Shane Morris is Now a 5 Star (Updated)

Submitted by hart20 on

Shane Morris is now a 5-star on Rivals. Let us rejoice and rain praise upon him. But let it be known, Mike Farrell still hates Michigan.

You can see the number of stars on his profile: http://rivals.yahoo.com/michigan/football/recruiting/player-Shane-Morri…

Other commits in the Rivals 100 should have their rankings update as well, if someone at a computer would like to list them below, I'd be happy to paste them up here.

Shane Morris: Was 22, now 17

Derrick Green-13

LaQuon Treadwell-23

Henry Poggi: Was 52, now 58

Mike McCray: Was 55, now 81

Patrick Kugler: Was 73, now 88

Kyle Bosch: Was 77, now 92

Chris Fox, Dymonte Thomas no longer in top 100.

Thanks to DCAlum and AAB for putting the updates together.

Also, you are defending Dilfer (guy who snubbed Shane) on a Michigan blog and are getting upvotes for it? Never thought I would see the f*cking day.

Maybe because most people here are rational and realize that 7 on 7 QB rankings, whether you're snubbed or not, don't mean shit. Holding a grudge and bitching about Dilfer is just stupid

Bro why don't you just type "fucking". If you're going to go through the effort of putting f******, then I could see how you'd feel a little better not cussing and all. There's kids out there for gosh sakes. Please explain any logical reson to put "f*cking", I mean c'mon man. What are you, 12?

I don't know when Trent Dilfer took over the Elite 11 but since he has I've noticed he seems to use the event as a forum to get underlooked guys exposure.  Case and point, last year Neal Burcham entered the event with only one offer from FCS Central Arkansas.  Dilfer started hyping the kid and included him in his Elite 11 and voile, Neal gets offered by Arkansas St, SMU, and Cincinnati.  That and two MSU QBs have made it in the past 4-5 years.

I would agree with that. He took over the event in 2011 and in the past two years it certainly seems like he's been using it to hype up some under the radar prospects and get them exposure as shown by a UCF commit "winning" it this year.

You didn't really voice your opinion on whether or not you think that's ok, but I really don't have an issue with it. Shane is good. Many, many people seem to know that he is very good and he will have his college paid for 4-5 years as a result of being good. Being named one of the best 11 QB's at an almost-but-not-really football competition isn't going to change that, but if someone gets more exposure and a scholarship offer because Dilfer hypes them a bit more than they should be, the benefit from that is a lot higher than an ego boost for someone like Shane.

Zeke Pike was named an Elite 11 QB and he's going to be a tight end(!!!) at Louisville(!!!), which isn't even the school he was planning on attending less than a month ago. There's no benefit to being an Elite 11 QB when your goals are "Be a really good QB at real football" and "make the league". None.

I think the goal of the competition should be to rank order the best 11 QBs from a given recruiting class.  It is possible that during the short camp Shane wan't among the top 11 performers, but I don't think anyone should be left out just because they have locked up an offer to an upper tier school and another guy hasn't.

I think it is great that Dilfer gets kids exposure, i.e. Burcham who probably would never be heard of again at Central Arkansas will now probably threaten some NCAA passing records in June Jones pass happy offense at SMU.

Beat me to it, I was just thinking when I read his comment that there was a USC class from back a while that had a crazy number of 5-stars (I only looked at Rivals.com back then). Having 8 5-star players in one class is just downright heinous. There was an even 25 5-star players to Rivals that year and they raked in 8 of them, just ridiculous.

I'm now prancing around my house like a school girl.

Seriously, should have been a 5 star from the start. About time.

They do put too much emphasis on camps (thus Derrick Green being ranked all the way up at #13 overall), but Helmholdt also mentioned that Thomas is essentially a high school linebacker who's going to move back to safety in college.  I guess Rivals has some resignations about how that will work out.  Personally, I don't see it as much of an issue, because he's kind of a spur linebacker and he'll be a SS in college, so the position change won't be THAT huge of a deal.

Congratulations to Shane, for given the distribution of stars among the top 50 ranked recruiting classes, this promotion makes him a 1%-er basically, and this as it should be.
