Spartan Homer Denies History and the "This Era doesn't Count" Crowd Sucks

Submitted by First Gen Wolverine on March 30th, 2021 at 6:05 PM

Recently, I went on the Wikipedia Michigan vs MSU Basketball Rivalry page and I found that a Spartan Homer is trying to invalidate any of the games that occurred pre MSU joining the Big Ten. Basically, the user keeps deleting any games pre-1949 under the guise of non-con doesn't count. Link because it probably already switched back:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michigan%E2%80%93Michigan_State_men%27s_basketball_rivalry

Obviously, it's Wikipedia and it sucks as a site because people can vandalize any site at any time, but I really don't understand why both MSU and Ohio State fans try to do this in both football and basketball. It just seems cowardly to not be upfront about the games that occurred, even if they were long, long ago. Just wanted to basically say that these fans are my least favorite because they enable this form of censorship and having to constantly switch it back is really frustrating. I know this is making a mountain out of a molehill, but if I never had to deal with these types of people ever again, I would be very happy.

They’re just insecure.  It’s bad enough that their schools are inferior academically, they cannot abide any evidence they are inferior athletically too.  Feel sorry for them.

Probably should delete my MGoBlog account after this, lol.

It just pisses me off so much when people do this and I didn't have anywhere else to post this. I legit don't know any other place to find the scores of earlier games and I wanted to compile a lot of the stats from the data.

Then go to an authoritative source instead of whining about trolls.

For example:

https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/michigan/

But as Bentley says, prior to 1959 game details weren't consistently or accurately recorded so YMMV.

Have you tried not giving a fuck? Give it a try. It works really well.

You may get a ton of shit for the post and your attempts on Wiki, but I respect your efforts to uphold and acknowledge accurate historical records.  That said, the internet, and Wiki more specifically, are probably not going to give you any satisfaction in those regards.

Yeah, pigheaded people who ignore the facts that don't fit their agenda are the worst.

(Hmm, that sounds familiar. Where have I seen that recently?)

Ignore the haters. They're being needlessly dickish about something you're passionate about, which is something that is common among posters on this board. I upvoted your post because I too like to go to wikipedia to check rivalry scores and I too think it's ridiculous that someone tries to remove pre-Big Ten games. That's just stupid. Keep up the good work of correcting those that are trying to censor/remove history!

The rivalry has been evidenced both on the court and off the court. Among the off the court elements of the rivalry, recruiting of basketball talent has resulted in battles, the most notable of which turned into the University of Michigan basketball scandal, the investigation of which began when both schools sought the services of Mateen Cleaves. Michigan leads the all-time non-conference series, however, Michigan State leads the series since joining the Big Ten in 1950. The main rivalry of the series began once Michigan State joined the Big Ten.

Regardless, the above blurb is a really dumb thing to include in the very first paragraph of the Wikipedia entry.

Can we please add this rule to the MGoBlog FAQ?  "No posts about a Wikipedia page being modified".  Just add it to this section.

UNWELCOME, KTHX

  • Politics
  • Drew Sharp, Ace Williams, Mike Valenti. Saying stupid and/or false things about Michigan to get Michigan fans upset is a tried and true way to phish for clicks. Let's not feed the trolls.
  • Bewbs/Objectification of women. Whatever misogynistic "standard guy stuff" gets tolerated on other sports sites you visit will NOT fly here.
  • No "A <insert rival name> fan, edited Wikipedia" posts allowed.
