Peak Frames Janklin

With :56 to go in the first half of the Cotton Bowl, Penn St. has a run to the 5 yard line. James Franklin immediately calls timeout, despite the fact that he has 2 timeouts and at most 2 more plays since it is now 3rd and goal. Next play is a Penn St. touchdown.

Now Memphis has time to drive for a half ending field goal. They have a 51 yard attempt with 8 seconds left, and James Franklin uses his other timeout to ice the kicker. Memphis runs another play to get 8 more yards, and makes the shorter field goal.

Franklin has to be the worst time management coach of all time.

If it got us the same results, sure. It's not like I'm in love with Harbaugh or something. Franklin is somewhat lame, but he's not out covering up rapists like MSU or otherwise fucking over his players.

Harbaugh's job is to win as many games as possible without making the school look bad. Franklin appears able to do a slightly better job of the former, while being no worse at the latter.

I just think the program as a whole hits a full on mental block when it plays OSU. Everyone else on the schedule, that’s a game they know they can win. And they’ve proven they can beat anyone else on their schedule at least every other year. But OSU is where you see Michigan make so many careless, sloppy mistakes, where they play tight, commit turnovers, etc.

How you fix that, I have no clue. That’s what getting beat down for two decades straight will do to you.

Tell me about it.  They are up 15 points with a chance to keep it that way into halftime.  I am going to lose my PSU -7 bet mostly because Franklin is a complete moron.

I don't like Franklin. But they will probably get an 11 win season. They'll have more to sell than Michigan.

Eh whatever.

I know it gives a lot us the warm and fuzzies to bag on Franklin, but he's won the Big Ten and beaten OSU, shit ton more than we can say about our guy.

At some point, I just wish our program would do something, rather than getting good feels by ripping on other people that have actually done shit.

Gonna quote the all time win percentage too?

We all make fun of Franklin; he had THREE years of head coaching experience before taking over an absolute train wreck of a program, still recovering from one of the most historic scandals in football history.

Harbaugh was crowned champion of all coaches before even stepping foot in Ann Arbor.

I know it bothers a lot of people; a lot of people can't accept that Franklin has accomplished more than our hero.

NCAA sanctions didn’t do shit and O’Brien had more wins in his two years at PSU than Hoke did in his last 2 years before Harbaugh. The sanctions didn’t mean Franklin took over some shit program. They were in a better position than us despite the fact that they had sanctions because the fan base didn’t give a shit about anything but the football team.

At this point, I would trade Harbaugh for Franklin straight up. He's a douche but lovable if he's your coach

I get that Franklin is a douche and frequently makes terrible game management decisions, and I have no desire to trade him for Harbaugh, but all this criticism of a guy who's gone 42-11 over the past four years with two bowl victories and a conference title under his belt seems sort of ridiculous.

In that same time span, we're 37-14, no conf titles, and three bowl losses (and counting).

That's all we got anymore. Michigan has nothing to hang their hat on in terms of accomplishing anything, so our fans try to pick on the lowest hanging fruit to boost our pride.

The problem is... That low hanging fruit (Franklin) keeps winning and has done things on the biggest stage, and has brought an absolute dead program back to quality.

Yet another MGoBlog thread where the trolls and the ninnies are indistinguishable.

The program deserves a much better fanbase.
