Tommy Doles to Northwestern
Grand Rapids (MI) Christian OL Tommy Doles commits to #Northwestern. http://247sports.com/Player/Tommy-Doles-21908 …
If you have a point to make, trublue616, then "dumbass" and "tool" are not really the best way to communicate that point. We're better than gratuitous name calling around here. Points return in a month.
of the difference between your and you're is lacking
or is it "it's"?
that Nebraska is also NU, and if you say NW, then everyone knows what it is. I have also seen Northwestern abbreviated as NW, which isn't any worse than the SEC for the Southeastern Conference
Yeah, except Nebraska is actually UNL, not NU. Calling them NU is like calling Michigan "MU". Their website is even www.unl.edu.
Northwestern University, on the other hand, is actually NU. It's even a (very basic) cheer in the student section (Go U, N-U).
It's certainly true that people know what you mean when you say or write "NW", but it seems to me like people should respect what others want to be called. It's like someone named Andrew wanting to be called Andy and you just pat them on the head and say, "that's nice" and then keep calling them Andrew.
University of Kansas?
University of Oklahoma?
University of Colorado?
Nebraska actually calls themselves 'Nebraska U' in their fight song I believe as well. I think Nebraska actually prefers to be called this over 'UNL'
Yes, Nebraska is UNL, but for sports it is often abbreviated as "NU." Don't know exactly why this is, but it's a weird Big 12 naming convention:
Univ. of Kansas - KU
Univ. of Colordao - CU
Univ. of Oklahoma - OU
EDIT: Beaten to the punch by GB
...says the guy who's calling people names on an internet message board.
except for that flaimbait crack about the Chargers moving to LA. You can't really take the only thing resembling a West Coast team I can root for from me. (Although, I do like UCLA too).
Isn't Nebraska the "University of Nebraska (at Lincoln)"? Wouldn't that make them "UN" rather than "NU"?
University of Kansas = KU, Univeristy of Missouri = MU, are two examples.
Why would NU make you think of Nebraska? Does MU make you think of Michigan?
by losing to Nebraska (da real NU) 29-28 this year. Better luck next year
^This. They should create a new "rivalry" trophy. Each year whichever team wins gets to take home a nice sized NU trophy. The losing school gets to live with the dishonor of using Neb or NW. Can you imagine the fierce rivalry that would arise? No athletic department wants to deal with those kind of branding issues.
