Harbaugh vs. Rolovich in QB Challenge: Who Ya Got?!
UH Head Coach Nick Rolovich took to twitter to challenge Harbaugh to a friendly QB competition before the game on Saturday. Harbaugh's response?
“Yeah, I’d be open to it,” Harbaugh said in response to a question this morning on the Big Ten Conference media conference call.
“Quarterback shootout? Interesting. I’ll see what he has in mind. Yeah, I’d be glad to talk to Nick about that. Sounds like a challenge, huh?”
Harbaugh then said, “I think I know what competition he is talking about. So, that would be interesting. Yeah, I’d be open to it.”
Of course Harbaugh would never reject a challenge. He's the most competitive guy I've ever seen. My prediction? Harbaugh wins this QB shootout in blowout fashion, as a prelude to what's going to happen on the field.
Edit: For reference, Rolovich was QB at UH in 2001, then had a journeyman career, bouncing from the Denver Broncos, to NFL Europe, AFL, and the German Football League.
(I'm still taking Harbaugh)

I wonder what they're referring to. So like before the game? It conflicts his main two characteristics with each other: competitiveness vs. laser focus on the task of winning the next game

I'll take #badassmotherfucker over all comers!

Nick better hope Harbaugh wins this thing, or he might try to hang 90 on them in the game that matters...

I think I'm going to go with Rolovich on this. Just hear me oupppfffhhhHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Can anyone best Harbaugh's success as a player and head coach. I'm sure someone comes close, but I can think of anyone right now.

Probably Spurrier.

If you are referring to college football, the only person that comes to mind is Spurrier. If you are talking about football (including NFL) or other sports, I think there's a pretty good list that Harbaugh would be added to.

I mean, Mike Ditka won 2 titles as a coach and one as a player. He was also a 5x Pro Bowler and a top-10 pick to both the NFL and AFL. That's pretty okay.

Ditka vs a hurricane? Ditka.

I hope they do the "through the uprights" challenge, and of course my personal favorite:

I like to imagine him doing that ato home in his backyard until his wife calls him in for dinner.

You know Harbaugh went to the nearest car garage, got a used tire, hung it from a tree in his backyard, and is slinging footballs through it right now as we speak.

Used car lot? He took the tire off his wife's car and is doing it right now.

Haha, you're probably right

Sounds like some good hearted fun during warm up between the coaches. Why not! I'd show up early to watch.
August 30th, 2016 at 7:36 PM ^
To make it interesting do Wormley and Gary get to rush the QBs as part of the challenge? On the one hand, I think they'd be inclined not to go after Harbaugh full speed, but on the other hand, he'd probably get mad at them if they gave anything less than full effort.
August 30th, 2016 at 7:48 PM ^
Harbaugh's got 15 years on Rolovich, but I still think I take Harbaugh on sheer detemination and competitiveness.
Edit: Yeah, gonna go with Harbaugh here, no contest.

Or the fact that Harbaugh was a good NFL QB while Rolovich was a NFL Europe journeyman.

Brings to mind the story of Harbaugh, head coach of San Francisco, suiting up to practice at QB when one of the QBs was injured. The players were stunned to see this old guy dressed, wearing beat-up high top cleats.

Seems like something recruits would like.
August 30th, 2016 at 10:53 PM ^
Harbaugh once stood up a recruit on a visit because he was playing 1 on 1 basketball to the death against DJ Durkin. The story goes the recruit eventually found Harbaugh and Durkin on the court amd waited and watched both men getting progressively more bloody and bruised until he finally gave up and left. Harbaugh is a special kind of crazy.

This screams 'TRAP' to me... Rolovich had all summer to practice whatever it is he has in mind. He probably came up with this hair-brained idea at the camp on Oahu. He can use it as a way to inject some light-hearted fun into an obvious beatdown trip, which could turn it into some kind of motivational ploy. Not the kind where UH has a shot - they know they don't every bit as much as we know they don't. But the kind that gives the team a good time on the trip regardless of the woodshed.
If this is true - good on him! If it's not, if he's going into a competition against Jim MF Harbaugh blindly and spur of the moment, well... Good luck, young man, you're going to need it...
