So... who are you cheering for?

Submitted by Clarence Beeks on September 12th, 2020 at 9:34 AM

Interesting segment on the show before Game Day going through who the Big Ten and PAC teams should cheer for this season (it was funny to watch MSU get roasted), which led to the conversation in my house of who to cheer for this season. I hadn't thought about this for one moment before that segment and now... I need to settle on a (temporary) team.  Who are you all going with?

I've thought long and hard about this...

I'm taking Carolina.

Always been my 2nd favorite school. Chapel Hill is Ann Arbor-esqe. I've always liked Carolina.

Also, Texas. Again, the most Michigan-ish school/Ann Arbor-esqe city in the deep south. Plus they have Tarik Black, and he had the worst luck of anyone I've ever seen. He could've been one of the best WRs in school history. He'll be in the NFL.

My mid-major team is Charlotte. I like them because they're new.

Give me UNC, Texas and Charlotte.

I lost a lot of respect for UNC with the academic scandal and their response to it.

Texas is interesting and I guess I would like to see Black do well.  While I agree he had some bad luck, I also don't think he did himself any favors with his attitude before he left (if the rumors are true).  We will see if he takes this opportunity to step up and be the #1 he's capable of.

There was chatter around the program that Black wasn't putting in the work and was already thinking he would leave after last year for the NFL.  Who knows....easy to speculate when he isn't getting snaps and isn't being productive, impossible to know what was really going on. But he went from our #1 his freshman year to #4 last year.  Hope he has a good year at Texas and gets his career back on track.

Ragin Cajuns. Met some awesome people from UL Lafayette years ago at DARPA. They cooked a huge crawfish boil for everyone at the event. It was delicious and pretty damn nice of them to do considering all of their other responsibilities going with their self-driving vehicle.

Did Gameday really ponder this?  Because that's stupid.  I'm not going to temporarily adopt a team to root for this year. I have plenty of teams I hate and joyously root against.

I'll root for you if you're playing Notre Dame but once that's over, I have no use for you unless you're playing another team I hate.

Would like to see Warren and Schlissel both jettisoned, pronto !!

Now regarding football,... pulling for Duke to upset the Irish !!

Clemson since it’s up to the road.

Hoping ND finishes middle of the pack in the ACC; getting surprised by Duke, handled by UNC, and embarrassed by Clemson.

What a stupid September feeling Saturday.

Kind of a loaded question but I'll go patriotic and go with Army, Navy and Air Force. I watched the Army-MTU game last week and Army is scary good. They execute that triple option very well.

As far as the major colleges go, no preference at this time. I'll need to see a few teams in action and then decide.

Florida State has been my team B since the Charlie Ward days, so I’ll throw my support behind them, however the Lane Train in Oxford with passengers Chris partridge and DB Sr is very intriguing.

USF. Go Bulls! Got my BA and MBA there. Up and coming research institution (Moffitt Cancer Center is on campus). Moved down here in time for their inaugural football game in 1997, where they won 80-3. Marlon Mack is my most recent favorite Bull.

Might as well root for a team that can win a championship for once.... Seems like a great plan!

People that complain about or refuse to try being bandwagon fans are depriving themselves of a lot of pleasure unnecessarily. Not saying they're wrong, but why not root for a winner every once in a while? ??‍♂️

It's a bummer this doesn't feel like a typical, exciting September college football weekend. I love college football but kinda hate most teams out there. And many of them are in states that have done a horrible job handling coronavirus and many of the campuses are currently experiencing bad outbreaks.

I believe football can played this year and it can be done safely. But, it's too early to start the season under the current conditions. So, I'm having trouble getting behind it. Any game with a crowd, I will flat-out refuse to watch.

But, I guess I'll pull for Syracuse and Iowa St. (no fans - but ISU had to be shamed into not having fans).

Married into a big UGa family, with lots of Bama in the prior generations.  Which means down deep inside I want them both to lose (can't think of them being even more insufferable), but I at least have a reason to attach ... and turn on the TV.

Clemson ... love Dabo, have so many family friends whose kids are there /  have recently been there.  It's a fun story, and they are legit super-excited to be on the mountaintop.

Otherwise, I pretty much hate every team that is not Michigan.  I liked Stanford when they didn't steal recruits from us who mattered.

Nobody.  Can't even watch.  Call me selfish.  I don't care.

College Gameday was depressing today.  Turned it on for about 5 minutes.

I've never been so excited to rather watch my girls play soccer than to watch college football.  I never thought that would come out of my mouth.  2020
