The Good (CBs for Michigan)
- 2024 OT Luke Hamilton
- 2024 TE Brady Prieskorn
- 2024 CB Jalen Todd
- 2024 QB Jaydn Davis (already posted of course)

The Bad (CBs for not Michigan)
- 2023 OT DJ Chester to LSU
- 2024 WR Ryan Wingo to Tenn

Among the visitors for the MSU game 2024 recruiting looks to be going quite well - with the possible exception of Ryan Wingo, which wouldn't be a huge surprise imo given NIL and Michigan's style of offense.

I understand the start to 2023 recruiting, but it does baffle me that we have not had signs of a strong close given our season and how it has played out.

2024 really needs to be very, very strong, and it looks like it will be.

The coaching carousel and Harbaugh to the NFL stuff really did hurt us.

Fighting the upfront money will always be a tough sell, but theres always been upfront money to compete with. Do you really want guys who are just motivated by the highest bidder anyways? I think we all know the type of players Harbaugh wants, and its not those who just want to make the most money without playing a down.

Lets hope we keep most of our Major coaches this offseason.

I'm tired of acting like "well they just wanted money" is some kind of moral failing. Guess what? People change jobs to get more money all the time! I'd be surprised if most of the adults on this board haven't changed jobs for more money at least once in their lives. I know I have.

Especially when a lot of these athletes don't come from means. There are a ton of college football players who have parents who can't work or working minimum wage or in jail and as such are the primary breadwinners for their family. Turning down money now because of a sales pitch that "we can get you into the NFL better" or "Well our culture is better" or "It shouldn't BE about the money" is not exactly persuasive to a lot of 17 year olds, nor should it be. Especially because, while Michigan certainly gets people into the NFL, it's not like we're miles better than any other top programs.

count me skeptical. im pretty confident that the 'play for the game, not for money' crowd is a bunch of people who would be happier if these kids didnt get any money because 'a scholarship is reward enough'.

and citing A&M as proof that money doesnt help in the win department is cherry picking. OSU and the SEC beg to differ

I understand the concern re: 2023 recruiting.

I'd be willing to bet however, that if Michigan continues to perform well on the field - and we see more stumbles from ND, MSU and PSU - recruits will re-think their choices...and those who have strong Midwest ties will certainly look to Michigan as a landing spot.

Do you recall offhand when Derrick Moore, Darius Clemons, Amorion Walker, Mason Graham or Kenneth Grant committed for '22?

It's possible Graham was committed before Nov. 1 '21, but the rest positively were not.

The '23 class is not complete on Nov. 1 2022. Jus sayin...🤷‍♂️

I still think we get some surprise names to close out the 2023 class.  Last year we landed a whole bunch of guys that no one saw coming at this point in the season.  Some of these other programs are going to have bad seasons or fire coaches and kids will look around and end up on our radar.

Long way to go on Wingo.

Chester would be a much better fit for the culture under Harbaugh than Kelly, but a difficult pull from the South. Maturation sometimes makes geography less important to a man than culture. I'm probably >50% optimistic that Moore can persuade him.

Forget NIL with regards to Wingo - he just came & watched M run it down the throats of one of the weakest pass defenses in the ncaa. The opportunities to block were endless for a WR. Very alluring.

Now watch Tennessee play their video game type offense. Even if upfront NIL was relatively similar (which it certainly is not) dude's gonna go be a WR at Tennessee!

His post-game comments were so polite yet disinterested it spoke well of his upbringing. Like a super hot person declining to dance with kindness rather than scorn.

The McDonald to osu is a bummer as UM has been on him all summer OsU comes in last second and gets it down…deflating.   I also wondered how the recruits at the game would respond to the tunnel stuff.

Where did you get the impression that OSU came in "last second?"

It appears that Michigan was just a hat on the table. (They likely knew this.)

This is just one article, but there's nothing about Michigan ever being the favorite or Ohio State rushing in at the end:

McDonald had taken multiple trips to UM…he didn’t visit osu until late in the process from what I’ve read is they weren’t on him until some of the first options fell through he was a Clemson lean from what was reported osu wasn’t really a threat…I didn’t even rallies SI was a thing anymore.

It would be a tough sell to look at Tennessee's offense and look at Michigan's offense and decide to come to UM if you are a WR. I am happy with our offense because it's very effective and seems to exploit things that most other schools aren't doing, but I think we will have to accept that top end WRs aren't going to like it. I wouldn't be shocked if some of Michigan's younger receivers consider leaving after this year.

Hello recruits. We are the number four team in the nation. We send the fifth most players to the NFL of any college program. We made the College Football Playoff last year. Our coach did not leave for the NFL.

I would guess around 10 actually left for 2023.  Sounds like All will return for a post-surgery year so that is one less than whatever the actual number was.

As for additions…

M is probably looking at 2-3 more OL if they can find than many that are good enough and want to Commit - Fano, Lomu, and that kid committed to TTU are probably the best chances.

I would expect as many as 2 more DL - looks like we might flip the kid from Wisky and that pursuit probably indicated what we thought our chances were with now OSU commit McDonald.

CBs - probably 2 minimum - The kid from Illinois is the only “plan A” left on the board and is coming back for (I assume) the game vs. the Illini.  There also was a kid committed to UF that we were trying to flip earlier in the process.

LB — I think they REALLY want another LB in the class but the options - even including possible flip targets - are not strong at all.

WR - I think they want at least 1 more, plus Nic Harbor if he wants to start at WR.

Otherwise Do not really need any more RB, Safety, DE or TE help but I am sure M will keep alert for any gems they might flip later in the process - there is a (near 5-star) safety pledged to ND, the WR currently going to LSU, maybe that 5* OL decides not to go to Iowa after all etc.

PS - I clearly do not think the sky is falling..
