Morris will be excellent? I have a hard time believing that Morris would not be in the game when our starting QB goes out and Harbaugh doesn't put Morris in if he was the second best option. No way Harbaugh saves his RS. That was a close game. Speight must be the second best choice. That is the logical explanation.

Morris wasn't at fault for being concussed by Minnesota last year.  The O-line was at fault for poor protection throughout that game.

Remember how before that game, people on message boards were blaming Gardner for the shortcoming of the offense, and saying that Hoke was hurting the team by his refusal to start Morris, blah, blah, blah.  And then Morris did start.  The result was very predictable--poor blocking plus less mobility than Gardner meant a bad outing for Morris.

Stone cold Speight!!!! Kudos to coach Harbaugh for having this player so well-prepared to play. These young incoming quarterbacks have to be excited after watching what Speight did coming off the bench.

I honestly don't see why not start him. Ruddock is gone after this year and we aren't going to the playoffs. Might as well so see what he has. There's a reason why Iowa let ruddock transfer wherever he wanted to go.

Pretty disheartening reading some of the other posts in the live blog thread here. He was getting crucified and the game wasn't even over. I saw a kid with some poise in a position that looked very grim and he threw two huge passes in the TD and 2 pt conversion. He was able to look off his read and find the open receiver and without that conversion that game is over with Minnesota most likely forgoing any TD try.

This game caused me to put a major dent in my kids Halloween candy, and I also cleaned out all the wine we had in the house.  Tomorrow will hurt.

Speight. Entered the program behind much higher rated QB's. Speight didn't give no ****s.

The media focused on Jake and Shane for the QB position for the season. Speight didn't give no ****s.

Harbaugh signed 100 QB's during his first "official" signing period where he had 3? months to prepare for? Speight didn't give no ****s.

Jake went down during a play that deserved a penalty and recieved none. Speight gave no ****s.

Speight, under tons! of pressure needed to score a TD to win. Speight gave no ****s.

One touchdown, a 2-point conversion later. Speight still doesn't give a fuck. Speight is a starting Michigan QB and has earned it.

If Speight never gets the nod for another start in his career I will always remember him. He was subbed into a game during a HUGE point in Michigan's history.

Losing this game, Michigan would reasonably never be in the BIG 10 Champtionship game conversation agian, for the year. Michigan would have lost a conference trophy...again.

Speight stepped in during a TREMENDOUS point of the game. No time to warm up. No time to gauge the defense. Speight gave no ****s.

Speight is a Michigan QB. Speight stepped in and delivered. He gave no fucks.

No controversy, without Rudock the rest of the team would've never aquired the confidence to run this offense so well, but now that they do.......cya Iowa castoff give me some Spieght!

Like you, I am happy to see Wilton finally throw the ball and those final three passes will, I believe, do wonders for his confidence going forward. Undoubtedly, his ceiling is much higher than Jake's as well.  But just go back to the beginning of the season and JH was comfortable enough with only one QB to trust him with doing what he thought most important in his initial year as HC at UM: Play tough football with expectations to win as a habit, not a result of being lucky or simply putting out superior talent as opposed to the few teams in our conference we were able to beat with the no-better-than-MAC level coaching they had received.

There was only one qb available and that he was comfortable enough to do this with a very watered down playbook that has shown about 45% of what we'll see when we have a roster equipped with elite talent at the wr, lber and rb position in addition to the all-important qb spot. And all Jake has done has played well enough that minus, one abberation, that we are a 7-1 team, far exceeding expectations. The fact that the play puts us at 6-2 still transcends expectations of reasonable fans.

As stated, I'm as happy as any UM fan to see a glimpse of what might become a qb capable of handling all the duties of that position, but as of now it is still only hope. The fact that he did so in a pressure packed situation heightens that hope though but is not a given with only one successful drive.

Jake has done just what Jim has asked of him and to label him as a Iowa castoff, although technically correct, is unfair to him imo.  The CFB world is once again taking Michigan seriously and regardless of how we've accomplished that, Jake Ruddock has been at the helm during this transformation.

Going into training camp, he was behind two QB's and the only time someone talked about him was in reference to potential transfers. He patiently waited his turn, and when he got it, he ended up throwing the game winning touchown pass to win the oldest trophy in college football. Good for him.

Throw Speight in with a very talented group of young QBs (Korn, Gentry, Peters, Viramontes and Malzone) on the roster for next season...and it will be very, very interesting to see who comes out with the starting job.

He looked very good and throws a tight, crisp ball with good velocity and accuracy.

would be "taking up a roster spot" only if he comes in, wins the job then gets hurt and can't play the rest of the year.

Don't you think it'd be exciting to have Hill go in the game periodically (instead of Peppers, who I'm not sure can be spared from the Defense next year if he gets hurt running the ball on O) to run a couple of designed run/pass plays?  Question is would Hill want to come to UM under that condition.

I won't lie to you all, when Speight went in, and stayed in, after Rudock's injury, I thought we were done.  I am kind of ashamed, actually.  Glad he proved me wrong, even though I probably didn't deserve it.  Most impressive to me was his pocket awareness.  I don't know if I ever saw his head pivot more than 10 degrees to either side while he was in the pocket, but nonetheless he seemed like he had that inate sense of when things were closing in around him.  Not bad, kid.

My inner bone head fan wants to see speight with a full week of practice, reps, and everything that comes with starting next week and see what he can do! But then I remember Jim Harbaugh is our coach and I think he knows a little more about quarterbacking than I do :p
