Saturday "It's Too $#%&ing Hot" Drinkin' Thread

Submitted by MaizeAndBlueWahoo on

It's up well over 90 degrees, or as they say down South, a nice cool fall day.  This is why I can't live in Texas.  Hooray that I recently bought a house with central air.  Regardless, I've spent the day productively.  Out running errands in the heat and being sure to include stores near the Gratiot "It's Not A Cruise This Year" classic cars show.  Got home and hung a bathroom mirror, two blinds, a paper towel rack, and ten doorstops.  Success!  On a hot summer day like this I don't need the latest from a tiny little beachside nanobrewery, I just need a simple Bell's while I listen to "Coast of Carolina".

Tell us all about it if you're having a better day than that.

Well, um, actually a pretty nice little Saturday, we're going to go to Home Depot. Yeah, buy some wallpaper, maybe get some flooring, stuff like that. Maybe Bed, Bath, & Beyond, I don't know, I don't know if we'll have enough time.

Try going native in the Arctic.

Drinking a New Belgium Citradelic. Something about manual labor under a full sun that makes fruity IPA's hit the spot.  Otherwise, no thanks; hand me that porter or stout.

Pontoon boat on wolverine lake

So like... Hot? Had not noticed. Kegerator is stocked, cooler is chilled and anchor is set. Also, got some ribs brined for tomorrow and in the midst of making some pastrami.

Things are a-ok.

It's a balmy 91 here in AA. Lost power about a 2 hours ago. I got a cooler full of founders dry hope pale ale, and sipping on a Hendrix gin martini. Backyard, in the shade. Life is good!

Been working outside since 9am, just wrapped up opening the pool, mowing the lawn, weeding, trimming, and probably other stuff all while the smoker was going. Makes the beer that much better. Kona Brewing Longboard Lager.

95 here in Ellicott City, MD.

Had a couple of local Manor Hill Passionfruit IPAs while watching the 3 Lions choke against Russia.

Have to sober up a little before dinner in Baltimore (Flemings).

I have family in houston, and whenever it breaks 90 here in Detroit I think to myself: if only it would get about 20 degrees hotter, and then rain. Yeah, southerners freak out about winter up north, but I'll take it over 6 months of southern summer every time. Tonight i'll drink mimosas in the back yard and grill.

Pool is opened and will be ready for swimming soon. No chores today. kids out of the house until Sunday night, wife taking a nap.

Just me and the pit bull lounging by the pool with a few Sculpin and Dogfish Head 90 minute.

I might do a couple chores tomorrow.

My wife is the fucking bomb. And I'm not just saying that (she doesn't even read this blog). Married almost 20 years. Got married in High School.

Dinner ready when I get home from work. She likes strip clubs more than I do and loves giving me BJs to wake me up in the morning (with a fresh cup of coffee for me too). Says if it weren't for me, she be a lesbian. She likes threesomes with other women. Didn't care when I saw a "lady of the night" in Amsterdam. It was actually her idea. She was more concerned with how good the weed was there. Doesn't buy shoes or stupid shit and is less materialistic than me, and I hate "stuff."

She never says no when I want to golf. In fact she goes with me and sits and cheers me on. She has zero problem with Saturday and Sunday being "Dads football time" from late August - Feb as long as I spend time with her when the games are over. She loves going to Tigers/Red Wings games. She likes the same drugs I do and never bitches when I drink.

She is a Goddamned unicorn,
The woman all men wish they had. And I tell her so all the time.

And yes people, she is a real person, I am not making this shit up. Her fucking awesomeness is why i am still excited to see her and get butterflies in my stomach when I'm about to walk in the door from work.

And for some reason, she is utterly infatuated with me. She tells me she still has a head over heels high school crush on me.

End thesis on how dope my old lady is.

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't it winter down under there 43 seems about right unless you're in the dog days of winter. Yeah it's 90*+ here but this only lasts a couple three weeks usually. If I remember Fla. summers correctly every damn day its warmer than this (bout 92 to 96) and it lasts a couple three mos. I should say this was between Clearwater and Tarpon Springs. I was a brick laborer there one summer, ONE, summer, when I was young and indestructable. One other thing 5 o'clock was quitting time because you knew the rain er I mean down pour would be there right on time, just like the day before. It would actually rain lightning there as well...Oh and I was expecting a cool down after the rain had past, NOT. It would turn into some kind of sauna because of the humidity build up after the rain.... Yeah its hot today but spend one summer in Fla.then you will know it really isn't that bad at all.

We got a new dog today, she is a rescue. So drive from Toledo to Cincinnati and then back. Long drive but I already feel she was worth it. Will relax a bit tonight with some revolution brewing a little crazy Belgian ipa.

Neither the wife or I have ever had a rescue before so it will be something new. We are truly hoping she is a good fit with our kids and other dog. Early signs are positive, a possessive eating thing to work through but I have heard and read that is a common thing with rescues.

4 weeks ago exactly, its a female Pit Bull we named her Lucy and I want to say it is so true about Pit Bulls the breed is way way nicer than I thought it might be. We instantly fell in love with that dog and let me tell you she has a motor on her she does not quit, EVER. But is so well behaved it will stay in the front room when we go to the dinner table. I could go on and on and usually do but it's getting late but take my word this dog is awesome. Oh and I know that dog would be a real problem if it were aggressive, its not it just is not. I would trust that dog in a room full of kids she just loves attention and you could sit on its head and it would not even take it personal, fantasic dog, smarter than me and we could not be happier. .

A couple homebrews here or there today while I've been filling kegs and brewing a saison. I may end up going for a run later, but this heat may get me to decide otherwise.

I managed to get exercise out of the way this morning - 4 miles of walk where you could feel the temperature go up with each step. That was followed by some yardwork and a few general errands, not the least of which was running about two closets of clothes to the Taylor Salvation Army, where I was - in the words of the dude manning the dock - the first person he had seen all day.

I am by myself tonight, so I am actually sitting on the porch keeping an ear out for dinner. Tomorrow I will be grilling, but tonight, on a 90+ degree day, I naturally went with a casserole. I realized this mistake when I heated up the oven and am currently cooling down outside with a pop.

I did 2 miles this morning, and I'll do about 2.5 more in a couple hours, after this heat breaks.

92-94 here in Adrian. I haven't left the house with the exception of getting groceries and a pizza. Going very basic tonight with Labatts Blue.
