This would be so, so so, so cool....I know he's most likely going in the Top 5 of the NBA draft this year, but we can dream?
December 19th, 2013 at 8:06 PM ^
SO YOU'RE SAYING THERE'S A CHANCE
December 19th, 2013 at 8:09 PM ^
Holy shit. I would cry. He would probably be the highest regarded recruit to come to Michigan ever, of any sport.
December 19th, 2013 at 8:34 PM ^
That was deep, man. Thanks for your insight...
Would you care you freakin' enlighten us?

I guess what I was suggesting was who you believe were/are better signees?
December 19th, 2013 at 8:40 PM ^
Even more recently in basketball than the Fab Five, Jerod Ward was the #1 player in the 1994 class.

Ward tore the meniscus in his right knee in January of his freshman year and then suffered a torn ACL in his left knee in December of his sophomore year. He was still a pretty good college player, but the injuries prevented him from living up to his high school hype.
In the spirit of the "Where Are They Now" diary, Ward now works as a trainer somewhere in the 734 area code through his company called JW Pro Ball.

Daniel Horton?
#6 overall
December 19th, 2013 at 8:51 PM ^
Would any of those guys been the #1 overall draft pick out of highschool?
December 19th, 2013 at 9:05 PM ^
I would think.
December 19th, 2013 at 9:32 PM ^
Dante is good, no doubt about it. But I don't honestly think anyone has him going top 3 in the NBA draft. I would love to see a mock draft where it has him going as the first pick, or heck even in the top 3. Parker, Wiggins, Randle, and Smart are almost without a doubt going before him.
Besides those I mentioned above all of these guys will potentially go before Exum; Joel Embiid, Gary Harris, Aaron Gordon, Noah Vonleh, and Rodney Hood. This list doesn't even include a guy like Zach LaVine who could be a top 5 guy too. If any of these guys come up big in the NCAA tournament, think Bradley Beal, then they'll move up too. I highly doubt Exum goes even top 5.
This doesn't even get into the fact of how short you're selling Webber. As far as Michigan guys go.
December 20th, 2013 at 11:41 AM ^
CWebb would've.
December 19th, 2013 at 8:42 PM ^
Is this dude rated better then our ballers?
December 19th, 2013 at 8:53 PM ^
Many people are saying he will be either the first or second guy off the board if he enters the draft instead of doing the school thing.
December 19th, 2013 at 9:34 PM ^
He's good, but Michigan has had some really good recruits in the past. He's probably not even the top player in his class in he decides to go to college. He certainly won't be the top pick.

December 20th, 2013 at 9:10 AM ^
I just like the dude's name. Pretty bad-ass.
December 20th, 2013 at 9:23 AM ^
Sounds like he's perfectly suited for a series of Latin classes.
December 19th, 2013 at 8:09 PM ^
Is almost here. It has to be better and there is hope.
December 19th, 2013 at 8:46 PM ^
I was just about to say. If this actually happens, I'm sure it will be in 2014.
December 19th, 2013 at 8:10 PM ^
For those who don't know who the five are:
Dante Exum (@daanteee) told ESPN that he still intends to set up college visits to 5 finalists soon -- Indiana, UNC, UK, Michigan, Oregon.

I'm sure that Oregon is no slouch, but out of this list....one of these schools is not like the others.
December 20th, 2013 at 9:55 AM ^
You're right. Oregon's undefeated.
December 20th, 2013 at 10:11 AM ^
but I was referring to the fact that they're not a perennial basketball power. That's all.
December 20th, 2013 at 12:29 PM ^
To be fair, neither is Michigan.
December 19th, 2013 at 8:13 PM ^
December 19th, 2013 at 8:28 PM ^
maybe he'll only be a top 20 draft pick next year, then we obviously don't want him
December 19th, 2013 at 8:44 PM ^
but if he were a guaranteed top pick, why even waste time visiting colleges?
December 19th, 2013 at 10:33 PM ^
December 19th, 2013 at 9:36 PM ^
Darko was a top 5 pick to almost all NBA teams, so yes the NBA is always right.

December 19th, 2013 at 11:05 PM ^
Why was his situation so bad? I always thought that he had a good chance because he wouldn't be forced to play big minutes, could develop at a slower pace, and learn from a guy with a similar skill set (Sheed).
I do agree that the team's leaders later seemed unwilling to adapt or accept coaching (Rip, Sheed and even Prince).
December 20th, 2013 at 11:01 AM ^
I've always heard that Larry Brown basically ignored trying to develop him, and since Sheed was eating up any minutes for Darko, he never really got to progress.
And then he's thrown into the fire a few years later.
December 19th, 2013 at 11:11 PM ^
he barely got PT at Euro and wasn't super productive even on limited minutes. Dumars drafted him based on potential. Switch Pistons with any other teams, Darko would still be #2 overall pick.
Not sure how he was thrown into a bad situation. Darko was raw as hell and needed time for seasoning. He was a bust based on expectation, but if he was drafted at late 1st round, he would have been a decent contributor. He wasn't terrible but wasn't great either.

Getting Exum would be an insane pull. Yeah, he's probably going pro, but clearly he is considering the college experience if he's going to spend time visiting 5 colleges that are spread out throughout the country. Get it JB!
December 19th, 2013 at 8:32 PM ^
Can he play wide receiver?
(ducks)
December 20th, 2013 at 1:37 PM ^
I assume it's a penalty if he scores a TD then dunks the football over the uprights?

Here is a piece called "Getting To Know: Dante Exum" done by Basketball Australia, if anyone is interested:
December 19th, 2013 at 11:06 PM ^
If anyone actually watches him here, he says flat out that he's going to be a student athlete in the NCAA. I'd say we have a chance. Hopefully Bielein can keep the ship afloat this year, at least get through two rounds of the tournament...
