State Offers RB Commit Kurt Taylor
Mates,
Perusing the interwebs this morning and came across a late-posted article that says that state offered Kurt Taylor, a 2017 commit who had committed back in 2015. I'm not sure if there is anything more going on, but the article had this tweet (is that what you call it?):
Kurt Taylor @KurtTaylorRb2 13h13 hours ago
Blessed to receive an offer from the Head Coach @DantonioMark from MSU
Maybe the kid was just being gracious to state, but in case anyone else has some insight, curious to know if there are any rumblings with this kid going elsewhere.
Anyway, have a great weekend.

Has been mentioned as last minute change of heart guy for months. And when I say change of heart I mean the coaches have a change of heart and let him know quietly he should look around. However what doesn't make sense is waiting this long. Not to mention the 10's of pictures Kurt has posted with coach and his family. However it's possible I guess that we are going to flip a couple guys as well as get a couple guys we were not expecting and maybe Kurt is the bottom man on the pole. Everything I'm reading/hearing says:
Swinging for the fences and a legit shot on:
Solomon, Collins, Becton, Gay, Hicks, Tufele, Slaton, Hebert, Falo
Would take if other things fall thru:
Martin, D Johnson, & Sebastain

that was the 'scoop' i was looking for to put it in context.
and you sure know a lot for a ghost. nice spook work.

I would take all that with a grain of salt though. Taylor has been one of the strongest commits in this class since he committed and I don't think Harbaugh and co want the negative publicity they received at the end of last year again. As for spots, we have 5 spots left for 1WR, 1DT, 1DB, and 2 other positions. I think Michigan should go after Cordarrian Richardson (#6 RB and weirdly also visiting MSU)

Also weirdly visiting Central Florida this weekend.

Biggest resason? Because Kurt Taylor was a Harbaugh offer/commit.
Erik Swenson was NOT. Big difference. Harbaugh didn't offer Swenson, nor did he commit on Harbaugh's watch. The staff didn't like his skillset / where his development had gone and yes it was late in the cycle but they clearly felt they needed room, etc.. Much easier to process someone else's kid, so to speak, than one of your own. And honestly, Harbaugh/Drevno not wanting an OL Brady Hoke recruited isn't that strange.
Either way, I don't see Taylor getting processed out. The staff seems to be high on him and it is very late in the cycle to do this to a kid they offered. Not saying it can't/won't happen. Just seems highly unlikely to happen to Taylor is all.

Harbaugh's side of the story is that plenty of notice was given to Swenson.

going to be last year. He does now. He's not actively seeking out bad publicity. The other difference is that was just starting to recruit here. Finishing off the 2015 class was a challenge so he took a lot of borderline commits early for 2016. A couple of players got dropped from this year's class and it happened early.

About half of his insight is nonsense.
Hicks decommitted from ND and immediately committed to Cal.
Everything I've heard about Slaton is he is trending to FL: 81% of CBs are to FL, 8% to M.
The only Hebert on 247 is a 2* WR. If this is a reference to Kai-Leon Herbert it's out of place since he is a current commit.
The Sacramento Bee recently ran an article on Falo (who is local). It indicated zero interest in M. His main interest is Colorado (IIRC his brother attends there), Oregon and USC. All CCs are to OR and CO.
Donovan Johnson doesn't even have an offer. He is committed to PSU. It would be very embarassing to extend an offer at this late date. I don't think Harbaugh would invite the ridicule that would follow.
Martin fits where he has him listed, in case Collins falls through, but I don't think Sebastian belongs there, particularly given that Hicks was placed in the first group.

Pure educated speculation. Knowing where a few coaches have visited already, are on there way to visit, or visiting next week is what led me to my post. Also if you think I'm the first person on here to question/wonder if Taylor sticks you must not be on here much. A couple friends on staff, alumni, Sam, and family of players currently on the team is why I believe this is educated speculation.
They may be out on Falo, and Hicks..But it has not stopped the coaches from continued pursuit so please frame accordingly. Additionally, I have been told by multiple people Gay is IN if he qualifies, and that getting either: Austin Jackson or Becton have become a priority. Lastly, I firmly believe if offered, anytime, DJohnson will come. Cheers

Can you link me to some places where that has been mentioned? I don't recall seeing it in a recruiting roundup, for example.
January 14th, 2017 at 8:04 AM ^
I think I read the same thing at TTB. Maybe Magnus would know?
January 14th, 2017 at 9:09 AM ^
Magnus said on this board that Taylor comes from an important school in GA and you probably don't want to piss them off. We could end up in another Glenville relationship. The way UGA recruits, they seem to be getting whomever they want anyway. It may not matter.
January 14th, 2017 at 9:50 AM ^
That is correct. Loganville (GA) Grayson is a talent-laden school. The previous coach had a familiar career arc to Michigan fans: he was hired by Dabo Swinney at Clemson. The new coach who replaced him brought a ton of talent to Grayson, and there are actually some rumors that the...uh..."recruitment" of some of those athletes is not above board.
Anyway, Taylor is at Grayson now - along with Deangelo Gibbs (Georgia), Jamyest Williams (South Carolina) - and that's not a school you want to sever ties with.

Bell was uncovered. Scott - no. He is from Hubbard OH and was a top 100 player on every service and Urban wanted him too.

Let's assume Isaac & Johnson both come back and Samuels comes. Here is the pecking order for Fall 2017.
1.) Evans
and not necessarily in order....
2.) Walker
3.) Higdon
4.) Isaac
5.) Johnson
6.) Samuels
The odd men out IMO are Taylor & Davis. We all saw what happened this year. We need speed at RB. You will not win a NC with Deveon Smith as your main horse in this day and age- it's just not happening. Harbaugh will continue to pursue that home run back that we need to take us to the next level. Hopefully it's Samuels.

Saquon Barkley ran for 1000+ yds and a 5.9 ave as a TRUE freshman behind a 2015 PSU OL that the 2013 UM line would get on groupchat to laugh about. So yes you could in theory win with a Smith but it helps to have a Deshaun Watson. There were holes in the 2nd half vs FSU that a very talented back would have exploited - Evans did in his limited carries. Barkley would have... Smith was unable to. It is what is is. #horsebeat

replacement for Fisch. We have a very well regarded one now. I wouldn't bet against that recruitment changing course once Hamilton gets to work on the 2018 class.

Brandon Peters and Dylan McCaffrey may not be the athlete that DRT is but they are still mobile QB's and damn good ones!
I think the offense will be just fine with the QB's/RB's we have... OL is the position that is worrisome, due to youth and lack of depth but that is being addressed. Championship OL's aren't built/developed overnight ya know.

Kali? You mean Kalis? If you're going to call him dumb, at least take the time to proof your post so you don't look dumb. But then, content... Just because Kalis doesn't have some God-given ability on the field, doesn't mean he's dumb. And when did Braden become mentally soft? He was on track to a decent draft position as a guard, until he was moved to tackle, where he immediately stabilized a position he had never played at UM (despite not being draftable at the position).
Last years OL sucked. But when you put it into the perspective of where the same players were two years ago, it was pretty darn good.
