Semi OT: Some sweet CFB helmet concepts (but the Michigan one is bad)

Submitted by YoungGeezy on

A creative design firm redesigned the helmets of a few iconic college football programs and IMO did a fantastic job with a lot of them. I'm not generally impressed with these remixes, but this round was pretty good with the exception of ours, which looks a lot like Missouri's. Obviously the best can't be topped (there's clearly no improving on the winged helmet) but for some of the others I think they are actually a decent uppgrade.

What do you guys think?

Edit: I agree with all of you that the Michigan one is bad, I just put it there for reference.

So just getting bigger version of school lettering and pasting them onto helmets is what passes for "creative" these days?

Yuck.

The only good ones are LSU, Duke and Arkansas.

It looks like Missouri's to me as well. I'm fine with Uniformz to an extent, but you have to blend "swag" with tradition. This abandons that in favor of swag (and bad swag at that).

EDIT: Whoever did the Georgia Bulldogs' helmet should be fired. That's just awful. It's like somebody had an OK concept (let's make the facemask the dog's ferocious mouth!) and then refused to give up when it became apparent that the concept WOULD NOT WORK.

Could be interesting as a "practice helmet".  The lacrosse team uses practice helmets, and gets a new design each year.  The winged helmet is only for special occassions such as game days.

Such as Texas, Arkansas and others because there is a tie to the original helmet.

How the HELL does one do even an artistic thought of a Michigan helmet without putting wings on it?  So really, we have a University of Memphis helmet with "yellow" and blue.

Others aren't really changed such as Nebraska's.  What the crap is going on with Tennessee's?  A dog on the side?  It's an alternate mascot logo.

Some of those deserve serious consideration, though the one for UM is clearly not one of them. UK should switch their helmets to that design pronto. Auburn should too. Others look really bad, though I could see most of them being a reality at some point.

Actually, I was shocked Oregon hadn't used this one already. Not to worry, of course - Phil Knight has seen this site already, I assume, and someone is already creating the necessary mold to make this a reality. All the while, he's kicking himself that he couldn't figure that one out first.

As for ours, I am simply glad it is someone's concept. I personally don't share the same view, that's all. I will put it politely.

Also, Oklahoma State's....I laughed, sorry.

Did you notice whose helmet is missing from the list?  Go take another look to understand why the RCMB folks are NOT up in arms about helmet changes like we are.  Sparty continues to be an afterthought.

I didn't see one helmet that I thought looked good.  I also can't wait until the fauxbonfiber  (fake carbon fiber. Yes, I did just invent that word) fad is dead too.  So sick of seeing it on everything.  What made most of these designs horrible, was all they did was take the school logo and enalrge it so it wraped around the helmet.

Also, know your damn audience, why would anyone in there right mind use any shade of gray, silver or chrome on a Michigan helmet.  I didn't see any maize or blue on Ohio State's helmet.

But they did use lens flare brushes, those always make shit look great. /s
