The point being that he may not want it. He would still need to apply for it, and he could decide after 4 years and his degree that it would be worth it to take a shot at the NFL or moving on.

A sixth year is impossible unless he gets injured again or forced to take a redshirt year with transfer. He played 6 games in 2018 and all of 2019. Getting a sixth year would require losing a future year of competition, and losing a year to sitting out for transfer is not a guarantee for a sixth year.

Good luck Tarik!

Gotta think, if he could have stayed healthy during his time here, he'd be a shoo-in for the NFL right now. It'll be interesting to see where he ends up. I'll be a fan of his unless he lines up across from us.

This should surprise no one. That guy was vastly underutilized, as were all of the other offensive weapons.

How can everyone be underutilized? By definition, someone has to be utilized or overutilized if all these guys are getting underutilized. Or are you trying to say that all these players were not deployed properly? I get the feeling a lot of us overrate some of our players, like Tarik Black. He had a breakout performance in his first game, but never captured that again during the rest of his career. Maybe he needed a full year to get over the two years of injury, but eventually it starts getting late early as more players were passing him by or catching up. A fresh start may be best for him and Michigan.

I get the Nico Collins argument for being underutilized. I don't get the one for Tarik Black. There are only so many targets to go around for a team.

The passing game as a whole in Patterson's 2 seasons was completely underutilized. Only towards the end of this season did Michigan really start to attack aggressively through the air. However, Black wasn't one of the players underutilized, he was hurt, then this year Gattis even basically admitted he wasn't the same player. Mentally he was tentative. I know DPJ wasn't healthy for half the season this year, but am I the only one that noticed even when healthy Collins was the only one we took deep shots to? What really pisses me off is earlier in the season in games like Army....Ya we won the game but idk what the hell Gattis was doing. You cannot convince me that Collins wasn't going to make plays in single coverage against Army. Whatever the offense was struggling, it doesn't take much creativity to say screw it Collins is single covered let's throw it deep to him. Because to me it was more like 70/30 than a 50/50 ball. Of course Patterson's play earlier this season was so dreadful it kinda just stalled the whole offense.

See yah dude, barely knew ye.

I get the feeling he will go to some SEC school like MSU and will have 30 catches for 500 yards and we will never hear about him again.  Sort of like the dog shit season Soloman had this year on a shitty Tennessee team.

Gonna be cheering for whoever is wearing the maize and blue next year anyways.  WR is the one area I don't think we need to fret about next year - considering the issues at CB, DL, OL, QB (potential but no true game performance to go off of), and on.

We aren't even close to being a reloading program with how poorly JH has recruited overall in relation to what OSU is doing and keeping the talent he does bring in.  That 2017 class is a bitch right now.

But it's just whatever.  Kids come and kids go and football goes on.

Gonna be watching every week and cheering on the guys regardless.

Not a big loss.  He's injury prone and his route running was sub-par.

I hope this is a signal that at least one of DPJ and Collins will be returning.

Big loss talent wise IMO. For whatever reason his head wasn't in it this year it seemed like. His talent to me is at an all-conference level. Not sure if it was attitude, work ethic, or something else but there is something that's not computing here.

Good luck wherever you end up! You can make it to the league for sure.

Hmm lemme think....Could it be he broke both ankles? Don't you think a kid might have an issue with that mentally getting back on the field. I would imagine in the back of your mind you're worried it could happen again. Gattis spoke about this before the season started. Basically said Tarik needed to work on letting it go and just go out and play. Easier said than done for some people. Not sure why people keep saying he's NFL ready. Last I checked the NFL wouldn't be interested in drafting a guy with 2 surgically repaired ankles along with being 4th string and not being a factor on his team. If he goes somewhere and can get back to his old form which to be honest even then was just flashes, then maybe he can be drafted. I liked Black to obviously as a freshman but some of you act like he almost hit 1000 yards receiving or something before he got hurt.

If Nico and DPJ come back this means nothing, if one comes back we are ok but think on the outside, if both leave we have one outside guy left and it becomes a problem

this does not surprise me one bit, considering after what i was told by a suite holder this year who's nephew is on the team... per him black might have had a bit of a bad attitude and it might have been manifesting its way through the team... the suite holder brought up blacks name when him and i were talking about transfers after woods went into the portal...

No big deal. Just way it is nowadays in cfb. His production is replaceable

Dude has never had more than 1 touchdown in a season and more than 323 yards.

Well, this sucks, but it also isn't surprising.  Those injuries that killed his first two seasons just destroyed his ability to stay on the field.  He could never quite catch up to the continued development that Nico and DPJ showed.  And he's not a fit in the slot, so the only option he had was outside.  With the emergence of Bell as a viable (hell - good) slot, DPJ could stay outside, blocking him from the field.  When he did get in, it was because DPJ was out or moved inside to the slot while Bell sat.

I don't think this will impact the position group, though.  Lets assume both Nico and DPJ both hit the draft.  Bell will move outside, and Black would be fighting with Cornelius Johnson for the other wideout spot.  But CJ is also viable as a slot, and both Sainristil and Jackson are viable outside WRs.  Tarik is the only guy limited to one position - parked out wide.  He becomes a telegraph in an offense with significant versatility across the skill groups.  Worse, he's a telegraph that can be single covered.

I wish the guy well and hope he makes it to the NFL.  And I'll continue to curse his injuries and Pep's passing 'attack' in his honor!

The key there is the ability to play inside and outside. Think of what happens in the NFL when a premier outside corner starts locking down a receiver. The team moves them to the slot to do damage. I agree with what you said about the other receivers. They might even bring more speed which makes for a more potent offense.

Might be a reach to assert Jackson and Sainristil as outside WRs. Jeremy Gallon is not the archetypal Gattis receiver when you think of the Deep State guys. Also, a wheel route here and there  down the sideline does not make an outside reciever out of two guys that are 5’9” and 5’10”. Much more realistic to see Cornelius Johnson replacing Nico and Bell replacing DPJ on the outside (unless DPJ stays).

Nick Baumgardner reporting that as of now he's listed as a regular transfer, and not a grad transfer.  Not sure what the possibility of that changing is, but if so - wow.  That boggles the mind even further.

Uses him right?  How is it on the school when a receiver runs a shit route and gives zero effort to fight for a first down in the biggest game of the season?  That play was very revealing.

Tarik's first Michigan catch was a long score v Florida that excited fans about his potential, but his last was what I'll remember most.

Production wise, it isn’t a loss. It’s more of an unfulfilled talent situation.

You don’t routinely beat high level D-1 athletes like what Florida has without having real talent. We weren’t scheming to get him open or anything, was straight beating CB’s clean. Hell, I remember the hype coming out of camp that yr was that he was completely outplaying DPJ (who had the most hype of any WR we’ve had in a long time), and then he came out and showed it. What he showed those first few games weren’t a fluke, the injuries are what did it. Hopefully he can bounce back at another school.

??...I still have that torrent saved on my hard drive. He was getting separation in that game, even on balls not thrown to him. As for that TD you speak of, the DB was playing outside on what I believe was a skinny post. It was a bust, but TB had a step on him even before TB went into his break. And again, the main story out of camp that yr was TB being the best WR in camp & looking like the game breaker on offense for Mich. Hit google to make sure I wasn’t misremembering, and that’s exactly what the buzz was at that time, so I’m not sure what you have a problem w/. Me saying TB was unfulfilled talent due to injury?
