Wyatt Davis, and Shaun Wade are opting to play for OSU, and Michigan will have 6 captains 2 on offense 4 on defense.

Kwity Paye

Aiden Hutchinson

Carlo Kemp

Josh Ross / not sure who the offensive captains are. Could be Milton and Ronnie Bell / or Chris Evans

I obviously am not tuned into UM football as the rest of you guys, but are any of those captains really a surprise? I feel like those are names I would expect to see as captains.

You couldn't sum up 2020 any better than telling me that OSU's 1st round picks would opt in while our players who don't have that high of a draft grade aside from Nico leave early. Albeit, health issues are in play for Ambry, but still....

With Fields and a 10 deep OL they have a shot @ a national championship. Everyone on that team is still steaming from not getting it done against Clemson last year. Their QB is more hype than talent.he still makes freshman mistakes. This roster may be their best ever.

So ... if Michigan loses it's because the players are OK getting embarrassed? I'm trying to follow your reasoning.

Here's something you might want to consider: During the Hoke and Rodriguez era the yearly random OSU letdown / flake-out week (secondary to a large perceived gap between OSU and its opponent) was a little more likely with Michigan teams than it has been during the Harbaugh years. I'm *not* excusing the losses ... just suggesting that there are multiple reasons.

If Michigan loses?  The last 2 years they've gotten destroyed in laughable fashion.

So yes, in my opinion, when you get bent over like that, you would think they would spend every single day after that game vowing never to let that happen again.

Then they let the exact same thing happen the following year on their own field?  I would call that being ok with it.  Reach down deep, find something, beat your man.

I'm saying a team with the talent Michigan has should beat another college football team more than 1 time in 16 FUCKING years.  Especially when that team is your biggest rival.  I don't want to hear we get their best shot every year horseshit.  They should be getting our best shot every year too.  We obviously don't care as much as they do, and it shows.  We are not a high school team playing a college team.  The NFL is peppered with players from this program

Auburn figures out how to beat Alabama every now and then.  Is that really too much to ask?  Expectations aren't high, how about to start you just don't get fisted for 4 quarters?

Just my opinion, you should be able to not give up 60 pts strictly with pride.

First off Devin Gardner was the man. If he played for Harbaugh I firmly believe we would have beaten OSU.

I don't think OSU never took Hoke and RichRod seriously. (Yes, I remember technically Hoke beat OSU). Nor Harbaugh in the beginning. Until we started steamrolling everyone on the way to the 62-39 embarrassment. We never got their best game until that game.

I mean, there were several games with Hoke and RichRod where OSU could have named the score. It was never in doubt, and you could see it on their faces.

Karsh is the only reliable inside source at 97.1 to anything Michigan football related.  Unless he says it, I don't buy it.  Valenti and his gaggle of jagaloons have one thing on their mind - ignite the bruhs, facts be damned.

Of course Davis and Wade are opting in.  Say what you will about Ohio State, they do foster a culture of staying with the team.  For whatever reason that has eluded Michigan for a long time, and no a famous speech by Bo doesn't count as counter-evidence to this.

I am not passing judgment on anyone choosing to sit out for any reason, I don't care, nor do I think it reflects anything negative about the player himself as I think everyone makes the best decision for him or herself at the end of the day according to available information.  I am just saying it would be nice if the coaches to could figure out the secret to the culture Ohio State has and bring a little bit of that to Michigan in terms of getting players to buy in a little bit.

This is all conjecture.

The only fact is that Gene Smith said that Wyatt Davis called him.

If you want true conjecture, why would Davis call Gene Smith and not his positional coach or Ryan Day?

To me, the only reason would be eligibility question which is either due to him taking money from an agent or by dropping from all enrolled classes.

I'm sure part of the secret is having something to play for. I'm sure Buckeye players are aware that they have an extremely high chance at a conference championship, trip to the playoffs, and a good shot at a national title every year.

Michigan's players are playing for what? Maybe an NY6 appearance, which is nothing more than a more glorified version of the rest of consolation bowls so of course Michigan's players are going to be more inclined to come to the conclusion that it's not worth playing.

They want a shot at the Championship.  They have a legit shot and I respect their kids for wanting to go for it.  I would expect the exact same from M if they were in that situation.

If they lose a game or two = as soon as they are out of contention, you will see everyone draft-eligible on the team going the Bosa route and opting out to rehab for the draft.
