In-stadium scoreboard photo
Hi all.
Just thought I'd share the (admittedly semi-crappy cell phone pic) of the stadium scoreboards, taken from inside the stadium on July 23.
Here's hoping the embed works :) and a link to full size:
I'd take the bare look of the rendering over what Minnesota ended up installing at TCF Bank Stadium—even if their video screen is a bit bigger.
That is god awful ugly.
Look at those 10 rows of seats in the endzone underneath the scoreboard... how cute.
For some reason I want eat at DQ and stay at a radison.
You realize that only the 3 ads at the top are permanent, and the rest are being displayed on the video screen, right? During the game they have the video feed in the middle with ads/statistics surrounding it like pictured (the blank part at the very bottom is for closed captioning), but during replays they go "full screen".
is a nice touch.
I'm disappointed these aren't going to be bigger. Missed opportunity.
Sounds like you might be the kind of person that would be given everything they ever wanted. But complain it didn't happen fast enough.

It's a football stadium, not a drive-in theater. You're probably not going to be watching live action on the scoreboard if you're in attendance.
You all have to understand that you are looking at a pic that is the result of a transformation of perspective caused by the lens used in cell phones. In other words, distant objects appear smaller than they are in real life. The illusion very common with cell phone cameras.
Last year was the first year for the PA speakers to be located in the scoreboard. Previously, the speakers had always been atop the press box. But with the renovation of the stadium and the press box, we were told that speakers atop the new (much large) press box would be too high in the air to be effective. Hence, the move to the south scoreboard.
Oops...NORTH scoreboard.
I think it looks great, love the picture, and for size reference, the goal post really helps! They are 18 feet 6inches wide, the cross bar is 10feet high, and the uprights are 15feet high! Yes the stadium is huge, but I think the scoreboards are a nice size for all else we have to go with it! The example of the Minn scoreboard is a good example of too much, especially given the scope of the overall stadium and proximity to the field as a result. As for me and mine, can wait for real game action!!
Thanks for the pic!
Thanks for making note of this point of reference in the picture. When you compare them to the fieldgoal posts, it really does emphasize that they are pretty large.

Having speakers in both scoreboards would be a nightmare. The sound waves will distort each other. As well, since DB made an effort in the BIG to allow the amplification of the marching band, the MMB's sound is being pumped through the speakers, adding speakers to the south scoreboard would be hell due to the three different places the sound is coming from.
does this new scoreboard play defense?
So where does the 'score' actually go on these new scoreboards? Will it just be a graphic in the corner of the video monitor? It looks like the game clock occupies its own permanent little area. I'd have thought the score, quarter, down and distance, etc., would as well.
Hey guys, it's a scoreboard.
...contests have been replaced by scoreboard e-peen.
