there have only been a few true terrible casts in snl history (in my lifetime). My starting to watch was right before Farley and Sandler got there and it was ok. Once they got rid of many in favor of Sandler, Farley, Spade, etc it was awesome for many years. Then they had a year or two with people who went on to individual fame but made a bad show. Then, Ferrell and all them came in and it stayed great for a long while. Then, a down year and they brought in the Lonely Island guys, Wiig, etc and it's been good since. It goes in waves but this cast is good. The episode was not very good, surprisingly. JL is hot and known to be funny and down to Earth but she was average. Musical guest is a Family of the Year rip-off and the sketches were pretty poor. Still, I've seen some great ones lately.

That there will be that many "best of" moments for the last few seasons.

I do wonder though if the real reason SNL isn't perceived as it used to be is because general societies sense of humor has become more crude (lack of a better word). Movies and the Internet have provided us all with unedited humor that can go over the top with no repercussions.

My formative SNL years were during the reign of Sandler, Spade, Farley, Myers, Carvey and Hartman (I loved Phil Hartman. News Radio is one of the most underrated sitcoms ever, but I digress).  During that time I remember hearing from my Mother about how it was nowhere near as good as it was with Murray, Aykroyd, Chase and Ratner, or even when they had Murphy, Piscopo and Crystal.

So, people have been saying this about SNL being better 10-15 years ago, since its 10th or 15th year on the air.

Plus 100 for that reference. Plus it had Dave Foley, my favorite from Kids in the Hall.

Hartman was a huge loss to the comedy world...just think of the Simpsons voices he did in addition to everything else. He was a great straight man with perfect comedy timing.

I don't think the storyline can top the call from the presumed Kekau in which she explained that she had to fake her death to avoid the drug dealers.  Finding out when Te'o really knew isn't going to keep my interest.

Now if the drug dealers were real and they were after Te'o now, then I'd tune in for the next episode on the same bat channel.

To each his own...

this should be so easy to make fun of and they barely made me laugh... they are so lazy and pathetic compared to the comedians before them...

are like every old man in the world who says "[baseball/quality of building construction/ education/ ettiquette/ art/ music/ television] was SO much better back in my day, sonny...now get off my lawn."

People have been complaining about SNL casts since the second season-- they're never as good as the old days.

jdon and McKayla Maroney are not impressed.

you think will ferrell would do that lame ass interview?  Sandler, spade and farley woudl have actually played out manti with the letters or some type of 'ghost' spoof?    Go back to Eddie murphy or chevy chase, those guys would have come up with a much better idea...

in my opinion stand up comedy is very good right now but skits and movies suffer from a lack of new or original ideas.  It goes in waves, but right now physical comedy and situational comedy is very weak if you ask me...

Well, i thought the weekend update segment was funny, wherein Seth Meyers, the news anchor, with the background image of Lance Armstrong, said, "Lance Armstrong admitted to blood doping in the past in order to gain an unfair advantage during his Tour de France victories, breaking the heart of the one guy who had still believed he wasn't a cheater." The image then changed to a clueless appearing Te'o. (Paraphrased, not actual SNL quote).

The best part of the SNL skit was the "Notre Dame 1949 National Champions" football displayed prominently in the background.

Nothing epitomizes Notre Dame more than that.  Well Done.
