Sparty and Wisky... who would we rather take a trophy from?

Submitted by chewieblue on

I realize that assuming a win against OSU is a luxury we don't have, but in the event we do win today, who would we rather play in the title game tomorrow?

I have to believe there are reasons for rooting for either team.

Wisconsin is obviously the lesser team and would therefore be the better match up for us in many ways.  I know everyone at ESPN and most national media outlets is pulling for another Ohio-Little bro' rematch, so wouldn't a Wisconsin-UM game just make Doug Gottlieb's hairline retreat a little bit faster?  This prospect alone may be reason enough to pull for Bucky.

Sparty on the other hand, oh Sparty..... how we love to loathe thee.  Apart from not being able to ever root for them, the only reason for not wanting to play them tomorrow is the fear that another loss to the personified inferiority complex that is MSU and their whiny, media-darling-of-a-coach would possibly be just a bit too much for a cautiously hopeful Michigan fan base to bear.

Just interested to hear everyone's thoughts on semi-final #1  (Including the inevitable, "just shut up and worry about Ohio" remarks).

Assuming we win the CG and not just play, I would love to take the trophy from Sparty. Seeing their reactions after we got a share of the Title, I can only imagine what would happen if we beat them for the Tourney title. Another riot?

Which means a win over Ohio State and then a win over Michigan State. In my opinion, that's the only true way to settle the three way tie for the B1G championship, and I think we can win both.

I don't care about ESPN. I care about beating our rivals. I love beating our rivals. I love demoralizing them. I mean, who wouldn't want to see this (again):

You know, except with us causing this directly this time...instead of indirectly.

First beat Ohio. Then I would love to snatch the Big Ten Championship from Sparty, unless they fall to Wisconsin.  Then I would love to beat the Badgers.

It would be great to beat Ohio and then MSU to win the tournament.  It is the perfect tie breaker when referring to the shared big ten regular season championship.

I don't care who wins. It would be funny to see a Spartan meltdown in a loss against Wisconsin. They might hate Bo Ryan more than they hate Michigan. But it would be awesome to see the Spartan meltdown if we beat them in the conference championship game. Either way, weve gotta beat the Buckeyes.

However, I would also enjoy watching them lose in the semi.  Let me put it this way...I will enjoy the game tonight more(win or lose) if a spartan loss is already in the bag.

If we beat OSU and MSU we not only win the conference tourney but end up 2-1 against both beating of them at home and at a neutral site and losing away. Then it makes it hard for anyone to talk shit about us being co-champs.
Plus that helps our seeding.

They can talk shit all they want, that's not going to stop that banner from getting hung in the rafters next season.

Frankly, I think it's fantastic that it hurts them so much that they had to share the conference title with us.  The rhetoric after we beat them for the third straight time back in January was that MIchigan wasn't for real and that we'd fade to the middle of the pack by the end of the year.  The fact that we didn't, with the team we have, has to worry them.  Deep down they know Michigan isn't going away and that the good times are over for them.

..and another newsflash for the haters in East Lansing, Beilein and his guys are going to be doing more banner hanging in the years to come, so get used to it.

Serious question.  How is this ANY different than the mentality behind MSU and their football program?

Doubters saying they'll fade away and they didn't, the team "reloading" and staying consistent for several seasons, and now being poised to hang many more titles down the road...  the logic goes both ways.  But every season there are people who doubt the legitimacy of either program.  If it gets settled, it really should be settled on both fronts because both programs look like they're here to stay for awhile.

Is the question assuming we win no matter what if we make it to tomorrow? If so then I obviously want to beat Sparty, but if the question is who do we have a better chance of beating it's Wisconsin.  We match up terribly with MSU, I fear that we wouldn't be able to grab an defensive rebound with Nix, Payne, and Green out there.

If we were to win the final I'd rather beat MSU than Wisco to take the title

If we were to lose the final I'd rather lose to Wisonsin than MSU

If we were to lose to Ohio today I'd rather Wisconsin win to avoid Sparty getting their redemption

If I could have sex with any woman I'd pick Shakira because her hops don't lie and she seems really nice

My new Michigan philosophy is "Beat Everyone". Let everyone else figure out why they do or don't want to play US while we worry about rafter space and the structural integrity of Crisler from holding all of the new banners.

So the NC State vs UNC game is on TV here on ESPN AND CBS.  Stupid living in NC and having the same game on 2 channels instead of the Big 10....so mad!

I want Wisconsin to win today.  I think it will be very difficult for us to beat OSU and MSU on back-to-back days (coming on the heels of an overtime game with Minnesota).  Wisconsin isn't as strong overall and play at a slower pace, which could be good for tired legs.

really doesn't matter anymore now does it? Sparty is trouncing the Badgers. So we need to win, and we can pull off the greatest basketball weekend ever by beating Ohio, then Sparty back to back games to win the BTT. What a weekend it can be if this all happens, then add the huge hockey win last night, and so far one commit its goona be great.

It looks a little presumptuous after getting dominated in every fathomable way by OSU today.  The good news is that we over-achieved this season (which is obviously better than under-achieving).  Nantz & Kerr were stunned at the gap in talent between our two squads and that we finished tied for first in the Big Ten.  What we saw today was Michigan with a True Freshman PG (rather than the MVP/Superman that Burke was the rest of the entire season).
