OT - Wisconsin equivalent of MHSAA takes Participation Medal a step further, bans innocuous chants

Submitted by FormAFarkingWall on

The Post-Crescent in Appleton, Wis., obtained an email sent from WIAA director of communications Todd Clark to member schools in December, describing what should be considered taunting and disrespectful actions that are unacceptable, including “you can’t do that,” “fundamentals,” “air ball,” “there’s a net there,” “sieve,” “we can’t hear you,” “scoreboard,” and “season’s over.”

I guess dead silence is what they are looking for, or perhaps an increase in FT percentage.  Fortunately MHSAA has no plans to follow suit.

Or worse, Dassey ending up in prison. "Well, he confessed," disregarding how it is well known that people make false confessions under duress and intense questioning, particularly if they are young. How the authorities can live with their guilt is beyond me.

They should stop chants and yelling at softball games. My gosh those people are annoying. You hear screaming and yelling and think it was a grand slam but walk over to see and it was a walk to the 7th hitter with 2 outs. I told my girls you can play but I ain't coming.

There's a pretty big difference between not going to all their games and not going to any because their teammates cheer too loudly when someone gets on base. One of those things is the function of being an adult with responsibilities that keep you away from time to time, the other is just being a borderline shitty parent.
And for the record, my kids are too young right now, but participation trophies are definitely not going to be celebrated in our house.

Next thing they'll stop keeping score. And on that note, I'd love to hear from some of you phys ed teachers out there about "non-competitive" games in grade school. What is the point of that?

As long as this means that you can recreate the Miller Lite commercial "parody" that the Bleacher Creatures at the old Tiger Stadium made famous, the one where one side of the bleachers chants "eat shit" and the other side chants "fuck you", I suppose I could live with such a rule.

In all seriousness, this is a really stupid move indeed by the WIAA.

so WIAA suspended a female volleyball player for 5 games for tweeting for them to "eat s***"

Also, acceptable chants now include:

  • Nice try!
  • Better luck next time!
  • Good game, mister!
  • You can't win 'em all!
  • Never give up!
  • Stop by later for your participation medal!
  • Your mother is a swell person!
  • We enjoyed playing you!
  • This was fun, let's do it again!
  • Be Mine!
  • Hakuna matata!
