|6 weeks 2 days ago||Love this team||
Hi all, usually I'm an avid reader of almost every word of this blog then I leave satisfied and without comment but after this game vs Rutgers (still can't believe they're in the Big Ten) I have to put in my two cents. I agree with MGrowOld (full disclosure, I'm old too...UM '86) that I'm not seeing it with Speight (maybe I'm still skeptical of any Borges QB recruit) and I'm not sure he can become good enough this year for this team to compete in the CFP...I hope I'm "wrong, wrong, wrong"...;)
Don't get me wrong, I trust Harbaugh implicitly for sure but I'd personally like to see some more of O'Korn out there. This defense is championship caliber for certain but I was very disturbed by M's offense at Rutgers before Peppers ripped off the 63 yd run.
The QB position and the OLine are certainly the limiting factors on this team...come on Jimmy, get Speight to the next level!!

We can't understand how one can put oneself in bad situations (or say stupid things) over and over in real life, but isn't that kind of the basis for most tv shows? Jesse was stupid show after show in BB but that set one of the foundations of the story. Oh well, to each his own.

All the above might be good...it's all a matter of personal taste.
A new series on HBO that had a great first episode on Sunday is:
The Night of
We liked it a lot.

Turnovers please? That could be the miracle...we're saving them all up for The Game. Can't remember the last meaningful turnover we've gotten from an opponent, it's frustrating to watch. Just think how good this team would be with a better TO margin.

would be "taking up a roster spot" only if he comes in, wins the job then gets hurt and can't play the rest of the year.
Don't you think it'd be exciting to have Hill go in the game periodically (instead of Peppers, who I'm not sure can be spared from the Defense next year if he gets hurt running the ball on O) to run a couple of designed run/pass plays? Question is would Hill want to come to UM under that condition.

Fisher is a good coach but he's a southerner (went to Samford (Alabama)) and I doubt he'd "fit" in Southern California and in the homes of recruits, don't you agree? I mean, RR was labeled a hick by all the bad fans and trolls the first day he hit AA...I think a guy named Jimbo would be grilled hard unless he won big in the first year...sad to say that but I think it's reality.
Also, why would he really leave FSU for USC...that's a lateral move IMO and he's on the right side of things with his divorce (he didn't pull a Petrino) so he'll be fine socially there.

all the ladies who are readers of this blog (and all women who love UM) would like to see that happen. He could be here in MI for the summer and football season, then head back down under in mid January every year just in time for high summer there, then be back in MI for the wonderful Michigan summers.

My daughter said roughly the same thing. She said (roughly) "...he's the cutest football player I've ever seen...how could HE have dropped that football..." I tried to sell her on how "cuteness" doesn't always equal great playing 100% of the time but that he'd come close in this game...he was one of UM's best players on Saturday. I think she bought it.

Polynesians have really proven they can play ball over the years, so I've said for a while now to friends that Michigan would be very smart to start recruiting these guys more and more. It may be a tougher pull away from the west coast teams but very worthwhile to try.

could be a great option at FB but only if he wants to be 2 inches shorter on graduation day than he is now... ;)

Don't Ty, Drake, Derrick and even Ross have to eat too? Let's feed them if possible even more than De'Veon so he can heal that ankle completely for next week.

Love it...the dog is Kalis...I was kinda surprised the refs gave him that call, he was way late.

Wins 27-3...not as much success on the road on O (maybe Rudock throws a pick to Likely) but the Defense shows up as it always will this season (barring major injuries)...GO BLUE!!
|1 year 10 weeks ago||SW I agree with this||
My general feeling at the time was that the recruiting was in a downward trajectory (fewer players each year were becoming difference-makers) although I was (and am still not) any sort of recruiting devotee/expert. I'd been watching M football since the mid-seventies (student in the early 80s and 86 grad) and I feel my football knowledge is/was decent enough to have a valid opinion.
I do remember wondering who would follow Carr; my disgust with his and his staff's conservative play-calling and gameplans made it hard for me to want any of his assistants. I also remember when RR was hired I thought he couldn't miss and we'd dominate in the years to come, oops.

9 years ago when Bo was still alive and UM was marching toward an 11-0 start before that epic matchup with OSU, WHO among us would have predicted that by 2015, OSU and MSU would be 1 and 2? At that time, we were aware (but not fully aware) of some poor recruiting by Lloyd that would come up and bite us by 2008 but I, at least, felt that UM would be fine anyway and MSU would still be languishing in mediocrity. Instead we've become mediocre. Please Harbaugh...little help?

More passwords have been changed to some variation of "Harbaugh" than any in the history of M football fans. I admit it, I've done it.

I sure hope you feel better soon, Ace. It's frustrating as hell when you don't feel right and there's no obvious answer as to why. We'll miss you.

I vote for you as our new Prez. Seriously though that statement you've made is exactly right and seems simple enough. I'd only amend it in that UM has been an academic leader in this country for nearly 150 years...dating back to when Victor Vaughan started working as dean of the UM medical school to move medicine away from bleeding patients to following the scientific method.
|2 years 6 days ago||Good info in the article||
Thanks for linking to this, OP. I don't get to the NYT website on a regular basis.
But if everyone in the world would just click into MGoBlog at least weekly then an article like this wouldn't be needed. I like the article because it seems to summarize what's been going on recently and the NYT is obviously widely distributed. I'm assuming any publicity is better than no publicity.

GREAT! I don't see him doing that unfortunately. He'll have to be told to leave.

|2 years 6 days ago||I am not in that camp||
I guess I've been just trying to figure out what UM's realistic options are...and they don't seem numerous. Aside from Mullen who is even a possibility? I don't see Mullen leaving the SEC so who? The OSU OC would be great but our fan base would have to be patient, which we haven't been recently.
|2 years 6 days ago||Helpful||
No Hoke for next year, absolutely correct unless all you've got available for this job is Mike Debord...then he wouldn't be so bad imo. I exaggerate with that example but not by much if Hackett whiffs on Harbaugh.
Obviously we'd like a candidate with a track record of success but who is that? You have to include age with that which disqualifies Miles for me...maybe not for you I guess. I'm assuming Mullen doesn't come north.
|2 years 6 days ago||Probably right||
and I did say "maybe".... I think Hoke must go but unless it's Harbaugh coming in we're going to be VERY uncertain about the next coach and his staff...at least I will be.
|2 years 6 days ago||Graham||
might be a good coach, but does anyone know? He's jumped around so much, so quickly that he seems to be an opportunist, not someone who makes a commitment. Seems like lots of the ND fan base wants Kelly fired, maybe he'd be available?
