning on coming back to your post on this thread just for the sole reason of +1.

FWIW Michigan is also their #1 Public Ivy college
If you click on their analysis of Michigan, you'll see we are also apparently a College with Strength in Cycling.
Oh, and Michigan also operates on trimesters.

Oh, and Michigan also operates on trimesters.
So did my wife...Twice!
February 28th, 2012 at 7:16 PM ^
Except they really don't operate on trimesters, I think it's dumb when it's listed that way. You have two semesters, plus summer classes. Spring and Summer term shouldn't count as an actual term, I'm sure most schools don't think of it that way.

ND and Ohio made the list for highest percentage of men, thus one possible explaination for their pent up anger, while MSU made the elite list of Top 10 slacker schools.
February 28th, 2012 at 6:29 PM ^
Who's have thunk that Brown, Duke, Emory, Georgetown, NYU, Michigan, Souther Cal, Vandy and Yale would be popular with high school students applying to college?
