A team in Juwan's image

As good as the game was today, the best part of it is that none of this was by accident or chance.

There were a lot of uncertainties about Juwan coming in, but there was a lot of hope as well. So far this team has shown us that every hope we had about the type of team Juwan could build might in fact come to fruition.

FAMILY. Juwan talks about this all the time, every interview. Watching how much this team enjoys playing together is so fun as a fan. That bench was bonkers tonight - and in the year of no fans, bench energy will be a big bonus. The bench wasn't just celebrating either - they were communicating to the players as if they were in the game. It was insane. Never seen it to that degree before.

SELFLESSNESS. There doesn't seem to be anyone on this team that is looking out for themselves first. Livers and Brown barely scratched the box score, but they were out there competing and playing their role tonight. Extra passes so often. Few bad shots. Lots of ball movement. Three players had 4+ assists.

BALANCED. This team is so well balanced it makes them hard to defend and hard to pick on defensively. This was one of the great strengths of Juwan's Miami Heat teams. You have to beat the team of Michigan, not just one player. When a couple players have a down night, there will certainly be multiple players who can and likely will step up.

BIG MEN WILL DESTROY YOU. Juwan is a big man. His footwork was masterful as a player. In Miami, he developed their no name big man Adebayo into an all-star. Juwan knows how to take advantage of big men and how to develop them to have the advantage. And when you have a selfless team that likes to pass, big men will eat!

FUN. This team is having a ton of fun. Brown's smile says it all. Juwan's half-court over the shoulder shots before the game. The bench. This team wants to play, and they want to play with each other.

NBA APPROACH. Juwan runs offense like an NBA squad. Taking advantage of weaknesses. Diverse. Balanced. Everyone knows their roles and exploits them. And their sets are different each game.

RECRUITING. Yeah, the best in the country.

These are all things that we hoped Juwan would be able to do - based off of his reputation and former teams, we knew these were his experience. We know he cared about these things because this is what he's been talking about in every interview. But to see it on the court, so soon into his time here... boy this is going to be a fun ride!

Love Juwan and agree with all the praise, but Bam Adebayo was anything but a no name. 5 star high school recruit, went to Kentucky one and done, and got drafted 14th in the first round.

Juwan Howard is impossible to dislike - such a good man.

John Beilein is my all-time favorite Michigan coach, and somehow coach Howard came in and Michigan basketball is every bit as much fun. Huge shoes to fill - and Juwan has done it with his own style and approach.

Thank you, Juwan Howard. So happy you're back home.

You, sir, have been a fondue of shit on this early morning.  Your posts in other threads have also shit on people, places, and things.  What happened, someone pee in your champagne?  Were you the butt of the NYE party prank?  Did your girl setup that prank?

Sleep it off, buttercup.  Be better than this.

I honestly don't think there's a bigger Beilein fan on this site, and I've written that before. I'm an intercultural coach working with business leaders, and Beilein changed how I think about leadership. He's my favorite coach of any sport, of all time.

None of that changes what I think Juwan will be able to do. Which is great. Because I think Juwan will end up with the best resume in Michigan history. Not sure I think he'll stay for as long as Beilein will - maybe it will be shorter. But if he chooses to be a lifer, I think he will be the next Coach K in terms of success and national recognition.

And if you don't agree, then I'd respectfully ask you to check your calendar - because it's 2021 and nothing is going to stop my roll. Go Blue!

Yes, on paper we have been favored to win every game we have played thus far. In a normal year, starting 3-0 in the B1G is a great start. Home court advantage isn’t close to as a big of a thing as it normally is. However, we are the only undefeated team in conference, and one of 4 undefeated teams overall in the top 25. Going to Maryland where they lose on average less than 3 games a year under Turgeon is impressive.

We have successfully replaced our 3 year starter at PG and our 7’1 C and I would say the sum of Smith + Hunter is greater than Simpson + Teske. We’ve added a versatile 6th man in Chaundee, and we still have the steady hands of Livers and Brooks and now the ever growing emergence of Wagner.

We’ve not only won our first 8 games, but we’ve answered a lot of preseason questions along the way.

It was headed in the right direction. But when your coach randomly bounces for the NBA, you don't expect someone new to come in and be instantly embraced by the players, fans, and university -- while not letting the program slide at all -- and recruiting better than the successful coach who left for the Pros.

This. The program direction kind of takes a pause when there is a coaching change and we are trying to feel out the new regime. We lost Jalen Wilson as a result of the JB move. In year 2 of JH we look very well coached and well balanced. His impact appears to be definite and immediate despite the drastic change in style of play.

It's not just winning, they're winning easy.  Only PSU asked for a little late game toughness.  Maryland was just blown the fuck out - at Maryland.  The closeness of that score last night came only when UM stopped playing and decided to let them toss up open looks for the last 3 minutes.  THREE minutes of letting them shoot!  And Maryland is a pretty good team!  And you know what Maryland did, because they were so far out of it with 3 minutes left?  They didn't bother fouling like they had a chance to actually get back in it.  That's how big they were blown out at home...

Michigan is a basketball school.

And, of all these great things that Juwan is instilling in the team, up there on my list is excellent team free throw percentage.  The importance of this cannot be understated.

I’m happy this has been mentioned. I was going to say something yesterday immediately after the game, even maybe a thread about it. A team that is consistently hitting 80-90% of its free throws, especially one that gets to the line 16-20 times a game, is going To be hard to beat. JB teams probably grind out 1-2 more wins a season if they can hit FTs at an 80+% clip regularly. Used to be one of the more frustrating things to experience with those squads.

The best thing about winning is you dont have to hear the lazy  “this team doesnt play with toughness” aka they shot 38% from the floor. I said it before but we may be seeing the rise of our own Coach K. Coach B pulled our program out of the muck and shined us up nice. Juwan is  gold plating it!

JH comes along and 18 months later everyone forgets JB. No wonder this fanbase is moronic and ignorant when it comes to football

it is no wonder why most people make no money in capital markets. You all are fucking misinformed and bias out the asshole.

shit, I love behavioural economics and all related fieds.

you probably think 8% annual returns and 55% drawdowns are prized returns.

MGoBlog is a great sentiment indicator.
