Don't use "MAC AD" as a stereotype.  Anyone remotely competent would be an "upgrade from David Brandon."

The best person for the job may be Heeke and it may not.  I am more concerned with the new AD's ability to find the right football coach.   After Hall of Fame coach Herb Deromedi left, he was smart enough to hire Brian Kelly and Butch Jones.  That makes him a fuck of a lot smarter than David Brandon.

The topic directly below this quotes Schlissel as saying that no contact has been made with anybody.  Moreover, he hasn't organized a search and doesn't anticipate doing so for a few more weeks.

I have a feeling some pockets have been doing the reaching out that we've been hearing about.

Maybe they are starting by contacting AD's who already have a solid relationship built with Adidas. The biggest question is .. Does Jim Harbaugh approve of him???

Good to explore options, but lets be real, we arent going to bring in a MAC AD. Jim Hackett will most likely be the AD for 1-2 years so we have time to explore. Lets go for a bigger name AD, like Brad Bates. I just dont see a MAC AD taking over Michigan, thats all.

I really don't get people throwing out a crazy extended timetable. Microsoft had a protracted search for a CEO that took five months, Eric Schmitd was brought on more quickly than that and Tim Cook took about two weeks to install as CEO at Apple.

I know these aren't apples to apples (lol) comparisons because two were internal hires, but finding an exeuctive with experience in the field and with the qualifications needed shouldn't ever take a year or two.

Honest question...assuming we get a big name coach, do we really need a big name AD? Wouldn't we expect someone like a Harbaugh or similar to essentially run the athletic department? We already have a ton of administrators and bean counters to watch the budget and run the day-to-day...it seems kind of odd to pay a ton of money for a big name AD if (and that is a big IF) we have a big name coach.

Despite what others have said in this thread Heeke has been contacted and is on the short list of 5 to get the job as AD. Jim Phillips NW and Brad Bates are 1 and 1A. Jeff Long (Ark) then Warde Manuel (UConn) follow with Joe Castiglione (Okla) a long shot. Jim Pihillips is the current Chairman of Big Ten AD's with Rose Bowl Committee ties.

what to believe. Today, Dan Patrick on his radio show signed off his interview with Tony Dungy by saying the next HC of Michigan to which Dungy just laughed. He could have said "not interested" but he didn't.

Many rumors and very few facts.

Kelly and Jones? Both good finds, both seem to kind of be jerks tho. Kelly for obvious reasons, i coached with a guy who coached with Butch and he hated him.

Still tho, not afraid to hire the up and comer. Just pleeeease dont hire Chuck Martin!

That rag is just regurgitating a story first reported some days ago and is just now reporting it as 'news'!  Their news reporting is laughable at best.

Don't believe me?  Visit their website and see how far behind they are in actual news.

Michigan Arrogance

I doubt M goes for a MAC level guy - there are seemingly a half dozen ADs who may be solid candidates at Power 5 conferences.

But, the connections to M amoung the cadidates would be a good thing, IMO (as opposed to a football coach). The culture of the AD at M is something I would hope the next AD has experience with, in addition to outside experiences.

t was certianly ironic that DB, having been a player under Bo, a regent and well connected in the UM community seemed to have the least amount of understanding of what Michigan should represent. Perhaps he was TOO insular, having had no experience with ADs besides M. No persepective.

this has already been discussed in a thread a few days ago.  Heeke's ties to MSU are very very strong.  He has also had a number of "problems" under his helm including, but not limited to, the women's basketball program under Sue Gueverra.  Finally, and most importantly, the CMU program simply ain't that great.  I wouldn't be surprised if one of Heeke's guys isn't behind the sourcing.
