Taysom Hill to Michigan?

Submitted by DISCUSS Man on

Brian and Ace on MGoRadio talked about the possibility of byu injured QB Taysom Hill transferring to Michigan.

it starts at 04:11 of segment 6.

if you can't listen to it, basically they're saying it's possible and that they've heard things themselves from people out in Provo on top of reading things on the pay sites about it being in motion.

Why in the world wouldn't this look good? The medical staff decided Falcon wasn't healthy enough to play football. So they're not offering him the chance to play football anymore. It has nothing to do with his talent (which was borderline 5*, in my opinion).

Hill is also very talented. If the medical staff is fine with the reports from his rehab, and they want to bring him on board, they will do so. Their evaluation of his health will have nothing to do with his talent.

Harbaugh talking doesn't mean Harbaugh is deciding. Any time a committed recruit gets injured and has surgery, the athletic training staff for that school will receive the reports on the surgery, and make a judgment based off of that information. I guarantee you that this decision was not Harbaugh free-wheeling off of a whim, and that UM athletic training staff was involved.

I don't understand, why is QB development behind Rudock and looking to add an accomplished QB transfer mutually exclusive events?

Like, what if O'Korn really is the best QB on the roster right now and coming along nicely but we had the chance to have Tom Brady for one year, wouldn't you still take it?

I say bring on all the QBs and let the best man win!

At some point we've got to stop bringing in transfer who can play immediately. Otherwise it just signals to younger guys they'll never get a chance. Why would anyone to that kind of team?

Good writeup here about it:

Harbaugh recruited Hill heavily at Stanford, and according to Dan Wolken's feature on Hill over the offseason, Harbaugh had a major impact on Hill's life, well after he went to BYU instead.

Debilitated to the point he couldn't walk for weeks and inspired by a 45-minute phone conversation with current Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh, who once recruited him to Stanford, Hill, a finance major at BYU's Marriott School of Management, threw himself into his studies and landed an internship at a venture capital firm that specializes in funding early-stage technology companies before they go public or even generate revenue and — hopefully — deliver a massive return on investment

Well, if his internship is any indication of the sort of work in business he is interested in doing, then Ann Arbor and its environs has a pretty decent variety of such firms and a pool of people who would be looking to start such firms. If he in fact decided to come to Michigan (and who knows how likely that truly is), perhaps the idea of some potential hands on experience might be attractive.

I hope Hill transfers to Michigan, and if he does, I dont think that necessarily says much about the other QBs on our roster. QB is THE most important position on a football team - You cannot win championships without a good to elite QB (as we've seen, IMO from our team this year.)

Harbaugh understands the importance of this and is stacking the deck to make sure he gets QBs that will compete and cream rising to the top.

I don't get how some are already questioning QB development. Hill would provide legit competition to O'Korn. We don't know that Gentry and Peters would provide the same level of competition...plus we want Peters to redshirt anyways. With some QB attrition expected, this more than makes sense.

Who knows? But I certainly wouldn't be surprised if Harbaugh looked at the field of 2016 5th year transfer QBs, and there were a couple out there who showed mutual interest. Given our QB depth, I'd say it more likely than not that we bring another veteran in to compete with O'Korn.

I'm thinking we'll see a couple of qbs transfer in the off-season. I'm not speculating on names at all. But if the qbs who remain are all underclassmen, taking Hill makes sense. We're not running a read-option--the UM offensive playbook is thick, so grooming time is required. Why not bring in Hill to give the seniors who stuck with the program the best shot at a playoff spot?

and has demonstrated to be elite when healthy at the college level, where as Falcon has had 3 acl injuries in HS alone, and hasn't even demonstrated to be an elite HS player because of them, not to mention he'd be a 4yr commitment instead of 1.

Other than that, those situations are exactly the same.

even having heard the things we've heard about O'Korn this year in practice, if he's a real possibility, I think you have to take him after seeing what sub to mediocre QB play has done for us so far this year.  Let them duke it out and you've got a great QB starting for your team with more than likely a guaranteed excellent back up as well.

Put a QB with the skill of Hill on this offense with this caliber of defense, and this defense isn't getting worse next year barring an exodus of a few key pieces to the NFL(please stay Lewis and Henry), and Michigan is a real national title contender next year.

Where's the full injury report on Hill? (nvm, I'll google it.) Considering Harbaugh has offered medicals to a recent former player (Pipkins) and recent recruit (Falcon) I'm a bit leery of Hill making the roster.

I'm pretty sure Hill's injuries have been broken bones as opposed to torn ligaments. Ligament injuries are far worse than bone injuries. Matt Falcon having multiple ACL injuries will limit his potential. But breaking a bone doesn't necessarily mean he will never recover.

I would be completely in favor of this. Last offseason, we were mostly all praising Harbaugh's policy of recruiting as many QBs as possible to hedge against the likely failure of the majority of any group of QB recruits to pan out.

Yes, last offseason's crop was much worse off before the addditions of Rudock and O'Korn (though the latter is unable to play this year) than what we have going into next year. But every QB who's signed up since (O'Korn, Gentry, Peters, Viramontes) has to know that Harbaugh is in favor of intense competition at every position, especially QB, and that no one is promised a clear path to the job. I don't think any of them would be offended by Hill's addition, and if they are, eh.

I'm very excited to see O'Korn take the field next year based on his freshman year at Houston, but nothing is guaranteed. The more talent we add to the position the better.

Therefore, why are so many nervous nellies on this board suggesting that it is a bad idea?

Harbaugh+Michigan's 2016 roster+Taysom Hill=playoff team.

It's a no brainer (assuming that Hill's injuries are not too severe)

BTW, can anyone comment on Hill's most recent foot injury?  I recall TV guys suggesting that it was the sort of thing that would mean no more football for Hill.

Paxton Lynch from Memphis. I watched him vs Ole Miss this past weekend --- wow! He is a RS Junior. 6'7, 240 pounds. 13 TD's, 1 INT. Can run the ball as well. Sign him up if we are going after 5th year guys.
