Taysom Hill to transfer to Michigan?

Sounds like Taysom Hill is definitely leaving BYU after this season. Michigan is the only specific school his former OC mentions by name.

One possibility could be playing for Jim Harbaugh at Michigan, which starts a senior quarterback who transferred in for this season. Hill signed to play for Harbaugh at Stanford but never went there and transferred upon returning from a church mission after the coach left to take over for the San Francisco 49ers.

"I would tell Taysom to do the best thing for Taysom," Doman said. "If Michigan comes knocking and you've got a fifth opportunity to play quarterback for Jim Harbaugh, and that's the best thing for Taysom Hill then he should go do that for sure."

I am so unbelievably excited right now!  If we get Taysom, there's NO WAY Michigan isn't the clear front runner to win the Big Ten and make the playoffs.  The kid is electric and a great person.  He and Harbaugh have a connection and he is a business major.  Hello MBA!

Not to be negative but have you watched us play the last few weeks? If it wasn't for the fact that Wilson and the Minnesota coach both didn't know how to manage games we would have two losses. Our offense is horrible don't let scoring on terrible Rutgers and Indiana mask the problems we have. OSU will be the favorite next season followed by us. We're still two year away from being elite. Heck our supposed awesome defense just let Indiana run 17running plays in a row against us. I think we're getting better and we're going to be great but I feel like people are jumping the gun quite a bit when it comes to our talent level.

When you lose Glasgow, Ojemudia and Mone you're going to have problems stopping good RBs like Howard. If we get Mone back we might have a chance. Ruddock showed some signs he might be getting into a groove. He's showed a lot more in the last 2 games than he has all season. Maybe the offense is poised to take a step forward. The D will remain a concern due to attrition at what once was our deepest area.

Don't trust any Borges skill position recruits on the roster. Morris will transfer to Grand Valley or Northern Michigan. Wilton will transfer to Richmond. Tavon gets a year, then O'korn, then on to Peters.

I think I'm glad Harbaugh had more vision than you and brought in Rudock rather than just wait to "see what the varitable stable of QBs we have" could do.  That didn't work out so bad.  Kid leads us to 8 wins already with an outside shot of the division title.

Yea.  I'm definitely glad.

I don't think this year and last year are remotely comparable.  Next year adds a transfer with experience, seasoning to two RS freshmen, and possibly the best HS recruit in the country to the mix.  Compared to this year where we had a Junior most didn't feel remotely good about, a RS freshman who was not heavily recruited and two true freshman.  I think everyone saw a 5th year transfer QB as a good idea this year.  Next year it is far less clear.

We have, conservatively, two or three legitimate options next year.  Coming into this season, most didn't think we had any.

Besides O'Korn, what "legitimate" options do you have next year that you didn't this year?  We have seen very little of Speight and nobody else (including O'Korn) this year.  O'Korn is the only one to have logged any significant college game experience.  Proclaiming "legitimacy" for the unproven returning or incoming talent seems a stretch.  Potential? Absolutely.

I think people are going a little overboard on the game experience issue.  Obviously you'd like your QB to have some starts under his belt, but a guy like Gentry might be a viable option next year, when he will be in his second year in the system.  I think there is a huge difference between being a true and redshirt freshman.

"Green" starters take over and excell in college football all the time.  So I don't dismiss guys just because they haven't played.

That being said, I think generally someone has to be special to be a legitimate option as a true freshman.  Peters is more likely to be that type of freshman than either or our two current true freshman qbs.  Gentry and Malzone each get a full year of practice added to their resume.  It's not unreasonable to think one of them could be a legitimate threat to win the starting job.  And then Speight's ascension above Morris has to give everyone more hope for him than they did coming into this season.

Yes, it's all potential, but more potential and with far more reasonable expectations that whoever wins next year's QB battle will provide solid QB play.

bowl practices and spring practices to see how they like the QB's on the roster.  I'm guessing Hill is graduating in the spring and not December so any type of graduate transfer with him wouldn't happen until the summer.

Based on the current number of QBs on the roster (with more on the way), I would say Coach Harbaugh agrees.  Players who come to Michigan know they'll be competing.

I agree with other commenters.  If we bring in a 5th year grad transfer and none of our existing rostered QBs can beat him out (or more correctly, the coaches think he provides the best chance to win games), then I don't really feel bad about it.  Unwavering loyalty to rostered players who aren't the most talented or most prepared is a questionable recipe for success.

Plus, successful grad transfers seem to be fairly uncommon, and certainly that's been true for U-M (as I believe Rudock is our first, or at least our first who made an impact).  I say this without performing any research.  For every Russell Wilson, Everett Golson, Mean Girls Rudddock, and Blake Countess, there are probably just as many transfers who make limited or minimal contribution.

Who are we to turn down a capable, experienced, talented, preferably calm QB?  In spite of his limitations, I shudder to imagine where we might be this year without Rudock.

if the coaches view hill as the potential 1st or 2nd best QB or a QB who can win games for m then itd be silly to pass.  harbaugh trusts his eye for talent and ability to find the right guys but he also understands importance of constantly stoking the competitive fire so i wouldnt expect him to passively address his teams most important position.

sure, they have 6-7 QBs already on roster (though only 1 has played significant college ball) but id be shocked if at least 1 does not transfer this offseason - and if you have 5-6 QBs but dont think you have a guy capable of leading the team to a championship then you dont really have any QBs bc you dont have the guy you need.  why not make a move?

teams recruit 20-30 players every year with goal of eventually molding 1-2 into winning QBs - and gifted QBs just happen to be most vital to a programs success.  if the team can purchase 1 year lottery tickets (not 4-5 year tickets) at the games most important position with limited downside, why not?

5th year QBs might just be the smartest bet in all of college ball - coaches bring in experienced, mature, talented QB with hopes of finding the next russell wilson to lead the team to a rose bowl or rudock to help win 4-5 games more than prior year, and worst case scenario theyre taking a flier on someone like wayne lyons for 1 year (experienced, mature, talented guy bolsters depth and special teams) - if hill wants to transfer and docs sign off, its a no brainer

multiple starting QB's from other teams, to transfer in every year as walk ons to prepare for the NFL, so each year we get experienced and highly recruited QB's! We lose the first game as they are adjusting to the scheme then run the table. We never have to recruit a QB again and save the schollys for number 1 and 2 receivers!
