I mean…LOL OSU QBs and so on…

I mean…LOL OSU QBs and so on…but this kinda feels a little like pre-draft “let’s tank this dude’s draft stock so he falls to us” crap that always gets thrown around every year by “anonymous league executives.”

Maybe they think the Ram’s…

Maybe they think the Ram’s pick that they own will be better anyway.

I don’t live in Denver but…

I don’t live in Denver but have travelled there enough times during football/basketball season that I’ve been to Jackson’s for games at least 3 times, and the Michigan crowd never disappoints. Usually pretty full, and the rooftop bar is pretty great. The food/beer selection is…fine? But that doesn’t really matter. No idea what’s in Boulder, but if the goal is hanging with Michigan fans, just catch an Uber and head to Jackson’s. It’s actually one of the more reliable alumni bars I’ve found around the country, as it seems like Denver has a lot of alums.

Good to see them back at it…

Good to see them back at it. I am curious about why it seems they’ve opted out of the American Solar Challenge race, though. It looks like ASC is still happening this year, and Michigan has historically dominated it, but we’re not a participant. Instead it seems like they’re not racing at all, but doing their own thing (albeit on a much longer course).

Quick update for others in…

Quick update for others in St. Louis who might be curious...we went to Lesters in LaDue and did run into a few other UM fans/alums. Not a huge contingent, but for a MAC matchup it was good to see at least a few. Not really a Michigan Bar per se, but it's a big place with plenty of tv's and seems to be a popular spot for college fan bases to meet up. Average taplist, but good food. We'll be back for more games and definitely some bigger matchups.

Thanks! That's the place we…

Thanks! That's the place we found on the alumni club page, so we'll check there first. Good to know there was a good group of fans last time, at least.

Thanks for the tip! I think…

Thanks for the tip! I think I'm going to take the plunge on a freezer. I did think about attempting the swamp cooler idea, but it seems like more trouble than it's worth. Great idea for the heating element too, I wasn't sure what I should use for that part of the rig.

I’m still new to the game,…

I’m still new to the game, but I brewed my 2nd batch ever recently which was essentially a step-by-step recreation of the Avogadro’s Old Ale recipe from Charlie Papazian’s book. I bottled some after initial fermentation, and so far the returns are...not great, but drinkable. Much like my first batch, it has a stale, yeast-like smell/taste reminiscent of beer that you might find in a beer-pong cup the morning after a party. I will be taking orders so be sure to snatch them up while supplies last!

I suspect my problems are rooted in the fact that I don’t currently have the means for temperature control during fermentation, other than just using a water bath and putting it in a closet. I live on the 2nd floor of an apartment building with no AC, and as a result, it got a bit too warm (75-80 degrees) and the yeast went crazy. As an experiment I reserved about half of the fermented wort in a smaller carboy and did a secondary fermentation for about 10 days while I was on vacation, and that is currently in the carbonating process. Hopefully it helps to smooth out the off flavors but I’m not super optimistic.

For those out there who have been at it a while, any ideas for a cheap temperature control setup? Thinking about getting a used chest freezer with a controller, but am open to suggestions.

Mo.

I mean, doesn’t he fit perfectly here? It’s the right spot in the draft, and he would add instant pass rush to the interior DL next to A’Shawn Robinson. I was really disappointed when that article came out a couple days ago with “sources” saying that the Lions “weren’t big fans of his game.” I mean wut? Otherwise...best player available.

...

They might as well just get rid of them instead of gradually making it irrelevant.

...

This post uses sound logic and evidence to make a clear, ironclad case in favor of Shea Patterson to be immediately eligible. It makes perfect sense.

So, how long before the NCAA denies it?

Yeah...

That has to be a mistake. Probably doesn’t know those lists are public, and needs a social media primer. Otherwise, I mean, it’s got to violate some kind of rule right?

Founders.

Beer for beer, Founders wins my taste buds. Backwoods Bastard is exceptional. I’m a little behind the times though, having lived out of state for 5 years or so. All I can get is Founders and the occasional New Holland Dragon’s Milk. Fortunately for me though, California has no shortage of phenomenal breweries, and I’m a long day trip from Russian River BC. Mmmmmmm Pliny The Elder.

Yeah.

Those are good points. But I guess recent history has me skeptical that they’ll find anyone better. Plus, if they find a guy who wants to force the team into a complete stylistic overhaul, as opposed to making some tweaks to a team that has some pieces to work with, they’re in for another brutal stretch of 5 win seasons. I’m not so sure it’s worth it.

IDK

I kinda think he should’ve gotten another year? Dude had a pretty good record, went to the playoffs twice. Meh, it’s the Lions and it’s about as good as it ever gets with them. Meanwhile, the Lions are going to be competing with a lot of other teams for a coach, and I’m not exactly thrilled at the prospect of being yet another team that fails miserably playing Bill Belichick Coaching Tree Roulette. That loss to the Bengals was brutal though, and the run game was miserable even for a pass-oriented team. So whatever I guess.

I mean, I'm not sure what that means as far as Peter's future, but there is zero chance that was an accident. Yikes.

...

If we're going outside of Michigan players for comparisons, the player that comes to mind for me is Amari Cooper.

...

"For some context, this is still before Mitch McGary committed. Levert and Albrecht wouldn't commit until the following March. Brady Hoke hadn't coached a game as the head coach of Michigan yet."

35 running plays in a row, for like infinity ypc if I remember right.

That may be true...

But even then, Higdon the most talented RB on the team? Ehhh...

...

Cool nugs. But, I have a really hard time believing that Karan Higdon is the strongest back on the team. De'Veon Smith is built like a brick shithouse and has about 20-30 lbs on him.

i dont know you guys

I think I'm going to go with Rolovich on this.  Just hear me oupppfffhhhHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Hmm.

I think by "starting at safety" Partridge meant "beginning his career at safety." Pretty sure MNB misinterpreted that quote.

...

Looks like Draymond is really taking that finals loss...

...hard.

Humboldt Crabs.

I live in Eureka, CA, which is very near the Humboldt Crabs...the longest continually operating collegiate summer league baseball team in the nation. No major league affiliations, and they keep their roster stocked with college guys who are off for the summer. It's cheap, it's weird, and the stadium is always packed. Also, they have a nightmare-inducing mascot.  What's not to like?

An underrated park...

Guadalupe Mountains NP in southwest Texas. McKittrick Canyon in the first week of November has some of the most unique and beautiful scenery I've ever seen...like a slice of Vermont in the desert. Not the biggest park ever, and prepare to do some desert hiking with no water sources. Worth it, though.

Meh...sort of.

I didn't follow the diet plan to the letter, but I did set a calorie cap and tried to make sure a reasonable percentage of those calories came from protein.  If you aren't trying to GET SWOLL, BRO, you don't need to eat 10 chicken breasts every day to get the protein you need. Food is incredibly important in the whole process, though, so don't slack off on that aspect.  You can work out until you're blue in the face, but you probably won't lose the weight you want if you eat like shit.

P90x

If you follow through on the whole thing, you'll definitely see results. Not because there is anything special about the stuff they do, but because you'll be doing an intense workout an hour and a half a day, 6 days a week. Lots of routines will have the same effect if you do put that much time and consistent effort into it. The problem with it, and any video routine, is that they don't really set you up for long term success once they end. That kind of intensity is hard to maintain. Case in point, I lost like 25 lbs doing p90x, and promptly gained it all back within 6 months because I had no plan for what to do afterward. I've since been more consistent with working out, but that is my cautionary tale. So, if you can avoid that problem, go for it. It'll kick your ass but you'll be in better shape at the end of it.

Welp.

The man certainly knows his audience.

Yeah...

The more I read it, the more I think that's probably true.

...

I mean, I could be wrong here, but are we sure this is directed at Harbaugh and not the NCAA itself? Or something else? That is so vague I honestly have no idea what the hell he is referring to.

...

Kentucky moved to California?

So strange.

When you're 18 years old, "when you were growing up" is like, 5...maybe 10 years prior.  That length of time feels like a century when you're that young.  Now I feel like I've had farts go on longer than 5 years.

Man.

We are one Willie Henry away from having a full-blown Scrooge McDuck vault of defensive lineman.

me irl
Hey.

Don't saddle me with that kind of guilt.  It's just an expression.

WOOOOOOOOOOO.

That should boost the ol' tourney resume.

ALSO WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

but but but

what about manball? HOW COULD YOU BRADY?!

This seems like a pretty even matchup, both in terms of overall strength of the teams and style of play.  I approve.

Greg Mattison.

When it was announced that Greg Mattison was retained by Harbaugh, I had assumed that it was mostly because he still had one year remaining on his contract, and that there was a high likelihood that he would retire at the end of this season.  Am I correct here, or does he still have more time on the contract?

Wake up y'all, it's gameday.

I am rounding out the tail end of a night shift on the west coast and will be staying up to watch the game after work. The Game requires certain sacrifices. Now get your asses out of bed, east coasters, it's fucking game day.

...

You may be thinking of Mike Vrabel.

Still worth it.

Still worth it.

Dammit.

Yours was even animated, too.  I am defeated.

Obligatory

Sore loser for sure.

Especially early in the year, and when Michigan is good enough to have high level bowl or championship aspirations. I sulked haaaaard after this year's MSU game.
