Some random guy on the internet? Or somebody who actually knows something real?
I'm a member over at Scout.com and Tom Beaver insinuated that there could be big news by the end of the week. From a kid that no one would guess even if they had ten guesses, because this particular kid has never talked about an early commitment. Tom ended by saying he thinks either the kid commits end of this week or waits until signing day.
IF THIS IS TOO MUCH INFO FROM A PAYWALLED POST, MODS PLEASE DELETE.

Funny you should say that, in my years as a scout member Tom would say that all the time. Every week that clown says something cryptic like that and then nothing else. Then when something happens he comes out and says, see, i told you.
He is an after the fact guy, loves to toot his horn. He is a blatant liar too, and the reason I dropped scout.
Thank God for MGOBLOG

Hello Tom Beaver

Hello Double Post
for speaking up about something completely obvious to me, but everyone else (at least on GBW) is afraid to say.
In order to be as vague as possible, I recently asked Tom to clarify a recent statement he made and was asked by others to leave the site. What is this Nazi Germany? I'm not allowed to ask someone to clarify their completely ambigious (and pretty obviously BS) statement without the threat of being silenced. Good grief!
If Sam Webb wasn't at GBW, I'd be gone in a second. That site is ridiculous!

From a former scout member. Tom Beaver is full of shit.

I am aware of this, just trying to answer Don's question. Now, whether you should call Tom "some random guy on the internet" or "somebody that actually knows something real" is certainly up for debate.

Yeah, his son Shavodrick seemed sort of flaky too.

couldn't stand Tom. To each their own.

a critique of recruiting experts section under the Useful Stuff tab. Not sure how it'd work, just floating the idea out there, but it would be great to have some idea of who is worth listening to and who we should ignore.
On a side note, I'm happy to see Brandon Brown join the staff. I followed him on The M Block and he seemed to be one of the experts who was truly in the know.

He's not infallible—and Sam would never claim he is—but I don't think there's another Michigan recruiting guy who's more personally connected to recruits and their families than Sam is.

The guys at 247 (old ThisIsMichiganFootball) know what they're doing too
You guys, I think you were a little hard on the Beaver. But I guess so was Eddie Haskell, Wally and Ms. Cleaber

I know being vague is part of the job description, but they can make stuff up for page views and hide behind the fact that unnamed mystery recruit changed his mind. While I was at scout, Beaver did this all the time.

I learned nothing.
An unlikely recruit may commit this week or on signing day. Sweet!
I got one for you. A likely recruit may commit in September. Book it.

"Tom ended by saying he thinks either the kid commits end of this week or waits until signing day."
Huh? I predict the stock market will go up or it will go down. Pay me.

Dude is dead-on. There is no doubt UM will get a commitment from a highly rated recruit sometime between now and signing day. Utterly amazing.
about the new seat cushions and kneeling pads?
No inside dope but by piecing together various things from the UM blogosphere and whatnot, I think that there was a belief in some circles that Malik McDowell was going to commit to UM soon. I don't think it is actually going to happen, though.
I thought from everything I read here (that included what had been said elsewhere as well) was that it was someone that we weren't in the lead for previously and the BBQ pushed UM from essentially nowhere, to the head of the pack for the specific recruit and that this development was "huge".
Given everything that was said I think many people thought it was the glennville guys.

tippy toes!!!
You must be new to recruiting. There are a lot of false alarms.
rumors were a potential commit from Malik McDowell which have since been debunked
I don't have anything against Tom Beaver, but I'm smelling clickbait. That statement is so loose you could easily cram Charlie Weis on a Twinkie bender through it.

I forget precisely where it did, but I think was from Rivals.

I accept your challenge because mmmmmmmm twinkie

TomVH insinuated this as well, so it wasn't nothing..

All I saw Tom say was scuttlebutt.
Scuttle. Butt. One of my favorite words in the English language.

He got a little more specific later. I suppose it's pay-walled info but he alluded to a more specific timeline where something may or may not happen within a week or two
Scuttlebutt.

I thought it was that Fournette was going to run around the world a few times against our current rotation and turn back time so he could attend the BBQ and then commit. But it turns out that comic books, movies and some recruiting experts mislead us sometimes.

A writer from 11 Warriors also mentioned something about Michigan landing a player from Ohio in the near future... pretty much everyone assumed he was talking about Shaun Crawford.
August 2nd, 2013 at 10:45 AM ^
Yeah, where's the rich stuff, Mikey?
August 2nd, 2013 at 11:13 AM ^
We've got guesses ranging from Malik to somebody from Cleveland Glenville to Shaun Crawford to somebody you'd never guess, with sources ranging from Tom Beaver to TomVH to Rivals to Steve Lorenz.
Just a week ago some people were assuring us that Leonard Fournette was already in Ann Arbor.
In other words, just another day on the internet.

It's enough for me, but then I don't have an addictive personality. It's clear that recruiting news is like crack or meth to others.
I used to do a little, but a little wouldn't do it, so the little got more and more.
