The QB situation 2022 - 2025
I got to do some catching up with a good friend in the recruiting department over the weekend. ;)
Short term JJ is fine, no one will say it, but the sense is it's going to be very hard to keep him off the field. I was told the players and the coaches are the first to know, reading into that I personally expect at worse JJ to split time this season, and be in the NFL in 2023 or 2024.
We feel great about CJ Carr coming, and apparently he's considering reclassifying... Which Michigan is playing down to anyone who asks, especially Dante Moore, whom spends a ton of time at the facility and chatting with the coaches, for someone who is supposedly leaning towards ND.
Some QB guru who works out of Wixom I believe, is pushing hard for Bellville QB Isaiah to come to Michigan. The QB coach is also coaching the top 2025 QB on our big board, PEP Hamilton son.
JJ>DM>CJC>Zeke>BabyPEP
Cheers
JJ being in the NFL in 2023 after splitting time in 2022 will be quite a feat. If so, the implication being the person he's splitting time with (CM) is also NFL caliber?
JJ is not eligible for the 2023 draft so that is off the table.
2024 is the first draft where he can declare; however, I think that unless he really bulks up min the next two years, he is more likely to go in 2025.
I don't see why he would need to bulk. He already has an NFL arm and great mobility
Right that’s not holding him back. Whatever weight will come, that cannon he has is the strength that will get him drafted early.
You forgot the Davis Warren era
Central Michigan is going to love that kid.

CMU is going to love Cade.
How could JJ be in the NFL in 2023? I thought he was a true freshman last year, which would mean we'd at least get him (barring transfer) until the 2023 season and then at the earliest he'd go in the 2024 NFL draft.
Maybe I'm wrong though.
You are correct. I assume the poster meant in the NFL after the 2023 season
Sounds a little too sunshine and rainbows to me but I hope you're right!
Who is this Dante Moore and CJ Carr you speak of? Do you mean DM and CC?
I tease. I like info.
Will CJ's decision to reclassify hinge on Moore's decision?
EDIT: IGNORE me, nothing to see here. I thought I read all the comments already but now see someone asked this above.
Doesn't JJ have to play three years in college, making him not eligible to be in the NFL until 2024?
I initially read the ending as comparisons and not arrows. I thought you were saying its all downhill once JJ graduates.
But why would we want CJ to reclassify if you get Dante? Spread them out as much as possible.
Also are you talking about Isaiah Marshall? 2024 at Southfield? And Pep Jr is higher than Montgomery, Underwood and Saunders? Cause those are the only 2025s with offers on 247.
So you'd be looking at something like this:
2022: 1. Cade/JJ 3. Warren 4. Orji 5. Denegal
2023: 1. JJ 2. Warren/Dante 4. Orji/Denegal
2024: 1. Moore 2. Orji/Denegal 4. Carr
2025: 1. Moore 2. Carr 3. Orji/Denegal
2026: 1. Carr
I don't think Michigan has any say in whether Carr reclassifies and might prefer he doesn't for the reason you mentioned but if he wants to be draft eligible a year earlier, that's why he'd do it.
On the other hand, if you can get a kid in and get him working earlier, you can make him better earlier. If you think you can keep recruiting at a high level, you'd rather have him (and everyone you recruit) more experienced sooner, assuming it'll be next one up.
Not Michigan's decision obviously, but trying to nudge him that way sure seems dependent on whether they get Dante.
Potential to be like the ‘90s QBU era of Grbac/Collins/Dreisbach/Griese/Brady.
Harbaugh/Brown/Taylor/Grbac/Collins/Dreisbach/Griese/Brady/Henson/Navarre/Henne was a hell of a stretch that just happened to match up to dominating Ohio State.
That was followed up by; Threet/Sheridan/Forcier/Robinson/Gardner/Rudock/Speight/O'Korne/Peters/Patterson/Milton/McNamara
One quibble: Henne was 0-4 against OSU so he really should be in your second list
I believe they would want Carr to reclassify if we didn’t get Dante Moore since he’s no longer a sure thing with Notre Dame pushing strong.
I hope your source's optimism on Dante Moore is warranted, since that recruitment has not sounded good at all
Hear! Hear!
The negativity in that one reads a lot more like nitpicking to me. Naturally a longtime high profile recruitment with frequent updates is going to dig into more of the little things and that seems like what's happening here.
Harbaugh offered him in middle school and they've gotten him on campus a ton. Ultimately might not get him but this doesn't read to me like the staff blowing it; they've done a lot of good stuff there too.
This seems a lot like how the Donovan Edwards and Will Johnson recruitments went. 5 star Detroit area kids. Some rumblings in the early going that it’s not a slam dunk for us and that OSU MIGHT be ahead. People had started writing off Johnson and Edwards to OSU when that chatter came out and they both ended up still committing to us a few months after our worst season since 2014. The optimism & chatter for those two seemed like the classic short term momentum a team might get after a visit. Here’s hoping it’s the same for the Moore/ND rumors and his recruitment ends similarly to the aforementioned!
I hope you're right but we have Mike Weber as a counterpoint
Mike Weber is not comparable at all. He was committed to Hoke and then decommitted after that awful 2014 season when the writing was on the wall about Hoke’s future. Harbaugh was trying to sign him a month after he took the job at Michigan. The fact we covered enough ground to have a shot at flipping him on signing day was amazing.
A pat on the back for that one. However, he did not hurt us as bad as lots of other recruits that we actually did land. Still, a Downer like Debbie but he wasn’t H2!!!
Steve Lorenz and Sam Webb were saying on the Recruiting Insider that Notre Dame staff was doing some pretty cringey shit on Moore's official visit that Michigan staff would never do in Ann Arbor. They had a literal red carpet event and invited all the recruiting analysts and had like a waffle party because that's his favorite food. Kid seems to be into that stuff. They said our best shot is if we get Harbaugh to lead the recruitment which I'm not sure why he wasn't from the beginning
Who doesn't like waffles? Belgian waffles. Blueberry waffles. Waffles with syrup. Waffle sandwiches. Chicken and waffles...
Let's just hope he goes Blue and doesn't waffle in his commitment.

It’s enough to make a kid waffle.
But no "initial" optimism?
Would love to get BabyPEP and for him to be awesome.
Would be beautiful to shut up the Pep Hamilton Slander Association faction of the fanbase.
Lol why/how would his son being talented make people forget that Pep is a terrible coach?
The Mgoblogarati ran him out of town but it's all sunshine and rainbows now and you get the negs.
Someone learned not to do those crazy shorthand initials for every human mentioned, thank you! lol
Did you read the last line?
Who the hell is ND? These acronyms are confusing!

North Dakota is in play.
I have not seen as much of CJ as I have Dante (coaching on the Eastside main reason). I actually coached against Dante in the 2020 playoffs and man…he is the absolute real deal. Like Quinn Ewers NIL money type real deal
Last time I saw Moore in person was Cass @ King 2021. Moore made touch throws and put bombs on the money. Definitely is a pocket passer, but they will call a QB draw with him. Passed for 365 yds. and 5 TDs.
He ran an RPO for a touchdown vs us as a sophomore in HS that a majority of Power 5 QBs couldn’t make. The speed he was able to read, pull, and rifle a slant on the money in stride was “tip the cat” worthy.
Like Quinn Ewers NIL money type real deal
But that mullett... Dude's got a million-dollar arm and a five-cent haircut.
I hope
Not sure I’d be in a big hurry to go get the Belleville kid. Seems to be a big wash-out rate from kids from that school.
Think I'd want a bigger sample--and a statement about your criteria--before I accepted this take about the athletes at an entire school.
I hope we don't recruit any QB's named Tait.... they don't stick around long
Hard to imagine getting both Moore and Carr. I think I’d be fine with either one. Just would need Carr to reclassify in order to have a year of overlap with JJ.

Look at all these chickens in this basket of eggs!
The players always know who the starter is it is always obvious after a handful of practices. I love Cade but think JJ is going to keep seeing more and more time as the season wears on and could be starting by the second half of the season
