OT: Worst Free Throw Attempt Ever
Light day on the board, so I figured this is worth a post.
In case I failed at the video post:

Edit: Fail indeed. See LSAClassOf2000's post below for the video.

I've seen badly airballed free throws before, but I've never seen a free throw that landed further from the basket than most blindfolded half-court halftime contest shots.

...as the player did not work for me, and in the event it is problematice for others. I think he could have salvaged this by calling, "200, dead!" and just pretended that he meant to do it:

thanks

Goooood Lord.

Almost looks intentional, though I wouldn't know why. Right? I mean, surely no real basketball player could fail that badly... right?

WOAT just doesn't have the same zing to it that GOAT has

GOOOOD LORD

The best part of that clip is the announcers. If this were a big-time college bball game, the announcers would have said something like "I'm not quite sure what happened there; a little short of the mark". These guys tell you what they're thinking.

I think Gary Danielson is the only guy who covers major college sports and will still say something critical (Spielman will too, but he does it more in general). He'll go after someone who messes up.
December 10th, 2012 at 4:45 PM ^
Yes, but Gary Danielson is also a raging asshat
December 11th, 2012 at 11:47 AM ^
Or is a raging asshat a Danielson?
I'll let you decide.

"I'm not quite sure what happened there; a little short of the mark".

Someone has obviously been working on not line-driving his free throws.
December 10th, 2012 at 2:16 PM ^
Alright, who switched the medicine ball w/ the game ball again?!
p.s. That has so much gif potential.

Here's footage of his high school coach, from a recent Gonzaga game. (Actually a half-court contest W.O.A.T. candidate.)

Definitely hit his chin on the way out

It looks like the narrator lives in the basement of his parent's house. NTTAWWT

I can't believe I go to the same school as that guy. I am disappointed.

They have banners and such all over the student union with the score of that game. I have to be reminded on a daily basis. I still wear my Michigan apparel with pride though.

You've infiltrated their den and not set fire to the things yet? What's wrong with you?

Subvert their society one jersey at a time!

I once airballed a free-throw in a HS Freshman ball game. We were up by 2 and I was fouled with, say, 2.3 seconds left; we were in the bonus. I missed the first aforementioned free-throw. Straight Air Ball. They then proceeded to in-bound the ball, us in 3/4 full court press. Their PG dribbled up the sideline and about 15 feet from halfcourt chucked up a prayer that banked off the glass and went in. We Lose.
Moral of the story...It would have been better if I pulled off the shot above as everyone would have been laughing their asses off at me and their Hail Mary shot probably doesn't happen becasue they'd be wondering WTF they just witnessed.
December 10th, 2012 at 3:47 PM ^
WHAT! Is that possible?
December 10th, 2012 at 4:12 PM ^
I love the reaction of the PG...just stands there for a bit with his hands down.
You would think this is a joke, sadly it is not.
December 10th, 2012 at 5:04 PM ^
I don't think he was doing it right...
December 10th, 2012 at 5:09 PM ^
Announcers are the best.

At least I see an App State team and am finally able to laugh now. It only took 5 years, but hey, that's progress.
December 10th, 2012 at 7:52 PM ^
Like we have any business making fun off App State for anything.
December 10th, 2012 at 5:25 PM ^
And here is the best set of free throws:
I so want the underhand FT to make a comeback.
December 10th, 2012 at 6:42 PM ^
I didnt know Shaq came back to play for App State.

Is it illegal to suck at shooting free throws?
December 11th, 2012 at 11:12 AM ^
It has to hit the rim or backboard to be a live ball.
