Uga - Georgia's Mascot
Many MGoMembers are dog owners and dog lovers and thought there may be interest in a thread on our opponent Georgia's adorable mascot Uga.
Uga is the perennial name of the University of Georgia mascot. Uga is a white English bulldog that was named the best college mascot in 2019 by https://www.si.com/college/2019/08/12/best-college-football-mascots-rankings Sports Illustrated.

Uga is a pale imitation of Yale's Handsome Dan, the first mascot in college football. Unlike Uga, Dan hates the color red.

My personal favorite are the vehicles - the Ramblin' Wreck, the Sooner Schooner, the Boiler Maker Special, and Army used to have a tank but i think they've gotten rid of it.

There should be a bet between the governors of Michigan and Georgia. Georgia loses, we put a Michigan shirt on Uga. Georgia wins, they get Murder Wolf for a week to do their bidding.

Uga lives in Savannah. I was doing a project down there and staying around the corner from him on Forsythe Park. It was pretty cool to see him out for a walk. No fanfare or anything, just a man and his dog.

Yeah, lets compare live mascots and let 'em go... A wolverine that steals fish from grizzly bears vs Uga ('I get walked on a lead') the bulldog.

I think I read an article about how Uga has been bred to be cute and so basically needs to be carried everywhere. Yale had similar problems with their mascot and so they crossbred their bulldog to be more athletic, and so it goes running to let off steam at halftime, which is something Uga is literally physically incapable of doing.
So even tho we don't have a mascot, ours is better.

Agree. Its essentially impossible for that breed to give birth naturally. They are all c-sectioned by veterinarians.

No matter how intense the upcoming game may be, it's hard to not like a dog mascot. I had a collie as a kid, and a Sheltie as an adult, so Texas A&M's mascot Reveille is a favorite of mine.
I had two uncles who both had English bullddogs, and what I learned from both uncles is that bulldogs are a bit of a mess. Conversation starters, yes; neat, trim, and overall-healthy, no. I don't think either dog made it 8 years. Still, all dogs are wonderful, so there's that.

Buddy of mine played QB for southern Illinois. That’s the reason I know that dog is called a saluki, otherwise I wouldn’t have a clue.

I think "Bulldogs" is the most popular college team name, with "Wildcats" behind that.
When I lived in North Carolina, there was a high school team called "The Imps." I always thought that ... odd.

In FBS, there are 5 teams with Tigers as the mascot, and 4 each with Bulldogs and Wildcats. In all of DIV1 football, there are 11 each of Tigers and Bulldogs and 10 with Wildcats. I’m not sure what the breakdown is for DIV1 basketball.
