TomVH Tweets About MI Contacting IL Commit OL Pat Flavin
January 16th, 2011 at 8:41 PM ^
Flavin actually missed the call, but plans on calling back. He's very interested in Michigan, or at least was earlier in the process

Is it frowned upon to go after recruits that were "commited" or thinking about commiting to a school that a head coach just left?
I was reading when Les was under consideration for the HC position that LSU was 'maybe' waiving the buyout in return for him leaving the LSU commits as is? I also read that the buyout waive was completely false but maybe the recruiting process was true.
I would have to think the recruits are up for grabs until they sign the dotted line, i was just wondering how SDSU HC now, a former Hoke assistant, would feel if BH took some SDSU commits or possible commits with him to Ann Arbor...
Thanks in advance!

but given the fact SDSU offered and he chose to stay close to home (Illinois) opens the door to at least a phone call now that Hoke is in MI. if the recruit only selected Zook due to the geography, that this item has changed opens the door for such a call.
January 16th, 2011 at 11:11 PM ^
the guys that are committed to SDSU, Hoke isn't 'permitted' to go after or are they fair game?
January 16th, 2011 at 11:19 PM ^
If a guy hasn't signed an LOI, and it's an open recruiting period, you can call him if you want. However, if he's made his position clear, calling all day and night won't do anything but annoy him.
Basically, any recruit is fair game before they sign their LOI, unless they specifically say, "DO NOT CONTACT ME". Some coaches whine and moan about it, (Snake Oil!) but there's nothing "wrong" about it.

approves.

Jake Miller opening up his recruitment?
January 16th, 2011 at 8:44 PM ^
Jack Miller is an interior OL. Flavin is a tackle. Also, Jack Miller is firm with his commitment. I'm only assuming you mean Jake Fisher
January 16th, 2011 at 9:06 PM ^
You're correct DG - my apologies....
January 16th, 2011 at 8:44 PM ^
Fisher opened his recruitment. Miller's solid, I believe.
edit: too slow
January 16th, 2011 at 8:45 PM ^
Are you sure you don't mean Jake Fisher (or Tony Posada)? Jake Miller has said he is solid.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:44 PM ^
This is hilarious. Miami (NTM) is going to have a more shiny class than us. Recruiting must not be the Hokes forte.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:45 PM ^
Are you serious? He's had the job for four days.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:52 PM ^
And what an eventful four days it has been. Massive amount of decommits. It's hilarious. People like Brady Hoke despite every piece of evidence against him. Damn fine speech though. LOL
January 16th, 2011 at 8:55 PM ^
You honestly believe those decommits were because of Hoke? Shit...
January 16th, 2011 at 9:04 PM ^
Who else do you think it was because of?
January 16th, 2011 at 9:06 PM ^
Umm because Hoke didn't recruit them?
January 16th, 2011 at 9:11 PM ^
Don't waste your time. He's become the same insufferable prick that he was railing against 3 months ago.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:36 PM ^
I agree. If he is a Michigan fan he will snap out of this douschery he is in at the moment and be more bearable.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:53 PM ^
I don't care for him myself, but isn't this the pot calling the kettle black? just saying
/s
January 16th, 2011 at 9:11 PM ^
That isn't even an answer to the question. Nice recruiting class we have coming in. Bang up job all around.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:16 PM ^
Brian, you should FuManBlue the crap out of this guy, if you know what I mean :)
January 16th, 2011 at 9:47 PM ^
Not sure Brian would be interested in banning someone who has racked up 16K mgopoints b/c he/she is slamming Hoke...in fact, who's to say it isn't Brian incognito?
January 16th, 2011 at 10:37 PM ^
Whether Brian agrees with him or not, the judicial system should be impartial.
January 16th, 2011 at 10:02 PM ^
I'm pretty sure Dude agrees with everything Brian says and forcefeeds it down every other poster's throat. Not sure why Brian would mind that.
January 16th, 2011 at 10:07 PM ^
It's feeding frenzy time. I love cannibalizing members of the 10,000 point club.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:18 PM ^
And it was that good before Hoke got the job? Pump your brakes man. You can be pissed about how certain things went down, but this recruiting class and the last 4 days aren't Hoke's fault.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:41 PM ^
+1 for The Refused reference...
January 16th, 2011 at 9:22 PM ^
That doesn't even make sense. Are you high?
January 16th, 2011 at 9:28 PM ^
Didn't like Les Miles, spent a week railing on him.
Doesn't like Brady Hoke, now spending the foreseeable future railing on him.
Is there any coach His Dudeness actually likes?
January 16th, 2011 at 9:30 PM ^
Richard A. Rodriguez
January 16th, 2011 at 9:30 PM ^
Wild guess.
January 17th, 2011 at 8:02 AM ^
The Dudeness likes The Dudeness. Amirite? Amirite?
January 16th, 2011 at 9:41 PM ^
What happened to make you all of a sudden become nutty? It started when you were on your mission against Magnus a while back, and hasn't really stopped since.
Drug problems? Girlfriend stopped putting out? IBS? What could it be?!?
January 16th, 2011 at 9:47 PM ^
Having IBS must be really shitty.

Now where did I put my Gas-X/Imodium cocktail?
January 16th, 2011 at 11:26 PM ^
Does anyone else here feel like his dudeness should change his avatar... considering that Chuck Woodson loves the new hire and it seems that his dudeness does not like it.
January 16th, 2011 at 11:27 PM ^
Alright His Dudeness, I feel like I need to intervene. I want you to know that I was among RR's fiercest defenders and have been for quite some time. I'm all heart and was nothing short of devastated when he was officially let go; the coaching search undoubtedly took an emotional toll on me. I was angry, sad, upset, listless--you name it--and it admittedly took me a couple days to warm up to the Hoke hire. I even had to overcome a tremendous sense of guilt that I wasn't excited enough about the Hoke hire--I needed confirmation from my fellow M diehard friends that I wasn't a bad fan.
Look, I don't think DB handled this in the greatest way possible and we'll always have questions about "the process" (one which I very much did NOT respect) but I promise you this much: it's going to be okay. We may not know exactly what our offense will look like, how Denard will fit into it and what our recruiting class will ultimately end up looking like--but it's giong to be okay. Hoke loves this school and this program and our players do, too. The recruits who do end up at Michigan will be here because they choose to, and will be rewarded for their choice because Michigan's an amazing place. I'm going to root like hell for whatever school RR ends up at and unabashedly so, but for now, join me in leaving the ledge for safer grounds. It's not comfortable by any stretch of the imagination, but it's safe. I promise. Onward and upward.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:14 PM ^
perhaps the decommit's lie more on DB's general timing in the CC than the particular coach he's brought in at this point. Now if more decommits happen at the end of this week or after that, then it's probably more on Hoke's shoulder. I think it's too early to lay it at his feet right now.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:17 PM ^
OK Dudeness - 6 months ago you were one of the better posters, maybe even borderline cool. Since this whole CC situation, you've turned into this super negative Hoke-hater just because you were so pro-RR that anyone who would have come in you would hate. It seems like you want him to fail just so you can be right.
Yes, Dallas Crawford decommitted. Yes the kicker did too. Maybe Jake Fisher will, but maybe not.
Also maybe - we get an OT (Pat Flavin) who is a wash with Fisher. Or we get both. Also maybe - we get a CB better than Dallas to take his place. Also also maybe - with Hoke as the coach, we come within 7 touchdowns of beating a top-half Big Ten team.
You've had way too much Haterade. Maybe you don't love love Hoke, but if you love Michigan, support him and hope for the best.
January 16th, 2011 at 11:52 PM ^
Nope, at this point it looks like +23
edit: +32
January 16th, 2011 at 10:52 PM ^
Couldn't say it better myself (now I have Meatloaf running through my head).
Even more impressive if you can remember what he was like 6 months ago -- I have to admit that I really only read the posts, and don't associate them with a specific poster.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:24 PM ^
You have had nothing but negative things to say about Hoke since he was hired. Give the man a chance! I'm sure he'll have a decent class by the time signing day comes around.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:55 PM ^
These recruits have no prior relationship with him. What did you expect? And Crawford's still the only decommit based upon the loss of RR. Fisher hasn't decommitted, simply weighing his options. Goudis made it clear he wanted to go to Miami no matter what.
Your bias is bad enough but the fact that you're making up facts to justify it is even worse.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:58 PM ^
Technically, yes, Fisher has decommitted. He is still considering Michigan in his final group, but would no longer be considered a Michigan commit.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:01 PM ^
You're right. But all signs point to him likely choosing UM in the end. It's not as if Hoke scared him away, like HD is suggesting.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:23 PM ^
Helmholdt was a little concerned about Fisher in an ITF Extra posted this afternoon. Though a Sparty on this board posted that MSU insiders think he'll stay Blue. So probably much ado about nothing?
